Tighes Hill Public School Newsletter No. 16
Principal’s Report
Congratulations to the following students, Shannon, Y5; Jemima, Y2; Jaydel, K; David, Y1; Phoenix, K; Isabella, Y3; who received awards at the CEP Aboriginal Recognition Assembly at Jesmond senior campus last Thursday. You were fabulous ambassadors for Tighes Hill Public School. Well done to you all!
Welcome back to term 4 everyone! We have just one term re-maining of the school year, and the focus for all teachers and children is on consolidating semester 1 outcomes in all Key Learning Areas building on to achieve semester 2 outcomes. The Term 4 calendar included in this newsletter is filling up fast.
Thank you to the P&C for the wonderful new piano located in the lower hall. The students love it!!! A special mention to Sarah Nash for planning, organising and delivery on this project – you’re a star!!
At the end of last term both Miss Beker and Miss Robinson got married. We wish both of them a lifetime of happiness. Miss Beker will now be known as Mrs Derricott and from next year Miss Robinson will be known as Mrs Bath. Congratulations to you both.
I want to congratulate all the children for the very settled way that they returned to school last week. They looked very smart and tidy in their uniforms. Please help us to keep children in school uniform – don’t forget to wear your school hats.
Selective HS Test 2016

P& C
The next P&C meeting will be held on the 19th of October at
6.00pm. Please come along. We are still looking for a parent/s
interested in volunteering for our canteen to help to share the
load in providing a wonderful healthy service for the children.
Please think about supporting our school through the many jobs
that P&C and canteen offer.
Kindergarten Orientation
Invitation letters have been sent out to all the enrolled kindergar-ten 2016 children and their families to attend our Kindergarten orientation program. Dates for this program are planned for early November to maximize attendance. If you know of any family that may have not yet let the school know of their intention to en-rol please encourage them to contact school so that they can participate in these sessions. Our numbers for 2016 are tight and we would love to know well in advance so class placement and staff needs for a smooth start to 2016.
Captains 2016
Year 5 children will begin participating in a leadership program in preparation for the upcoming 2016 Captains and Vice-Captain Elections in week 5. During the leadership program Y 5 children will be able to nominate/ be nominated for the first round candi-dates. They will then as a group, vote for the final 6 students. These 6 children can then begin to campaign and prepare their speeches that will be delivered before parents and the whole school on Thursday 26/11/2015. K to Y5 will then vote for the boy and girl Captain while the other 4 children will become Vice- Captains. This process enables all Y5 children to identify leader-ship skill and attributes, that they each possess and gives them confidence and ownership of the process of electing captains.
Swimming School
Swimming school will begin on Monday 26/10/2015 and will con-
tinue for two weeks. The weather will warm up and I know that
the children will enjoy acquiring vital water safety skills. Again
hats and sun-screen is a must as the walk to and from the pool is
in full sun for most of the way.
Enrolments for 2016
To enable us to correctly estimate enrolments and staff the school appropriately for 2016, I need all parents enrolling new children K-6 to complete enrolment forms and leave their details at the office ASAP. Please let me know of any neighbours and friends, who may not have children already at this school but will have school age children for 2016, we can then contact them and include them on our numbers for next year. Thank you to all the parents who are promoting our school in such a positive way and encouraging all local families to enrol in their local school.
