Reservations: (510) 848-7373.TILDEN NATURE AREA This 740-acre preserve with 10+ miles of hiking trails contains a blend of na-tive and introduced plant communities, including oak/bay woodlands, grasslands, and eucalyptus forests. A 750-foot boardwalk leads to Jewel Lake, a historic reservoir and a peaceful place to watch wildlife. At the Environmental Education Center (EEC) you can explore Wildcat Creek watershed exhibits, learn about park activities, and purchase nature-related books and materials including a self-guided trail booklet. The EEC is open Tues-Sun, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The nearby Little Farm (8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. daily) is home to farm animals, including cows, sheep, goats, rabbits, chickens, and pigs. Several heritage breeds are preserved, including Milking Shorthorn Cattle. Visitors are welcome to bring lettuce or celery to feed the animals. Park naturalists offer interpretive programs about the area’s natural and cultural history for schools, organized groups, and the public. SAFETY and ETIQUETTE• Stay on trails. Taking shortcuts can be dangerous and causes erosion. • Wading and/or swimming in undesignated areas may be dangerous and may harm the watershed.• Carry and drink plenty of water. Dehydration is a leading cause of injuries on the trail. • Be prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions. • Trails can be slippery, rocky and steep. Proceed carefully at your own risk.• Wildlife may be present on the trails at any time. Feeding or approaching wildlife is dangerous and illegal.
• Bicycles are permitted on designated trails only. Horses have the right-of-way on trails.• State law requires that all bicyclists under age 18 wear an approved helmet while riding on trails and roadways. All bicyclists and equestrians are strongly encouraged to wear helmets at all times. RULES• Dogs must be leashed 200 feet from any trail or park entrance. Dogs must be leashed in parking lots, picnic areas, developed areas such as lawns and play fields, and on some trails. They must be under voice control at all times.• Smoking is prohibited, except in overnight campsites.• Drones are prohibited.Visitors are responsible for knowing and complying with park rules.
