IP based security systems provide higher image quality than DVRs, asa network video recorder (NVR) does not need to compress incomingvideo sources (as this is supplied by the cameras). However this func-tion alone will not fulfill the end users’ expectation.

Most NVR systems do not support automatic device searching and service connection so they remain a burden to users requiringmanual initialisation even once appropriate network settings are completed. This complexity is further compounded with multipleconnections of cameras, recorders, integrated audio and alarm devices and often results in installation difficulties.

In allowing a cascadable and hierarchical connection structure be-tween cameras and NVRs, users can select the easiest and most costeffective way of cabling for their specific application. DirectIP™ so-lutions inherently use less cabling and leverage PoE so that PoE cam-eras and devices do not need external power cables.
