WEEKLY NEWSLETTER AND MENU March 6—March 10, 2017
Message from Mr. Ciochina
Greetings Timothy Ball Families, ISTEP+: We are through the majority of our testing for our first ISTEP+ window of the spring. It was a great week and I appreciate everyone’s cooperation to make this a smooth experience for our students. I am so proud of the way our students handled this busy and important time. Attendance: Our student attendance has been spectacular this week. Regular school attendance is a positive contributing factor to a child’s success in school and in life. Our attendance rate for this week was 97%. Thank you for making your child’s attendance at school a priority and for limiting voluntary absences as much as possible! Looking ahead: The dates for the IREAD-3 assessment for 3rd grade students are March 13—17. The window of days we have to give this assessment is very short, so attendance for 3rd graders these days is crucial. Thank you for planning ahead.
With the busy week, we were still able to fit in some fun! Kindergarteners read and enjoyed Dr. Seuss Day and also fifth grade/first grade loved “buddies” time in the gym being Fit For Life!
Have a great week!

café: Please do not treat other students to food items during your

only your student. We love having you in to share a great lunch at
Tball…..we just ask that you do it safely!

food make sure it is in a thermos.

Maloney at 662-6480. This is a great way to earn a little extra cash
and be home with your children in the morning & afternoon.
School Breakfast FAST FACT Students who eat breakfast have better attention and
memory. School breakfast is healthy, & convenient. Students who
participate in school breakfast show improved attendance, behav-
ior, standardized test scores as well as decreased tardi-
ness. Students who eat school breakfast attend, on average, 1.5
more days of school per year and score 17.5% higher on standard-
ized math tests.

Student Council Bottle Cap Collection
Timothy Ball Student Council is collecting bottle caps and plastic lids. We are hoping to get enough plastic to “purchase” two recycled benches from Green Tree Plastics, Inc. We need approximately 900lbs of plastic to get both benches. We will place one bench on each playground to be used as our “Buddy Bench”. The students know that if they do not have someone to play with at recess, they can sit on the “Buddy Bench” and a friend will come play with them. We wanted the students to feel like they were a part of the entire process, so we are beginning with collecting the caps. Below are the acceptable caps that we can collect. There are bins placed in different parts of the school for collection. Send in those lids, so we can start our journey towards our bench-es.

Thank you all for your donations towards this amazing cause that is near and dear to many of our hearts. I officially am mailing off our donations today. We still had money coming in as late as yesterday. Our total donation is $5656.98. Our goal was $3000, so the kids blew that out of the water!! Since they met their original goal, Mr. Ciochina is going to get attacked with silly string. Since they went beyond $4000, Mrs. Holding is going to get turned into a human sundae. We will “cash in” later in the year. Stay tuned for pictures from that fun day!!! Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!!!

Sick Day Guidelines:
Making the Right Call
When Your Child Is Sick:
Should I keep my child home or send him or her to school? School policy (and/or state law) requires a child to stay home if he or she:
Has a fever of 100.0° or higher
Has been vomiting or has diarrhea
Has symptoms that keep your child from participating in school, such as:
Very tired or lack of appetite
Cough that he or she cannot control, sneezing often
Headache, body aches, or earache
Sore Throat – a little sore throat is ok for school, but a bad sore throat
could be strep throat, even if there is no fever. Other signs of strep
throat, in children are a headache and upset stomach, or rash. Call your
doctor if your child has these signs. A special test is needed to know if
it is strep throat.
Keep your child home if he or she is coughing or sneezing often because this
spread the sickness to others.
24 Hour Rule
FEVER: Keep your child home until his or her FEVER has been gone WITHOUT
medicine for 24 hours. Colds can be contagious for at least 48 hours. Re-
turning to school too soon may slow recovery and make others sick.
VOMITING OR DIARRHEA: Keep your child home for 24 hours after the LAST
time he or she vomited or had diarrhea.
ANTIBIOTICS: Keep your child home until 24 hours after the FIRST dose of an-
tibiotics for anything like ear infection or strep throat.
We often have many children and adults with colds coming to school, and each one is
passing their sickness to others. Please help others from becoming sick by keeping
your child home during their illness.
