Year 4 Camp

What an outstanding camp! One of the things I love most aboutcamp is watching students outside the classroom environment.Tinana year 4 teachers provide wonderful opportunities forstudents to explore the outdoors, push themselves, andexperience group building activities outside the classroom. Ourteachers put a great deal of thought, effort and energy into thecamp and it paid off.

Our students represented our school well. Our group leadermade the comment that our group was her all-time favourite. She made special mention of our students’ fantasticcommunication skills, team spirit and exceptional manners. GoTinana!

Eisteddfod

I’ve said it before and I will continue to say it: thank you teachersfor allowing our students to participate.

From the time our students left the buses until the time theyboarded them again, they represented our school brilliantly.Thank you parents for making sure they were in uniform andlooked amazing. They handled themselves both on and offstage with pride. I looked at the photos on Facebook of one ofour grade three classes and they are all standing how they weretaught - what a team!!!

As for the standard, 3 of our 4 choirs scored higher than 90points out of 100. In all my years of doing choric speaking Ihaven’t had a choir score greater than 90. One of our classesscored 95. I am not sure I have enough words to explain howexceptional that is. I will certainly be writing to the author of ourpoems to thank her and share our success.

One student from year 4 spoke to me as he went on stage andtold me how nervous he was. After weeks of working on ourkeys to success, his class won first place. He was a part of thatsuccess and hopefully will be a more confident speaker withupcoming oral presentations at school. His story, and that ofmany others, is just part of the reason the effort we put in toEisteddfod is so worthwhile.

Thanks staff, students and parents for all the energy that hadgone into Eisteddfod- the results speak for themselves.

Conference

I am away at our annual State Chaplaincy Conference thisweek and have already learned a lot and have been challengedand inspired. Our chaplaincy service is sharpened from thisconference each year.

Have a great fortnight.

Studies have proven that music strengthens the brain andimproves memory, enhancing the performance of non-musicaltasks such as numeracy and literacy. Neuroscience hasdiscovered that playing an instrument causes both sides of thebrain to work together. As stated in the TED-Ed video ‘HowPlaying an Instrument Benefits your Brain – Anita Collins’:

“Playing music is the brain’s equivalent of a full body workout. The neuroscience saw multiple areas of the brain light up,simultaneously processing different information in intricateinterrelated and astonishingly fast sequences. Playing a musicalinstrument engages practically every area of the brain at once.”

Strengthening the brain by playing a musical instrument enablesthe brain to perform better at other academic and socialactivities. For a very educational five minute TED-Ed videoreferred to above please visit this below link:
