Principals Report Myall Creek Commemorations It was fabulous to watch our students perform at the Myall Creek Commemoration Service on Sunday 10th June. This was a valuable cultural dancing opportunity for our students. If you would like to view photographs from the day please take a look at our ‘Tinny Times’ Facebook page. If you would like a copy of any of the photos please contact the school. The Myall Creek Commemoration Service is a significant day in Australian history. It recognises the murder of Aboriginal men, women and children 180 years ago and the serious consequences for the people that undertook the massacre. The annual service held every year is an example of modern-day reconciliation and each year the number of people who attend this event grow. Netball A great day was held last Wednesday when our students (boys and girls) participated in the NSW Netball Schools Cup. One Years 3 and 4 team and two Years 5 and 6 teams were entered. Over the day everyone’s skills improved and all students commented on what a great day they had. I even received a lovely email, from a staff member from another school, commenting on the laughter, sportsmanship and enjoyment our students displayed throughout the day. PBL Focus- Being Aware of Other’s Personal Space Our PBL focus over the coming weeks is ‘being aware of others personal space’. Students are learning about why it is important not to move into someone else’s personal space without permission, as this is their own safety area. Everyone appreciates when their personal space is respected. Students who demonstrate this behaviour will be recognised. Reports and Parent interviews We will be holding parent teacher interviews on the afternoon of the Monday 2nd July from 3.10pm-4.40pm. At this interview you will be handed your child’s report. This is a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and assist in identifying semester two learning goals for your child. A note will come home shortly allowing you to indicate your preferred interview times. Athletics This year we will be joining with the Sapphire Small Schools for our annual school athletics carnival. This will be held next Friday 29th June at Varley Oval in Inverell. It would be great to see as many parents/carers, grandparents and family friends attend to cheer on our athletes. More information will be sent home shortly. Radford We will welcome back Radford College next week. We are sure they will enjoy their visit with us. I know our students as well as the students from Radford really look forward to this week. NAIDOC Week Tingha Public School will celebrate NAIDOC Week in Week 10 of this term. A note will come home closer to the time outlining the activities for the week. As always I am looking forward to another exciting fortnight at Tingha Public School. Melinda Partridge Principal

Spotlight on

5/6

Years 5/6 have been very busy this term with their learning. Also they have had

the opportunity to participate in many extra-curricular activities. In class the stu-

dents regularly use iPads and computers to enhance and support their learning. In

Mathematics the students independently use an internet based program to consoli-

date on the content they are learning in class. They are becoming more proficient

and competent at using the iPads and computers to research set topics to further

Making different lengths out of

play dough. their understanding and knowledge in specific areas. This is also helping improve

their writing skills. Weaving is occurring in the classroom for a NAIDOC art com-

petition incorporating photos of images of “because of her, we can.”. We haven’t

finished yet but hopefully their work will be on display soon. The feedback from the

students who attended the soccer, netball and NRL gala days this term was very

positive. They said they really enjoyed learning new skills, participating in the games

and meeting and interacting with students from other schools.

Myall Creek Memorial 2018

On Sunday 10th June, our Buumbira dancers performed

at the 180th Myall Creek Memorial. The dancers worked

extremely hard and gave up their free time to prepare.

A huge thank you to Sarah Anderson for all the hard

work put in to preparing the dancers and making the

outfits which looked amazing. To Josh Williams thank

you for helping Sarah with the dancers, your time is very

much appreciated.

For those who attended I am sure they would also agree

the performance by the children was truly wonderful.

P&C News

Our next P&C meeting will be held on Tuesday 19th June at 2pm in the staff room. We welcome Parents and Caregivers to come along and be a part of the P&C . We have plenty of great fundraising ideas that need support in organising.

Canteen News

Parents please note: There is NO booking up of student lunches at the Canteen. If your

child does not have lunch please call the school and they will be provided with a sandwich.

We are always looking for helpers in the Canteen. If you are willing to help out for an hour or two,

please call and see Petta in the Canteen. If there are no helpers to volunteer there may be days

when the canteen will be forced to close due to illness or other commitments.
