THE 3 CARDINAL FIREARMS SAFETY RULES1. Alwayshandleafirearmasifitisloaded
Evenifyoudeterminethatafirearmisunloaded,always,always,alwayshandleitlikeitISloaded.Whenyouhandleafirearm,thefirstthingyoushoulddo(withthefirearmpointedinasafedirection),isopentheactiontoidentifywhetherthefirearmisloaded.Ifyoudonotknowhowtoopentheaction,donothandlethefirearm.Andremember,removingamagazinealonedoesnotmakeafirearmunloaded,astheremaybearoundinthechamber.2. Alwayskeepyourfingeroutofthetriggerguardandoffthetriggeruntilyouareready
toshootyourtarget
Donotplaceyourfingerinsidethetriggerguarduntilyouhaveplacedafirearm’ssightsonyourtargetandhavedecidedtofire.Thebestplacetorestyourfingerinthemeantimeisabovethetriggerguardalongtheframe.Bywaitinguntilyouareaimedatyourtarget,ifthetriggerweretobepressed,youwillguaranteethatashotwilltravelsafelyinthedirectionofyourintendedtarget.3. Alwayskeepafirearmpointedinasafedirection,beforeandbeyondyourtarget
Itisimportanttoidentifyyouractualtarget,butitisjustasimportanttoknowwhatliespastandbeforeyourtarget.Asafedirectionisanydirectionwhereanunintentionaldischargeormisswillnotcauseinjuryordamage.Indeterminingasafedirection,rememberthat

aroundcanricochetoffanobjectlikeafloor,waterorwall,orgothroughwalls,floors,ceilings,andwindows.Whetherinahouseoroutdoors,thesafestdirectionisthemuzzleangleddowntowardthefloor.Andneverpointatorcrossthemuzzleofafirearm(loadedorunloaded)atanypartofanyperson’sbody—thelaserrule!

ALWAYS DETERMINE THAT THE FIREARM IS SAFE TO OPERATEBeforeshooting,makesurethefirearmisingoodworkingorder,thatthebarrelisclear,andthatthefirearmissafetooperate.Thisisespeciallyimportantwhenhandlingafirearmthathasbeenstoredorunusedforalongperiodoftime.
ALWAYS USE CORRECT AMMUNITIONNeveruseimproperorincorrectammunition.Onlyuseammunitionthatisrecommendedbythefirearmmanufacturerthecaliberofyourfirearm.Mostfirearmshavethecaliberengravedorstampedonthebarrel.Yourammunitionshouldhavetheexactsamecaliber.Ifyouusetheincorrectammunition,itcandestroyafirearmandcauseseriousinjury.Additionally,itvoidsyourwarranty.
WHENCLEANINGAFIREARM,MAKESUREITISNOTLOADEDOneofthemostcommonstatementsfollowinganaccidentaldischargeis:“Iwascleaningthefirearmanditwentoff!”Whenyoucleanafirearm,makesureitisnotloaded.Youshouldkeeptheammunitioninanotherroomuntilyouhavefinishedcleaningthefirearmandarereadytoreload.

NEVER USE FIREARMS WHILE USING DRUGS OR ALCOHOLWhenyouhandlefirearms,yourjudgmentmustNOTbeimpaired.YoushouldNEVERhandlefirearmswhileundertheinfluenceofalcohol,illegaldrugsorwhileusinglegalprescriptionmedicationthatcanmakeyoutiredoraffectyoursenses,reflexes,orjudgment.
USE EYE AND EAR PROTECTIONAlwayswearpropereyeandearprotectionwhileshootingfirearms;earprotectionwillhelppreventhearinglossfromtheextremedecibellevelofgunfire,andeyeprotectionwillhelppreventejectiongases,ricochetedobjects,casings,oranyforeignobjectsfromdamagingyoureyes.Besmart,besafe.

3. BEFORE USING YOUR PISTOLYourTisaspistolissemi-automatic,meaningthatitisautomaticallyreloadedandreadytofireagainaftereachshot.YourTisaspistolcanfireevenwithoutamagazineinserted.Forthatreason,ejectingthemagazineorinsertinganemptymagazinedoesnotmakeyourpistolsafe.Rather,toensureyourpistolissafe,youmustejectthemagazine,emptythechamber,andthenvisuallyinspectthechambertoensurenocartridgeorotherobstructionispresent.Possess,carryanduseyourpistolinaccordancewithallrelevantlocal,state,andfederallaws.Ifyoupurchasedthisfirearmsecondhand,haveitcheckedbyaqualifiedarmorerorgunsmithtoensureitissafetooperate.
ATTENTION: Keep your fi rearm in a safe place where children cannot access it. Always store your fi rearm unloaded and store the key to the lock separately from the ammunition.

IMPORTANT: When not in use, your fi rearm should be secured with a lock to prevent unauthorized use. A cable lock, such as shown here must be used to prevent the fi rearm from locking into battery to prevent use.

5. OVERVIEW OF SAFETY MECHANISMSYourTisaspistolisequippedwithagripsafety.Whenengaged,thissafetyfeatureprovidesablockinfrontofthetriggermechanismthatpreventsfiring.Whentheshootergripsthepistolfirmly,thissafetyfeaturedisengagesandceasestopresentabarriertofiring.However,disengagementofthisfeaturehasnobearingontheothersafetyfeatures.Inorderforthepistoltofire,thethumbsafetymustalsobedisengaged.Thethumbsafety(2) canbeengagedanddisengagedwhenthehammer(1) isinthecockedposition.However,whenthehammerisintheforwardposition,thethumbsafetycannotbeengagedordisengaged.

Thehammer safetyisengagedwhenthehammeriscockedandthethumbselectorleverisswitchedintotheupposition.Whenthehammerisnotcocked,thissafetycannotbeengaged,however,itcanbeengagedifthehammerishalf-cocked.Ifthehammerisfully-cockedandyouwanttoengagethehammersafety,dothefollowing:• Safelyunloadthepistolandperformaninspectiontoensureyouhavedoneso.• Gripthepistolfirmlyandpointitinasafedirection.• Whilegraspingthehammerfirmlybetweentwofingers,squeezethetrigger,andslowly
guidethehammertoitshalf-cockedposition.• Lockthehammerbyuseofthethumbsafetyselector.Whenthehammersafetyisengaged,thehammerwillnottouchthefiringpin.
ATTENTION: Do not attempt to engage the hammer safety when the chamber is loaded. The pistol will fi re if the hammer slips from between your fi ngers, possibly resulting in injury or death to yourself or others.

6. LOADINGAftermakingsurethatyourpistolisclean,andthattheammunitionisclean,dryandofthecorrectcaliberandtype,holdthemagazinewithonehandandinsertammunitioncartridgesintothemagazinewiththeotherhanduntilthemagazineisfullyloaded.Insertthemagazineintothepistol,thenretracttheslideandreleaseit.Atthispoint,thechamberisloadedandyourpistolisreadytofire.
IMPORTANT: Always keep your fi nger off the trigger while loading your pistol, and always point the barrel in a safe direction.

7. FIRING• Gripyourpistolfirmlyinsuchawayasto
disengagethegripsafety.• Pointthepistolatyourintendedtargetand
assumeapropershootingstance.• Aimthepistolpreciselyatyourintendedpointof
impactwithinthelargertarget.• Whenyouarereadytofire,placeyourfingeron
thetriggerandlightlysqueezethetrigger.Thepistolwillfireonecartridge,andthenreadyitselftofireasubsequentcartridge.
• Squeezethetriggeragaintofirethissubsequentcartridge,andrepeatthisprocedureuntilyouwishtostopfiringoruntilyourunoutofammunition,atwhichpointtheslidewilllockinitsretractedposition.
IMPORTANT: If you are untrained or inexperienced, and have a misfi re, a malfunction, or in the event the pistol stops fi ring before the magazine is empty, unload the pistol and utilize the assistance of a qualifi ed fi rearms instructor before attempting to operate your Tisas pistol.

8. UNLOADINGWhenthelastcartridgeinthemagazineisfired,theslidelocksinitsretractedposition.Tounloadfromthispoint:• Pointthebarrelinasafedirection.• Ejectthemagazinebypressingthemagazinereleaselever.• Pulltheslidetotherearandvisuallyinspectthechambertoconfirmthatitisempty.• Slowlyreleasetheslidetoitsforwardposition.Ifyouwishtounloadbeforethemagazinehasbeenemptied,whentheslideisinaforwardposition,orwhenthehammerisinthefully-cockedposition:• Pointthebarrelinasafedirectionandkeepyourfingeroffthetrigger.• Ejectthemagazinebypressingthemagazinereleaselever.• Pulltheslidetotherearandvisuallyinspectthechambertoconfirmthatitisempty.• Releasethehammerbyfollowingtheprocedureforthatspecificaction.
ATTENTION: In order to ensure that your pistol is unloaded, eject the magazine and then visually inspect the chamber by pulling the slide rearward.

9. DECOCKING THE HAMMER• Pointthebarrelinasafedirectionandmakesure
yourpistolisunloaded.• Gripthepistolproperlywithyourdominanthand
asifpreparingtofire.• Graspthehammerbetweenthethumbandindex
fingerofyourotherhand.• Squeezethetriggerandslowlypushthehammer
untilthehammersafetyisengaged.Donotreleasethehammeruntilthehammerfitsintoitshalf-cockedposition.
ATTENTION: Always store and carry your pistol with its chamber empty and its hammer safety engaged. When your pistol is loaded, do not try to release the hammer, as doing so may fi re your pistol and cause injury or death to yourself or others. Also, release the hammer slowly by grasping it fi rmly between two fi ngers. Fast release of the hammer can result in damage to the fi ring pin.

10. TROUBLESHOOTINGCAUTION: When troubleshooting, always safely unload your fi rearm while pointing in a safe direction.
Slide will not lock forward into battery:• Donotattempttomanuallyforcetheslideintobattery.• Pointyourbarrelinasafedirection.• Ejectthemagazine.• Retracttheslidetofacilitateextractionandejectionofthechamberedcartridge.• Ifthecartridgedoesnotextractandeject,locktheslideinitsretractedposition.• Inspectthecartridgeandcarefullyattemptmanualextraction/ejection.Ifthecartridge
cannotbeextracted/ejected,seektheassistanceofaqualifiedarmorerorgunsmith.
ATTENTION: This problem may be the result of a dirty fi rearm, incorrect ammunition, or an incorrect magazine. Do not attempt manual extraction/ejection of a severely impounded cartridge, as doing so may result in a serious accident and/or injury.

Squib load, inadequate charge in cartridge:• Thiscanberecognizedbyaweakreportwhenfired,possiblyalightrecoilofthe
operationandafailedejection.• Stopfiringimmediately.• Unloadyourfirearminasafemanner.• Retractandlocktheslidetotherearandinspectboththechamberandthebarrelto
determinewhetherornottheyareobstructed.• Ifanobstructionispresent,keepyourpistolpointedinasafedirectionandobtain
assistancefromaqualifiedarmorerorgunsmith.
IMPORTANT: If the chamber/barrel becomes obstructed and you continue to fi re, the pistol may explode, resulting in serious injury or death to yourself or others.

Troubleshooting other malfunctions:• Replaceanydamagedmagazinesorammunitioncartridges.• Inspectandcleanthechamber.• Cleanthemagazine.• Cleanthethumbsafetyselectorandthecartridgeramp.• Ifaftertakingthesestepsyourpistolcontinuestomalfunction,obtainassistancefrom
aqualifiedarmorerorgunsmith.
ATTENTION: Carry out all troubleshooting operations in a safe location with the fi rearm pointed in a safe direction.
ATTENTION: Cleaning solvent is a fl ammable material and should be kept away from a fl ame.

11. DISASSEMBLY and ASSEMBLYDisassembly for Model 1911 A1• Pointthebarrelinasafedirectionandremovethe
magazine.• Opentheslidetoensurethechamberisemptyandvisually
inspectthechamber.• Pushtherecoilspringpluginandrotatethebarrelbushing
90°clockwise.• Removetherecoilspringplug.Iftherecoilspringiseasily
removed,dosoatthistime.Ifnot,leaveinstalled.
NOTE: Keep your hand on the recoil spring as it is under pressure. If you lose your grip, the spring may eject and could lead to injury.

• Rotatethebarrelbushingbackcounterclockwise90°andthen45°furtheruntilitcanberemoved.
• Removetheslidestopbyslowlypushingthesliderearwarduntilthehalfmoondetentnotchlinesupwiththerearofthestopandthenpressthestopfromtherightsideandpulloutfromtheleft.
• Removetheslidebyslowlypushing/pullingitforwardoffoftheframe.
• Removetherecoilspringguiderod,andrecoilspringifitisstillinstalled.
• Lifttounlockandthenremovethebarrelfromtheslide.
Assembly for Model 1911 A1• Followthestepsfordisassemblyinreverseorder.
ATTENTION: Take care to maintain fi rm control of the recoil spring plug during assembly. Failure to do so may result in injury as the recoil spring plug is propelled by force of the recoil spring. Also, ensure correct positioning of the barrel link during reassembly.

12. CLEANINGMaterials needed for cleaning:• Solvent• Gunoil• Cleaningcloth• Brush• Ramrod
WARNING: Wear protective goggles when using solvent.
• Removethemagazine.• Extract/ejectanychamberedroundandconfirmthatthechamberisclear.• Disassemblethefirearm.• Removethegrippanelsifyouwillusesolventtocleantheframeorotherpartsclose
totheframe(donotcleanthegrippanelswithsolventanddonotlubricatethem).• Wipedirtysurfaces,parts,slidechannelsandinsidethebarrelwithsolventusingbrush. • Donotusebrushfrombothendsofthebarrel,cleanfromthechamberendonly.Itisa
bestpracticetonotallowthebrushtoabradethecrownofthemuzzleonanygun.

• Wipedownallsurfacestoremovedirtandsolvent.• Lightlylubricateallexternal(exceptforthegrippanels)andinternalpartswithgunoil.• Dryoutersurfacesofthefirearmwithacleancloth.• Removeanyexcesslubricantfromtheinternaloperatingpartsofthefirearm.• Reassemblethefirearm.• Retractandreleasetheslideandoperatethesafetymechanismtoensureproper
functioning.

RETURN WITHOUT REPAIR Ifwereceiveyourfirearmanddeterminethatitsdamageisunwarrantable,wewillcontactyouwithanexplanationandanestimationofyourcosttohaveusrepairorrefurbishit.Ifyouwouldratherwesimplyreturnyourfirearmtoyou,wewillcoverthecostofshippingtodoso.
FREE REPAIR AND RETURN Ifyourfirearmisdefectiveandwedeterminethedefectiswarrantied,Zenithwilltrytorepairit.Ifwerepairyourfirearm,afterdoingsowewillshipitdirectlybacktoyou,providedyouoriginallyshippedittousfromyouraddress.Ifyourfirearmcannotberepaired,wewillconsiderreplacingit.Ifweendupreplacingyourfirearm,wewillshipitbacktoyouviaalicensedFFLdealer,andtheremaybeadditionalchargesthatyou’llhavetocover,suchastransferfeesandbackgroundcheckfees.Ineithercase,though,wewillpayforshipping.
