Titus 2
TRANSFORMED BY GOD’S
STANDARDS
Titus 1:5-9
5 I left you on the island of Crete so you could complete our work there and appoint elders in each town as I instructed you.
Titus 1:5-9
6 An elder must live a blameless life. He must be faithful to his wife,[a] and his children must be believers who don’t have a reputation for being wild or rebellious.
Titus 1:5-9
7A church leader[a] is a manager of God’s household, so he must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker,[b] violent, or dishonest with money.
Titus 1:5-9
8Rather, he must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must love what is good. He must live wisely and be just. He must live a devout and disciplined life.
Titus 1:5-9
9 He must have a strong belief in the trustworthy message he was taught; then he will be able to encourage others with wholesome teaching and show those who oppose it where they are wrong.
CRETE CHURCH WERE BEING ATTACKED.
Paul wants to help and instructed Titus in
getting the church to it should be.
Lack of commitment among God’s people, lack of standards for
God’s people.
Sins are not called sins anymore?
Two ways to assist the church in getting to
where it should be:
A BY ORGANIZING
GOD’S PEOPLE
Titus 1:5
5 I left you on the island of Crete so you could complete our work there and appoint elders in each town as I instructed you.
1 TWO (2) PURPOSES FOR TITUS:
“STRAIGHTEN OUT THE
CHURCHES”(SET IN ORDER
WHAT REMAINS).
Transition times are always difficult,
whether it be a baby or church being born.
b APPOINT ELDERS IN
EVERY CITY.
Titus is not only instructed by Paul to put
individuals in charge over the new church
plants but also on who he should appoint.
“Timing of appointing leaders is very
important”
- If it is too early, you may get wrong
leaders.- If it is too late, then
false teachers may arise.
- If it is just right time, then you have good
leaders and have good church.
If you are an “ELDER” you must be more mature, wise
and experienced
(James 5:13)
Elders are very important.
Phil 2:3
3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.
Elders should be committed to the
congregation.
Joshua 24:14New Living Translation (NLT)14 “So fear the LORD and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD alone.
Joshua 24:14 (a)14 “So fear the LORD and serve him wholeheartedly.
Elders should reach out.
2 CHURCH ORGANIZATIO
N
Church must be organized especially
when the church becomes big already
and they call it denominations.
“It must be a Christ centered church, lovable and faithful”
“It must be a growing church with a
growing disciple of God”
B BY MANDATING
GODLY STANDARDS
Titus 1:6-9 (NLT)
6 An elder must live a blameless life. He must be faithful to his wife,[a] and his children must be believers who don’t have a reputation for being wild or rebellious.
Titus 1:6-9 (NLT)
7 A church leader[a] is a manager of God’s household, so he must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker,[b] violent, or dishonest with money.
Titus 1:6-9 (NLT)
9 He must have a strong belief in the trustworthy message he was taught; then he will be able to encourage others with wholesome teaching and show those who oppose it where they are wrong.
1 Mistaken Notions of Leaders
aAttitudes and lives of children
are not related to the lives of their
parents
The good point is that as you change, your
children should change too.
bA life of a leader is not related to effectiveness of
ministry
The character of a leader is the most
important qualifications for effective ministry.
2Godly Qualities Needed
Be above reproach, the husband of one wife, having children who
believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion,
above reproach as God’s steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not
addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of
sordid gain.
But hospitable, loving what is good, sensible,
just, devout, self-controlled, holding fast
the faithful word.
“Character is very important according to
Paul”
Poor character = Poor Leaders
Good testimony in the family
There are two great dangers to those in
ministry; wealth and women.
Live what you “preach”
3Developing Godly Leaders
We don’t have great leaders, because we don’t cherish godly
values.
We must be an influence, to others esp.
in our family
It is only when we live holy lives will we attract
people that God is prompting into the Kingdom. Garbage
attracts flies. Holiness attracts those with
whom God is working.
This message is not only to Leaders, Workers, but
to every Believers!!!
Live a Holy life.
Christians are not “Perfect” but always
Forgiven and protected..
As families, we need to recognize that we are
responsible to train the character of our
children. If we do not, then we are not faithful
to God’s Word.
CONCLUSION:
TWO STEPS FOR REVIVAL
1 LOVE THE CHURCH OF GOD AND BE COMMITTED.
2RETURN TO BIBLICAL
STANDARDS.
Break Out Questions:1. As a child of God, where are you now in your transformation?2. In a scale of 1 to 10 being 10 the maximum, how do you grade your commitment to church?3. What is God telling you about being a leader someday?
