Gala Dinner ’09
Celebrating a Year of Fun, Change and Difference
From the Executive Director The idea behind the Gala Dinner was first developed back in June 2009 after the success of project Can It ʼ09. Since then the Gala Dinner planning started; everyone started jotting down ideas in the summer holiday and then when we all came back in October, the intensive planning started. Gala Dinner ʼ09 was by far an easy task to pull off, as the announcements for the Dinner were made, the expectations of the event kept rising and rising, We ended up with a full time Gala Dinner team of 14 TLM members and another 23 Members who worked on the project part time. While it was hard work managing the guest list, replying to the endless number of e-mails, hunting down the preformers and much much more I think on behalf of all of the team I say
WE HAD A BLAST! Just like everything else Tout Le Monde we have a habit of making everything we do enjoyable to the last minute, the Gala Dinner only brought the TLM team closer and lead to a discovery of a lot of talents the TLM members never knew they had. Yet again Tout Le Monde managed to leave a mark hosting a definitely one of a kind event. There goes another TLM original idea.Beofre you read on and find out more about the Gala Dinner ʼ09, there are some people who i have to thank, first off, my amazing team of current and former EB members Niyati, Lina, Ahmed S, Satria, Dena, Vidia and Zahra for answering my phone calls at the middle of the night and always being their when needed. A special thanjs has to go to Marry Ann, Klaus Tiel and Alberta Stevens for their continuous support making this event possible, not forgetting of course Mr.Mohamed Khaldy as he has continuously supported every step TLM has made, since the very beginning of the road. Last but not least are the people who made it all possible, the reason TLM exists and is where it is today, TLM members you know i love you all.

Ab!t Gala Dinner ’09One of Qatar’s most successful youth Establishments, Tout Le Monde Youth Organiza>on, celebrated ‘a year of Tout Le Monde’ on Wednesday 9th December. The event was a gliFering gala of presenta>ons, exhibi>ons, performances and the recogni>on of the pres>gious guests at the Gala Dinner. The Dinner was hosted in the Al Khor Community and boasted a red carpet entrance. Tout Le Monde is an organiza>on run en>rely by youth. It is based in Al Khor Community; a housing compound serving over 7,500 residents with first-‐class facili>es. Tout Le Monde is the first organiza>on in Qatar to become part of Reach Out To Asia’s Youth Service Clubs Network. The organiza>on was founded in February 2009 and by December; the it has gained 113 plus members, more than 80 volunteers and 13,000 par>cipants of 36 different na>onali>es. The Gala Dinner this week was aFended by over 140 members and guests, as well as the Director of Reach Out To Asia Founda>on; Mrs. Omnia Nour, Head of ROTA-‐Qatar; Alberta Marie-‐Stevens and various prominent youth leaders from around the country. Tout Le Monde also honoured and recognized the efforts of many youth in the country who strive to make a difference in our worlds. The awards included one for the Human Rights Student Organiza>on for being One of Qatar’s Most outstanding Youth Organiza>ons in 2009 and two awards for Omnia Nour and Alberta Stevens for their devo>on and support of youth development in Qatar. The Poli>cal Society and Top Shabab were also honoured for being One of Qatar’s Most Outstanding Youth Organiza>ons in 2009. One of the highlights of the event were the presenta>ons and exhibi>on boards showcasing the many achievements of Tout Le Monde, from the massive Can It ’09 project for the migrant workers to the interna>onal Stand Up Take Ac>on campaign, the boards and presenta>ons displayed the heights that Tout Le Monde has climbed. The guests were very impressed with the work that had gone in, especially by the Execu>ve Board of the organiza>on. Ahmed Abul Kassem, the Founder and Execu>ve Director believes that “Youth tend to be stereotyped as unable to make a real difference or have a real effect on anyone, but in the last year Tout Le Monde has proven the exact opposite: give us the voice and power to do so and we will make a change and difference. Tout Le Monde is unique as it’s the only youth organiza>on in Qatar which is run solely by youth with no adult pressure or influence, this has made Tout Le Monde Members more confident and independent, becoming leaders and learning from their mistakes without the fear that they will disappoint anyone. As we say in TLM, there is no limit”. Tout Le Monde has a unique managerial structure. The organiza>onal hierarchy consists of the three CommiFees (Human Rights, Social Youth, Greener & Cleaner) and three Departments created to support them (Press Team, Event Support, Media & Marke>ng). The CommiFees and
Departements are under the instruc>on of the Execu>ve Board. This currently consists of Lina Omary (Training and Personal Development Director), Ahmed Salih (Club Services Director), Niya> Burde (Secretary and Community Service Project Director), Deena Omar (Co-‐President) and Satria Chandra K (Co-‐President and Treasurer) and of course, Ahmed Abul Kassem (Execu>ve Director). These young people have been with Tout Le Monde since its establishment in February and share feelings of pride at its success today. When asked about his thoughts on Tout Le Monde, Satria had this to say: “Watching Tout Le Monde grow from 6 members to 113, made me realize how youth want to lead, make a change and a difference in their community but are never given the chance to do it in their own perspec>ve. So they eventually give up and with >me, care less and less. TLM has given a chance to its members to change their community and show that they care in their own individual way.” The event was also unique as it celebrated the achievements of all youth ini>a>ves in Qatar. The Tout Le Monde Gala Dinner was the first >me in Qatar that all major youth organisa>ons were in support of each other in one place. The presidents of various youth organisa>ons from around Qatar were present -‐ some of whom were honoured -‐ all to celebrate the power of youth and the growing maturity of the students in the country today. Tout Le Monde has worked hard to make sure that their en>re organisa>on reflected the duality of maturity and spontaneity that youth have today by showcasing their effec>ve and successful media campaigns. Tout Le Monde has a high quality website, a mailing list, a computerized member database, a tex>ng service a newsleFer and an upcoming magazine. Not sa>sfied with this, Ahmed Kassem also announced a new youth ini>a>ve for expanding youth talents with Project Youth Business and most importantly, a Doha Expansion project (due to popular demand) as Tout Le Monde is currently based in Al Khor only. The Gala Dinner was a momentous occasion for all as the VIP guests clearly showed in their speeches. Alberta Stevens thanked the Tout Le Monde Execu>ve Board and members, saying she was "proud of the outstanding work. You really ought to celebrate your accomplishment. What you achieved on wednessday was a huge milestone.I Hope you will have more successes like that in all you do.” At the end of the evening, all guests, members and parents leo the hall feeling quite impressed with the achievements of their ability to pull off such a outstanding event without the interven>on of any adults. The Tout Le Monde Gala Dinner 2009 was an excep>onal success, specially as the first youth lead Gala Dinner in Qatar.

The Political Society based in Qatar University defines politics as a tool which is not used yet by the majority. Thus, politics remain currently a definition that is almost corrupted and terrifying to the public. What we really seek as the political society is simply trying to educate and engage citizens especially the youth to participate actively within the government. Civic Education is our clear target that mainly concentrates on variety of campaigns and activities that enrich youth and acknowledge them toward understanding the state, the system, rights and even legislations. We also seek to engage youth toward understanding the global conflicts and to provide with rational resolutions.
