The Conformance WG
• Was formed by the TC End of July 2005, with the charter of discussing the compliance process as well as compliance testing and documentation and making recommendations about changes to the LXI Specification required to accommodate them.
• David Owen (Pickering) has accepted the position of Deputy Chairman
• Weekly meetings: each Tuesday at 11:00 ET.

14.1 Introduction
• Introduction:
“The LXI Compliance Specifications define the general rules and agreements under which equipment manufacturers shall apply and be granted permission to label their equipment with the LXI Logo, use the LXI logo in marketing literature, and advertise their equipment as LXI compliant.”

14.2 General Intend
• Ensure “Interoperability”• Three methods to seek approval for a LXI device
– Test interop against other LXI devices in a controlled environment using approved test procedures
– Technical Justification in case of a direct legacy from an existing LXI device which has already been approved
– Certification from independent Test Lab approved by the LXI Consortium
• Issue: Test procedures

14.3 General Compliance Process
• Manufacturer satisfies the compliance and interopt testing procedures
• Manufacturer applies to the Consortium for approval to label their device as LXI compliant by submitting the required documentation (and license fee)
• Consortium reviews application• Approved products are added to the official
compliant product list maintained by the LXI consortium

14.4 Compliance Grievance Process
• Users that experience difficulties they believe results from non-compliance may notify the LXI Consortium of the issue
• Consortium will notify manufacturer and request that the issue be resolved
• The manufacturer may resolve the issue by:– Proving the issue is not due to non-compliance of the
device– Correcting the non-compliance– Discontinue marking and selling the device as LXI
compliant

14.5 Specific Compliance Requirements
• Interoperability Testing:– Rule - Compliance Demonstration at a PlugFest
• Permission: Compliance Demonstration at an Interop Test arranged by a member of the Consortium
– Rule - Number and Class of Approved Devices Required for Compliance Testing
– Rule - Use of Approved Interoperability Test Procedures
– Rule - Witness of the Compliance Tests by a Designated Representative
– Rule - Test Documentation and Request for Certification

14.5 Specific Compliance Requirements
• Technical Justification Procedure:– Compliance certification can be requested based on written
Technical Justification that a new LXI Device has a direct legacy from and traceability to an existing LXI Device that has already received approval
– Rule - Technical Justification Procedure:Document including the name of the Manufacturer, Device Type and Serial Number, date of the tests, the version of the LXI Specification which was used for the tests of the original devices from which inheritance is claimed, the version of the Interoperability Test procedures used to test the original devices, the specifications of the other LXI Devices used in the tests, and the inheritance of the Device or LXI Interface of the Device for which the certification is being requested

14.5 Specific Compliance Requirements
• Certification by an Independent Laboratory:– Certification can be requested based on the results of
compliance testing carried out by an Independent Laboratory approved by the Consortium.
– Rule – Test Documentation and Request for Compliance:Document defining the specifications of the Device for which certification is being requested, including the name of the Manufacturer, Device Type and Serial Number, date of the tests, the version of the LXI Specification which was used for the tests, the version of the Interoperability Test procedures used, the specifications of the other LXI Devices used in the tests, the test results, and the name of the Independent Laboratory which carried out the tests

• To work with BoD to review Conformance Process
• To work with the individual WG to define test procedure specifications for their domains in the “LXI Compliance Test Procedures”
• To work with David Owen to review compliance text in Section 1.

• To review License Agreement• Roadmap: To be completed for V1.1 (End 2005)
