Hadith of the Month

Sayyiduna Abu Talha Ansari

(RadiAllahu Anhu) narrates,

“Once the Noble Prophet

Sallallahu ‘Alayhi wa Salim

came to us and he was ex-

tremely happy. His happiness

was apparent from his coun-

tenance. The Companions

RadiAllahu Anhum said, ‘O

Messenger of Allah, we see

that you are very happy to-

day.’

The Noble Prophet Sallallahu

‘Alayhi wa Salim replied,

‘Yes, indeed. I have received

a message from my Lord.

Allah said that whoever from

my umma invokes one bless-

ing upon me, Allah shall rec-

ord ten good deeds for him,

forgive ten of his sins and

raise his status tenfold.’”

Editor’s Note: Alhamdulillahi Rabi ‘Alameen The number of blessings Allah has

given us are innumerable. Alham-

dulillah, there are too many to count.

We are able to attend school, receive

an education, go home knowing we

will get food to eat, and live peaceful-

ly in a country that gives us these

beautiful freedoms.

There are times where we go through

hardships and tests in life; however,

we have to always be thankful to

Allah. We don't really know true

pain, poverty, oppression, and hunger

like others less fortunate than us may

know it. But know that everything

happens for a reason.

People in hardship receive more of

Allah’s infinite mercy than those in

ease. This is because every moment

that we are in hardship, pain, or des-

pair we are being rewarded for hav-

ing Sabr (patience) and relying on

Allah. If people on the Day of Judg-

ment knew of the reward that came

from tests and having Sabr through

them, people would plead to

Allah to bring them back into the

duniya and have their skin peeled

from their bodies just so they could

gain the reward for going through

hardship. Subhan’Allah.

In addition, the Sahaba Karam them-

selves wished they could remain in a

state of trial and hardship. They did

this because they knew that Allah

would provide ease after every diffi-

culty, as stated in the Majestic

Qur’an. They would get worried as

soon as they left the trial and the

hardship ended because they don't

know what would happen afterwards!

AllahuAkbr!

We should always be thankful for the

mercies and blessings Allah has given

us. We thank him by remembering

him and fulfilling our duty to Him.

We are thankful that he guided us to

be Muslims as that is our greatest

blessing. Alhamdulillahi Rabil

A Student’s Perspective: “I

want to show my love for the

most beloved person ”

Misbah Kaludi, a student of IFSS grade 1B, was

inspired to create a poster on Rasulullah

during the month of Rabi Al-Awwal. Misbah

heard about the Exemplary Life of the Prophet

Muhammad program being held and want-

ed to have her poster displayed during the

event.

On the poster Misbah, put the salawat we send

on Rasulullah in our every prayer: Durood

-e– Ibraheema.

In addition, she wrote the name of our Rasul

in her best markers and used glitter to make

her poster even more appealing.

Misbah also handwrote her favorite poem about

Rasulullah

“We love Mohammad, Oh yes we do

He is our prophet, to him we’re true

Blessed Rasul-Allah, it’s you

Mohammad, we love you

We love Mohammad sent from Allah

Was born in Mecca to Amena

He was the son of Abdullah

Misbah finished her poster with a message to

everyone. She wrote down why she made this

poster. Here are her words:

“I wanted to do something about the most

beloved person, Prophet Muhammad so

here I showed my love for him and I want

my friends to send Durood upon him.”

Many people complimented her poster, and see-

ing her love for Rasulullah was truly in-

spiring and heart-warming, especially for

such a young person.

May Allah increase her in her love for the

Prophet and all the students to have this love.

May Allah guide us onto the straight path of

those whom he has favored. Ameen. Ameen.

During the month of Rabi'al-Awwal, many of us were blessed to attend gatherings in which the birth,

life, teachings and qualities of the beloved Rasool (May God bless him and give him peace) were out-

lined. To know him is to love him, but sadly, many Muslims today remain largely unaware of the

dimensions of his perfection and his extraordinary nature. He is the Best of Creation and the Habib

(Beloved) of Allah, whose exalted status is something which we cannot fully comprehend. Only Al-

lah truly knows his ultimate reality.

As the poet Imam Busiri (d. 695 AH) says in the Poem of the Mantle (Qasidat al-Burda):

"How can his reality be grasped in this world by people who are asleep,

distracted from him by dreams?"

The first few generations of Muslims (the Salaf) were certainly the best people of this Ummah. How-

ever, not all of them had deep knowledge of the details of religion or the ability to perform long and

difficult acts of worship. But one characteristic that they all had in common was their deep reverence

for the Prophet (May God bless him and give him peace), love of his family and everything that had

any relation to him. They truly understood that love of the Noble Messenger (May God bless him and

give him peace) is the quickest and most direct means of gaining Allah's Pleasure.

Through him, we were brought out of darkness into the light of Islam and were saved from falsehood

and the wrath of Allah. Because of his excellent example, there is no area of our life in which we are

left without guidance, showing us the clear and broad path to Paradise. The debt we owe to our par-

ents—who have sacrificed their lives for our earthly well-being—is very little in comparison to the

gratitude we owe to the one who opened for us the door to eternal salvation. Our love for him can

only grow when we realize his genuine concern for each one us:

"There has come to you a Messenger from among yourselves, grievious to whom is

your suffering, concerned for you, to the believers gentle and compassion-

ate."

This concern was present throughout his whole life and even at the time of his death, he pleaded for

his Ummah. This concern is still present now, and will be openly displayed on the Day of Judgment

at a time when everyone, even the greatest of prophets (peace be upon them all), will be worried

about their own souls. As we recall his life and sacrifices, our longing for him increases, as does our

realization that he is in fact the greatest favor of Allah to us and the whole of creation.

The question then arises: how can we express our love for him, thank him for his generosity, and

praise him in a way that is befitting and appropriate to his rank? In general, this entails following his

Sunnah and reciting blessings and peace (known as Durud Sharif in the Indian subcontinent) or sala-

wat and salam upon him as specifically commanded in the Quran:

“Allah and His angels bless the Prophet. O you who believe! Bless him and salute him

with a worthy salutation.”

The greatness and honor of this act is clear, in that Allah includes Himself among those who would

perform this act, in a manner befitting His Majesty. As believers, we ask Allah to shower His bless-

ings upon him by saying “Allahumma salli…”, or “O’ Allah, bless him…” because we ourselves can-

not fully repay his generosity.

If reciting the Salawaat was only about thanking him, then it would be enough for us to consider

it our duty to do this all the time. But in fact, the salawat is itself another of his many gifts to us. It

gives us an opportunity to partake in the incredible outpouring of Divine blessings, Mercy and peace

which occurs continuously forever. Allama Sakhawi (d.902 AH) and many other scholars have dis-

cussed the Ahadith which recount the benefits of performing salawat on the Prophet:

1) God sends tenfold blessings and mercy on the recitor of salawat

2) Sins are pardoned and one’s prayers are answered

3) The salawat preserves from afflictions

4) It drives away poverty

5) It increases good deeds and light (nur) in one’s life

6) The recitor will receive a greeting in return from the Prophet (May God bless him and give

him peace) himself each and every time they perform salawat

7) The recitor will increase in love for the Prophet (May God bless him and give him peace)

8) On the Day of Judgment, those who recite salawat abundantly will be the nearest to him.

9) They will be shaded by the Throne,

10) They will receive his Intercession,

11) They will be present with him at the Hawdh-e Kawthar (the Pond)

12) They will be immune from the Fire

The Final Prophet (May God bless him and give him peace) was sent as a Mercy to all the Worlds

(Rahmatal-lil Alamin), and this mercy extends to everyone, whether they are aware of it or not. As

we are honored to be among his followers, we need to constantly remind ourselves of this blessing,

by learning about his example and teachings, remembering his character and the qualities of his sa-

cred being, and reciting salawat upon him, his family and his descendants. If our example as a com-

munity often falls short of the noble teachings of our religion, the key to Divine Mercy remains our

love (for) and connection to the Beloved of Allah (may God bless him and give him peace).

JazaLlahu anna sayyidna Muhammadan sallaLlahu alaihi wa sallam bima huwa ahluh

May God reward Sayyidina Muhammad (may Allah bless him and give him peace!) on our behalf

such a reward that is due to him.

Before the coming of our dear Nabi Muhammad Mustafa the

World was covered completely in darkness, confusion and igno-

rance. His arrival is the answer to the dua of his great ancestors Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail

alayhi salaam: ‘Our Lord! Send amongst them a Messenger of their own, who shall recite unto them

Your Verses and instruct them in the Book (Qur'ân) and Al-Hikmah, and purify them. Verily! You

are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.’ There was much anticipation and yearning for his arrival even

1,000 years before he came (see story of the ancestors of Hazarat Ayub Ansari radiallahu anhu). Spe-

cial people knew that the Final Messenger was going to be born in Makkah Al-Muqarrama. The title

Al-Muqarrama, the Honored City was given because our beloved Nabi sallahu ala wa alaihi wa salim

was born and lived there.

At the moment of his birth, the following confirmed miracles occurred:

1.) False idol statues fell down to the floor and could not be resurrected

2.) The fire in the Magi Temple of Persia which had been meticulously cared for for thousands of

years was put out by the coming of Rahmatu-lil-Alameen

3.) Fourteen tower of the Palace of Persia (Khousra) trembled and collapsed

4.) The throne of Persia cracked

5.) After the event from Surah Al-Fil and a long duration of drought, the surrounding areas was

blessed with a season of greenery and happiness

6.) The river which dried out and used to run between Hamdaan and Qum, Baheera-Saadah, be-

gan to flow 6 miles in width and length

7.) His umbilical cord was already detached

8.) Born in the position of sajdah (prostration)

9.) Perfume emanated from his body

10.) The blessed mother of Rasulullah , Sayyida Amina when pregnant, was noted to have said

that a voice said to her ‘You are pregnant with the lord of this people and when he is born say,

“I put him in the care of the One from the evil of every envier; then call him Muham-

mad”’ (Sirat RasulAllah)

11.) Many narrations of Nur/light becoming visible

- The moment he came from Bibi Amina, a light emerged that illuminated everything

from the east to west

- The room where Rasulullah was born was filled with light

- There was a Nur emanating from Hadrat Amina such that even the palaces of Syria could

be seen

- Hadrat Abbas wrote a poem is regards to seeing this light:

“Upon your birth, the earth was bathed in brightness,

And by your light the far horizons shone.’

- Allah comments on light (5:15-16)

“There has come unto you from Allah a light and a clear Scripture, by which Allah will guide those who

seek His pleasure to paths of peace, and take them out of the darkness and into the light by His

leave.”

12.) The stars were brought closer to the Earth.

Narrated by ‘Uthman ibn Abi al-‘As that his mother, Fatima bint ‘Abdullah, said: ‘When I attended the birth of

the Messenger of Allah SAWS I saw that the room where he was born was filled with light, and I saw the

stars come nearer until I thought they would fall upon me. When Amina bore him, a light shone forth from

her that illuminated the room and the whole house, until I could see nothing but light.’ (Bayhaqi, Tabari,

Tabarani and Ibn ‘Abd al-Baar)

13.) The blessed mothers of the Prophets AS witnessed this event.

Imam Ahmad narrated, on the authority of ‘Irbad ibn Sariya RA, that the Messenger of Allah SAWS said:

‘Indeed, I was Allah’s Seal of the Prophets whilst Adam yet lay in his mold of clay. I shall tell you of this: I

am the answer to Ibrahim’s prayer, and the good news of ‘Isa, and the vision my mother saw, as indeed all

the mothers of the Prophets saw.’ (Ahmed, Tabarani, Ibn Ishaq).

14.) Rasulullah was cared for by angels as narrated by the Prophet’s mother in a longer

hadith in Zarqaani ala-Mawaahib by Khateeb Baghdadi RA:

‘When Muhammad SAWS was born, I saw a huge cloud appear. It was bright and I could hear the sounds of

horses, birds and people speaking. Suddenly he disappeared from me and someone was heard crying

out. “He should be taken to the east and west of the world and shown to the inmates of the sea, as well

so that they may recognize his appearance, qualities and name. He should be presented in front of all

creation (i.e. man, jinn, angels, birds, animals etc.) so that they too can recognize him. Let him possess

the features of Adam AS, the recognition of Shees AS, the courage of Nuh AS, the friendship of Ibra-

him AS, the eloquence of Ismail AS, the acceptance of Is’haaq AS, the elegant speech of Salih AS, wis-

dom of Lut AS, good news of Yaqoob AS, firmness of Musa AS, patience of Ayub AS, obedience of

Yunus AS, jihad of Yusha AS, voice of Dawud AS, love of Danyaal AS, respect of Ilyas AS, chastity of

Yahya AS, and the abstinence of ‘Isa AS. Let him possess all these qualities of the past Ambiya AS.”

Thereafter the cloud went away and I then saw him wrapped in green silk with water dripping from it. A

voice began to say, “Indeed Muhammad SAWS has been granted control of the entire world, and there

is no particle present in creation that is not within his control.” I then looked at his face and saw that it

was brighter than the moon on the 14th night. His body was emitting musk. At that moment three people

appeared. In one’s hand a water pot, in another’s a try of green emeralds and in the last’s a glimmering

ring. The ring was washed 7 times and impressed between Muhammad’s SAWS shoulders producing

the Seal of Prophethood. He was then wrapped in silk material, picked up and presented back to

me.’ (Zarqaani ala-Mawaahib, Vol. 1, Pg. 113-5).

1050 years before the birth of the Prophet sallalahu alaihi wasallam

THE KING AND THE MOST NOBLE PROPHET (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam)

About 2500 years ago, the king of Yemen, Tab’a Awwal Hamiri, went on a tour of his country and those surrounding it. He was a

very rich king indeed. In his entourage he had 12,000 Alims (scholars), physicians and learned men in addi#on to his army of

113,000 soldiers. Wherever they went, the procession of these men and soldiers, which marched with much pomp and ceremony,

people gathered and lined the roadsides to watch and welcome them.

When the entourage reached the outskirts of Makkah, no one came to see them or welcome them to the town. This came as a

great surprise to the king. He asked his chief Minister, “Wherever we’ve gone the people gathered in such droves to see and wel-

come us, but not here, why? What is the reason?”

The Minister replied “your highness, there is a house in this town called BAITULLAH. The people of this town and its Khadim

(servant) have great respect for it; our entourage has no comparison to it; people in large numbers from places far and near come

for pilgrimage to this House. In this town no one will heed you or give you any importance. They respect the Holy House more

than Kings”.

Upon hearing this the king was furious. In anger he swore and declared, “I will raze this House to the ground and have the people

of this town killed!” No sooner had the king uEered these words that blood started pouring from his mouth, nose and eyes. The

blood smelt so foul that his companions moved away from him and no one would come near him. He called upon his physicians

and doctors for treatment but nobody could help or treat him. His condi#on worsened. He could not sleep at night and kept toss-

ing and turning with restlessness. He wanted to get treated by means and at any cost.

Amongst his entourage was a physician who was also a God fearing alim as well. He came to the king, inspected him, took his pulse

and said, “O king, your illness is spiritual. Medicines will not work on you. Did you intend to do something bad or evil, your high-

ness? If you did, He will pardon you and relieve you of your misery and illness if He wishes, you should repent.”

Taking the Physicians advice, the King immediately changed his evil plan to destroy the Kaa’ba and to kill the people of Makkah. No

sooner had he repented the foul smelling blood stopped spur#ng from his eyes, mouth and nose. He became completely cured.

He was very happy at his recovery. He ordered a silk covering for the Kaa’ba and a giG of seven gold sovereigns and seven pieces

of silk clothing for each resident of Makkah.

Having recovered, he con#nued his tour. The entourage next reached Yathrib (now known as Madinah Munawara). The alims in

this group had studied the divine books that had been revealed to the Prophets who had come before them. They took the soil of

Madinah Munawarra, smelt it and looked around at the features of this Holy Land. The signs of the place, where the last Messen-

ger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) would make his Hijra to, as indicated in these Books were all present here. These

Alims were overjoyed and made a commitment to stay put in this town. They wished to live live in Madinah Munawarra and stat-

ed that if they were fortunate, one day they would meet the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam), but if they

were not, then that the dust of the sandals of the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) would land on their

graves. This they thought, would bring them blessings and salva#on.

The King, having heard the alims and counselors, agreed to build 400 homes for them as well as a big house for the Beloved Proph-

et (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam). He leG instruc#ons that when the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam)

came to Madinah, he should stay in the comfort of that house. The king then dictated a leEer to his chief alim and he requested

him to present it to the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) when he comes to Madinah. He further requested

that should he die before that mee#ng, the leEer should be treasured and passed onto his children and their descendants and

presented to the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) whenever he came to this town. He also leG enough mon-

ey to provide for the needs of the 400 alims who were staying behind.

The leEer was passed down from genera#on aGer genera#on from the chief alim to his descendants. AGer more than a thousand

years, the number of children from the 400 alims had greatly increased and comprised a large percentage of the inhabitants of the

popula#on of Madinah Munawarra. The leEer aGer this #me came to be in the possession of one descendant named Hadrat Abu

Ayub Ansari (radi Allahu anhu) who had given it to his servant Abu Laila for safe keeping.

When the people heard that Rasulullah (Salla Allahu ta'ala alaihi wa Sallam) was coming to Madinah from Makkah on his Hijra,

they started making prepara#ons for his arrival. The inhabitants decorated their houses and cleaned the streets. Each of them

wanted the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) to be welcomed into his house, but to overcome the problem he

came up with a proposal; he would let his camel reins free and stay at the house where the camel stopped.

The camel was let loose. It went down the streets and stopped outside the house the king of Yemen had built for him. The Be-

loved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) and the people came to this house and Abu Laila was asked to bring the leEer,

which he had been given for safekeeping. He appeared before the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) with this

leEer that had been passed down from genera#on to genera#on for over a thousand years from King Tab’a Awwal Hamiri.

The Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) seeing the approaching servant asked him “Are you Abu Laila?” Abu

Laila was surprised, having his name men#oned by the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) who had just come

from Makkah but knew his name. The Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) said I am Muhammad-ur-Rasulullah. “I

will have the king of Yemen’s leEer that you have for me”.

The Beloved Prophet Sayyidina Muhammad Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam was presented the leEer he read it and said,

“Congratula$ons to my pious servant Tab’a Awwal Hamiri.”

The leEer from King Hamiri stated:

“O Rasulullah, Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam I pledge my faith in you and in the Book that will be revealed to you and I

follow the path of your religion. If I am fortunate enough to see you, it will be with great pleasure. However, if this is not possi-

ble, I would request you to intercede for me and not to forget me on the Day of Judgment. I believe in your Risallah

(Prophethood). I seek your Bay’t in advance of your arrival. I swear that there is only one Allah and that Muhammad is his true

Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.” (Mizanul Adyan)

The incident is narrated in detail in ‘Al Mustazarf’, ‘Hajatullah alal Alamin’, ‘Tareekhe Damashq by Shaykh ibne Asakir’, Shaykh Ibn

My mom only had one eye. I hated her… She was

such an embarrassment. She cooked for students and

teachers to support the family.

There was this one day during elementary school

where my mom came to say hello to me. I was so em-

barrassed.

How could she do this to me? I ignored her, threw her

a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school one

of my classmates said, ‘EEEE, your mom only has

one eye!’

I wanted to bury myself. I also wanted my mom to

just disappear. I confronted her that day and said, ‘ If

you’re only gonna make me a laughing stock, why

don’t you just die?’

My mom did not respond… I didn’t even stop to think

for a second about what I had said, because I was full

of anger. I was oblivious to her feelings.

I wanted out of that house, and have nothing to do

with her. So I studied real hard, got a chance to go

abroad to study.

Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. I

had kids of my own. I was happy with my life, my

kids and the comforts. Then one day, my Mother

came to visit me. She hadn’t seen me in years and she

didn’t even meet her grandchildren.

When she stood by the door, my children laughed at

her, and I yelled at her for coming over uninvited. I

screamed at her, ‘How dare you come to my house

and scare my children!’ GET OUT OF HERE!

NOW!!!’

And to this, my mother quietly answered, ‘Oh, I’m so

sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address,’ and she

disappeared out of sight.

One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to

my house. So I lied to my wife that I was going on a

business trip. After the reunion, I went to the old

shack just out of curiosity.

My neighbors said that she died. I did not shed a sin-

gle tear. They handed me a letter that she had wanted

me to have.

‘My dearest son,

I think of you all the time. I’m sorry that I came to

your house and scared your children.

I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the

reunion. But I may not be able to even get out of bed

to see you. I’m sorry that I was a constant embarrass-

ment to you when you were growing up.

You see……..when you were very little, you got into

an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn’t

stand watching you having to grow up with one eye.

So I gave you mine.

I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new

world for me, in my place, with that eye.

With all my love to you,

Your mother.’

What to take from this:

This inspirational story is just a means of showing us

how much our mothers and parents actually love us.

This man’s entire life he disliked her mother, didn’t

listen to her, and did not treat her with kindness. He

only sees the love she had given him after she passes

away. We should never forget that our love to our par-

ents is mandatory for every believer. We must treat

them with respect, and we must obey them with love.

My mom had only one Eye

At the time of the

Prophet (PBUH),

there was a young

man named

Alqamah. He was

very diligent in obeying Allah (SWT) by engaging

in prayer and fasting and spending in charity. Then

he fell ill and his illness became serious. His wife

went to the Prophet and said, 'My husband,

Alqamah, is on his deathbed. I therefore came to

tell you, Messenger of Allah, about his condition.'

The Prophet (PBUH) sent for Ammar, Suhaib and

Bilal, and told them to go to him (Alqamah) and

have him repeat the Shahadah. They went to him

and found him in the agony of death. They asked

him to say, 'La illaha illa Allah,' but his tongue

was unable to pronounce it. At that, they came and

told the Messenger of Allah that he was unable to

repeat the Shahadah.

The Prophet asked, 'Is either of his parents alive?'

He was told, 'Messenger of Allah, his mother is,

but she is very old.'

The Prophet sent her a message that if it was con-

venient for her (if she was able to go out), she

should come to him; otherwise she should stay in

her house and the Prophet would come to her.

The Prophet's messenger came to her and informed

her of the Prophet's message. She said, 'May my

life be a ransom for him, it is my pleasure to go to

him!'

She stood up, leaning on her walking stick, and

came to the Prophet and greeted him. The Prophet

returned her greeting and said to her, 'Umm

Alqamah, tell me the truth, for otherwise Allah

Most High will reveal the truth to me! What is the

situation concerning your son, Alqamah?'

She replied, 'Messenger of Allah, he prays much,

fasts a great deal, and spends a great amount in

charity.'

The Prophet said, 'And what about yourself?'

She said, 'Messenger of Allah, I am angry with

him.'

He said, 'Why?'

She replied, 'Messenger of Allah, he has preferred

his wife to me and has disobeyed me.'

Allah's Messenger said, 'Umm Alqamah, surely

your anger has prevented Alqamah's tongue from

pronouncing the Shahadah.'

He then turned to Bilal and said, 'Bilal, go out and

collect a quantity of firewood.'

She said, 'Messenger of Allah, what do you plan to

do?' He replied, 'I will burn him in front of your

eyes.'

She said, 'Messenger of Allah, he is my son! My

heart cannot bear your burning him in front of me!'

He said, 'Umm Alqamah, Allah's punishment is

more severe and more lasting! Therefore, if you

want Allah to forgive him, be reconciled to him.

By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, the prayer,

fasting, and spending in charity (which he has

done) are of no benefit to Alqamah as long as you

are angry with him!'

Thereupon she said, 'Messenger of Allah, I call

upon Allah Most High and His angels and the

Muslims who are present to be my witnesses that I

am pleased with my son Alqamah.'

Allah's Messenger said, 'Bilal, go to him and see

whether he is now able to say, 'La illaha illa Allah'

or not. It may be that Umm Alqamah is saying

something for my sake which is not in her heart.'

Bilal went, and while entering the door he heard

Alqamah saying, 'La illaha illa Allah.'

Bilal remarked, 'It is surely true that while

Alqamah's mother was angry with him his tongue

was tied, and now that she is pleased with him his

tongue is freed.'

Alqamah died the same day. The Prophet (PBUH)

came to him and gave the order for his washing

and shrouding, and then prayed the funeral prayer

for him and buried him. He then stood by the side

of his grave and said, 'You company of Muhaji-

reen and Helpers, if anyone favors his wife over

his mother, Allah and His angels and all the people

curse him! Allah does not accept his spending (in

charity) and his uprightness unless he repents to-

ward Allah, the Glorious and Majestic, and recon-

ciles with her and attains her pleasure, because Al-

lah's pleasure consists in her pleasure and Allah's

anger consists in her anger.'

Subhan’Allah. We should never forget the im-

portance of respecting our parents. We must obey

with with patience and love because their du’a will

allow us to reach new levels in Jannah Insha’Al-

lah.
