Goals
The heart and lungs ability to fuel the body with oxygen needed by muscles so they can work for extended periods of time.
Examples: Running, swimming, cycling, think “Cardio Fridays”
Cardiovascular Endurance
The power that helps lift or carry heavy objects (usually one time).
Examples: Heavy weight training, with a few amount of repetitions, shot put, moving a couch
Muscular Strength
The ability of your muscles to perform contractions for extended periods of time
Examples: Lifting weights (high number of repetitions, low amount of weight, curl-ups, push ups, think “Tiger Challenge”
Muscular Endurance
Often overlooked, ensures the body can move through entire range of motion without pain or stiffness.
Examples: Dynamic or static stretching, yoga, gymnastics, cheerleading, dancing
Flexibility
The amount of fat compared to the amount of lean muscle in the body (percentage).
Example: BMI (height/weight), skinfold calipers, hydrostatic weighing
Think of it as the previous 4 components = body composition (the ending result)
