Release Notes

Introduction TMS Release 14.0 represents RMI’s latest effort to provide our customers with the most powerful and option-rich rail transportation software system available. Included in this release are over 400 program changes, most of them enhancements requested by you, our customers. The bullets included in this document provide you with a brief introduction to some of the more important system changes that are a part of this release. RMI will soon distribute a completely updated manual that will provide additional details for the new features that are now available.

Highlights This section offers an overview of some of the major updates included in this release. For more comprehensive instruction on how to use these features, please see the TMS User’s Guide, and, as always, you can call RMI if you have any questions about how these new features will benefit your operation.

ShipperConnect Improvements RMI continues to enhance our new ShipperConnect offering. Now in use by more than 1,200 rail shippers, ShipperConnect allows you to provide your customers with an internet-based system that enables them to • Release empty cars at their facilities • Order cars in that are held under constructive placement or storage • Mark cars for special handling such as rejects, turns, or bad orders • Order in-plant switched shipments • Reject or Bad Order Cars • Load and bill outbound loads. Effective with this new release you your customers can now enter free-form switching instructions. You can then review these instructions in our TMS Customer Order module. .

Supertrip Load Re-Write Over the past year we have completely re-written the program used to load the Supertrip database. During this re-write we supplemented the Supertrip file with dozens of new fields that can be used to analyze the traffic moving over your operation more effectively. These new fields enable you to measure the time between events more accurately and, in turn, run reports that identify moves that took longer than they should have. Some of the other Supertrip enhancements include • A tighter tie to car hire payables • A better means of balancing Supertrip revenue to actual monthly invoices • An improved tie to demurrage and storage billing • An improved method of analyzing local trips • A more complete database that is ready for use with our new report writing tools. Once the new release has been loaded on your system ,it will be necessary to completely re-build your Supertrip file. RMI’s Customer Support staff will assist you in this endeavor.

Car Order Enhancements Railroads that use our Car Order module to keep track of empty cars ordered by customers will see several powerful new features in this release. Using a new blocking table entry, TMS can now automatically assign and schedule cars to the orders. New reports and screen views are also available for you to manage your customer car orders.

Automatic Car Movements One extremely powerful option available to you with this release is the ability to use blocking tables to automatically make car movements. For example, you can use these new tables to • Automatically notify, store, or constructively place cars as they move. For example,

you can have TMS automatically place empty GATX cars from a certain series into storage once they are received in interchange. This new feature not only takes the decision making out of the operator’s hands, but also automatically generates timely TRAIN II reporting and storage revenue.

• Automatically place unit trains at the customer a fixed number of hours after receipt.

This option is useful for moves that occur frequently and reliably. • Automatically bad order cars moving to shop tracks.

TMS Release 14.0 Final Bullets

• Automatically release cars from storage or bad order as they move from storage or shop tracks.

Interchange Timing Tracking from Blocking Table You can now set up the interchange blocking table to identify unusual movement timing and set up notices based on those movements using the Interchange blocking category. For example, you can use this option to look for cars delivered to you that you have just interchanged off to another carrier. The system can also notify you when a car was misrouted back to you by a connection. You can also use this table to generate a warning when a carrier is giving you an empty that you never handled as a load. This option in particular is useful for bridge carriers that have railroads dumping empties on them.

Important Notes RMI’s Support Staff is available to assist you either by phone or in a custom training class designed to acquaint users with the features of this new release. Please give us a call at (404) 355-6734 or email us at [email protected] to learn more about the ways we can assist you to best use this powerful system. Many of the enhanced features available in this release will not appear on the menu screens until you update each user’s Soft Menus to access the new functions. Once this new release is installed, be sure to update your soft menu tables to make the new options available. When this release is installed on your operation, one of the first steps you should take is to review your Customer Profile. It now includes many new options that you can use to customize the manner in which TMS operates on your railroad. You can familiarize yourself with some of these new options by reading the Client Profile section of this document. The Blocking Rules have undergone extensive modification. RMI highly recommends that once the release is installed you review the blocking tables and familiarize yourself with the new functionality that are available. One of the most powerful of these features, the new Auto Move table, will not be available to you until you have contacted RMI’s Customer Support staff in Atlanta. We are turning this option on a road at a time to ensure proper usage and understanding.

AEI

AEI Function Enhanced with Auto-Blocking The TMS AEI module has been enhanced to allow you to use a blocking table to automatically assign an interchange road to cars moving past an AEI reader based on the criteria you specify. You can take advantage of this new feature from the Site Instructions screen. Formerly, a Y in the Create Outbound 418 field instructed TMS to generate an outbound interchange when a car went by the reader. These instructions are now handled by three separate fields: Create OB 418 Enter X to create a 418 outbound interchange

using a blocking table or enter Y to generate the 418 outbound interchange from the site reader.

Send EDI Enter Y to send the 418 via EDI.

Exclude Locos Enter Y to exclude all locomotives from the EDI 418.

New Station Summary Screen Added A new District Summary by Station screen has been added to TMS to allow you to view summary information for cars at each station. This useful function lets you quickly review the total number of cars at each station and the cars that have been released. The screen displays the number of loads, empties, and total cars at each station. It also includes the number of cars recently released and the total number of cars released at those stations. To reach this screen, take option F13 from the Select Station/Track screen. The F5=Refresh option allows you to periodically refresh the information displayed on the screen, and if you enter Y next to one of the stations, the Yard Manager screen will appear for that station. Car Order Module RMI is introducing several significant enhancements to the TMS Car Order module with this release: • The TMS Car Order module has been linked directly to ShipperConnect. Your

customers can now use car order patterns that you create in TMS to easily place orders.

• In addition to assigning cars to an order, you can now choose to plan cars not yet

interchanged to your road for an order. You can manually plan a car to an order, or you can set up the new Car Distribution blocking table to select an inbound empty car and mark it as planned for an order. When the car is actually interchanged, the blocking table will automatically assign the car to the order.

• If your customer repeatedly orders similar car types and quantities, you can create a

car order pattern to make your car order process even easier. Once you define a pattern in the car order pattern master file, you can use it to automatically populate the data fields when you create a new order. Use the new Manage Car Order Patterns screen to work with records in the file.

• Orders on the Manage Car Order screens are now highlighted in two ways. If an

order is highlighted in white, that order contains cars that have been placed on bad order. If an order is highlighted in pink, the order was placed by a shipper via ShipperConnect.

• When you create a car order, you can now specify a block to value to be applied to the waybills when the car is assigned to the order. You can also assign an RWC to generate blocking or bill an empty car to the customer placing the order. These new fields appear on the Car Order Details screens.

RWC and Waybill Changes

Option Added to Retain Pending Charges Previously, when you seeded a waybill from an RWC, all pending charges that had already been applied to that waybill were erased. Now, you can use an option on the Edit RWC Miscellaneous Info screen to instruct TMS to retain any pending charges when you seed a waybill from that RWC. Use one of the following values in the Retain Existing Pending Charges field:

A Retain all pending charges, no matter what seeding method is used.

F Retain all pending charges if you perform a full seed (F12=Seed RWC).

M Retain all pending charges if you seed charges only (F19=Seed RWC Charges).

ShipperConnect Several significant new features have been added to the TMS internet-based interface, ShipperConnect over the past few months.

Railroad Switch Instructions Added The new Instructions option allows your shippers to communicate with you directly via a Railroad Switch Instructions Entry window. From this window, shippers are able to request particular types and numbers of cars or enter free-form instructions or messages. This option is linked directly to the TMS Customer Order module, so you can monitor your shippers’ requests as they are sent. To view instructions on ShipperConnect, select View Shipping Instructions from the Instructions drop-down menu.

To submit new instructions or messages, select New Shipping Instruction from the Instructions drop-down menu. Shippers can use the Railroad Switch Instructions Entry screen to enter new car orders and instructions for the railroad. You can view these orders and messages in TMS through the customer order module.

Car Counts A new action box has been added to the main page of ShipperConnect. This new feature allows shippers to see at a glance the number of cars inbound, on hand, en route, and outbound for their facilities. In addition, the car counts are broken down according to the number of loads, empties, and hazardous loads for each type. Shippers can click on the trace type to see detail for all cars of that type, or they can actually click on the car count to see only cars in that status.

Automatic Search Feature Previously, when shippers used ShipperConnect to look at cars on or coming from the railroad, they first had to select a trace type (Inbound, On Hand, En Route), then either click the Search button to view all cars of that type, or they had to filter the search, then click the Search button. Now, when they select a trace type, the full search is immediately performed and a list of cars appears automatically. If it is necessary to filter that list, they can then enter search criteria and narrow the list by clicking the Search button. Railroads may find that some shippers with a large inventory of on hand cars may wish to turn this option off. A control feature has been provided in ShipperConnect to enable you to do so on a case-by-case basis.

TMS Release 14.0 Final Bullets

New Outbound Billed/Outbound Not Billed Search Previously, when equipment left a shipper’s facility, it was no longer visible in ShipperConnect. Effective with this release, we have addressed this with two new search options: Outbound Billed and Outbound Not Billed. Outbound Billed includes any equipment that has left the customer’s track and for which the customer is now listed as the Shipper on the waybill. Outbound Not Billed includes any equipment that has left the customer’s track and for which the customer is still listed as the Consignee on the waybill. Shippers can select either of these options from the action box on the ShipperConnect main page or the Current Shipments drop-down menu.

TMS Release 14.0 Final Bullets

When one of these selections is made, either the Outbound Billed or the Outbound Not Billed window appears.

From this window, a shipper can refine the search using the filter options in the Search box at the top of the window, or can perform any of the following three actions on the cars listed:

• Release Empty • Release and Reload • Create Bill.

Automatic Blocking

Automatic Movements Blocking Category Added One extremely powerful option available to you with this release is the ability to use blocking tables to automatically make car movements. For example, you can use these new tables to • Automatically notify, store, or constructively place cars as they move. • Automatically place unit trains at the customer a fixed number of hours after receipt.

This option is useful for moves that occur frequently and reliably. • Automatically bad order cars moving to shop tracks. • Automatically release cars from storage or bad order as they move from storage or

shop tracks. The following sample screens show a blocking rule record that will automatically generate a constructive placement for loaded cars received for a particular customer at a particular station. When you use the automatic movements blocking feature, you must first indicate the movement criteria that will trigger the rule: RSXQPVR LIRC PMT:Enter Movement (Move) RMIJWA1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Automatic Moves ADD ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ FROM: Activity Indicator Station Beginning/Ending Track / TO: Move Type ICHR Station CHGO Beginning/Ending Track / F3=Exit

In the example, the rule will be run on cars with inbound interchange moves to be interchanged at Chicago.

You must specify selection fields to identify the rule and define matching criteria: RSTXPVR LIRC Edit Rule - General Selection ZZRMITWDA1 Automatic Moves ADD DESC: CARGIL AUTO CONSTRUCTIVE PLACEMT CLASS ACTIVE/INACTIVE A Trans Method R L/E L Orig City/St FSAC Car Range: EIF: Dest City/St FSAC Rte Exact Rte Match Prior Rd/Rte Junct Next Rd/Rte Final Rd/Rte Fleet Name Car Owner Car Hire Grp Reclaim Cd Car Hire Pool STCC to Cmdty Grp Prod Grp Car Type to Car Kind Car Grp Frgn/Pvt PP/CC Early Warn: Ind Nbr Special Hand Train Customer 1 Desc Customer 2 Desc Customer 3 Desc Customer 4 Desc Customer 5 Desc Block To CARGIL CHI Traffic Type Activity Unit/Multi PageDn=Apply F1=Admin F3=Exit F18=EIF F19=Car Ranges

In the example, loaded equipment blocked to Cargil Chicago will be selected. Finally, you must specify application fields to identify the action to be taken with any matching records: RSXIPVR LIRC Assign Auto Movement ZZRMITWDA1 Record Auto Event to Queue E (E=Error, A=All, ' '=None) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Automatic Moves CARGIL AUTO CONSTRUCTIVE PLACEMT ADD ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Advance* Charge NT Hrs Min Station Track Customer Code Cd Notify . . . TMS Release 14.0 Final Bullets

In the example, any matching cars will be constructively placed 30 minutes after they are received in interchange. For example, if the matching car is received at 12:00, the constructive placement time written in history will be 12:30. By specifying M in the NT Code field, TMS will use the time of the move (12:00 in the example) rather than the actual time the record was entered for the constructive placement time. More examples are available in the TMS User’s Guide. The auto move feature is both complex and powerful, and you should be completely familiar with how it is used before you attempt to set up these tables. RMI will activate this feature one road at a time after the release is installed. Once you have TMS 14.0 loaded on your system, contact RMI Support to set up this powerful new feature.

Interchange Timing Tracking Available You can now set up the interchange blocking table to identify unusual movement timing and set up notices based on those movements using Interchange blocking. For example, you can use this option to look for cars delivered to you that you have just interchanged off to another carrier. The system can also notify you when a car was misrouted back to you by a connection. You can also use this table to generate a warning when a carrier gives you an empty that you never handled as a load. This option is particularly useful for bridge carriers that have railroads dumping empties on them. To take advantage of this feature, take option F21=Interchange Timing from the Edit Rule - General Selection screen, then set up acceptable limits for various movement combinations on the Edit Rule Interchange Timing screen: RSW4PVR LIRC Edit Rule Interchange Timing RMIJWA1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Interchange ADD ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ NOTE: These selects are used to establish reject limits based on cars being received in interchange when compared to the last delivery from your road. Page 45 of 49

TMS Release 14.0 Final Bullets

In the example, all four timing fields are set to 12 hours. A match is made if any car was received in interchange within 12 hours of its last delivery. The Return as Empty and last ICHD not Loaded field is set to Y. This tells TMS that a match should be made if a road is sending you an empty car and the last time you delivered that car to them it was not loaded. This field enables you to quickly reject cars given to you for a bridge move in which you did not handle the car as a load. You can then set the application fields to specify any action to be taken with any matching records: RSTJPVR LIRC Edit Rule - Apply RMIJWA1 Interchange ADD DESCRIPTION: MS SETBACK CARS RWC: Load. . . . Car Distribution Blocking Category Added The new Car Distribution blocking table gives you a quick way to automatically block empty cars for loading on the railroad. You can use this table with the Car Order module to automatically assign cars to an order. To use this feature, simply select cars using the standard Edit Rule – General Selection fields, then specify how to apply the field using the Edit Rule – Apply screen: RSTJPVR LIRC Edit Rule - Apply ZZRMITWDA1 Empty Car Distribution CHANGE DESCRIPTION: Empty Equipped Boxcars Chicago Car Order Applied: RWC: Load. . . . Demurrage and Storage Blocking Added New blocking tables have been added to TMS to help you handle special demurrage or storage charges. You will normally use these tables to override the demurrage/storage code or customer normally assigned to a car. Each of the tables require you to complete an Assign Rule screen to specify Loaded/Unloaded or Empty/Loaded status and rule order and a standard Edit Rule – Selection screen to specify which cars should be selected for the rule. You must also complete an Edit Rule – Apply screen for each to specify how demurrage should be applied to selected cars: RSUDPVR LIRC Apply Blocking ZZRMITWDA1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Demurrage Load ADD Description: CORN CAR LOADING DEMURRAGE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Demurrage Code to Apply: Exclude from Demurrage: (A=All,P=Private Cars,R=Railroad Cars) (S=System Cars,*Blank=None) Demurrage Customer: D=Delete F3=Exit F10=Update F11=Delete Rule F12=Return to Selection
