A message from your TMS JCL President-Kaiya Massey

What is JCL? JCL stands for Junior Classical League. Our purpose is to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of Classical antiquity. To learn more go to www. Njcl.org

Hi guys! As you all probably already know the JCL is going

through a bit of a transition period this year, however with the capable guidance of Dr. Garvey, and the eagerness of Ms. Young the JCL will not miss a beat this year, and we will continue to move forward. We as always have big goals, as we hope to join our JCL friends in the state of Arizona for their fall forum convention this coming November, in addition this year we will be making the trek up to Reno to attend the Nevada State convention at Sage Ridge School. Aside from that we have various community service events such as attending the JDRF walk with NHS as well as our ongoing project which is the creation of crib cards for the teeny tiny babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Stay tuned for more community service as we are aiming to have a monthly service project starting in October.

Now that the business side is out of the way I want to address all of you guys. First off, I want to say thank you to each and every one of you for everything and anything you do for JCL, whether you are our academic powerhouse, or you are the loudest at spirit, or the ludi champion, you are vital to what we are striving for. At the end of the day, all the nerdiness aside, we are looking for passion and heart, and all of you have that. I am so thankful to get to work with each and everyone of you and I am doing everything I can to make JCL all that it has been and more. Thank you for your patience and support as we are coming off of this transition, and I hope to see you all at every JCL event. Secondly I want to remind you all of this year’s quote for NJCL as I feel it is quite fitting “tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito.” (Yield not to misfortunes, but advance all the more boldly against them.) - Vergil. It is not in our nature to shy away from a challenge, so with that I challenge all of you to be positive, whether it be in regards to Latin in JCL or anything else, I challenge you all to attack every and any obstacles. I know it is scary, and I know it is hard, but I know you all can do anything if you set your mind to it.

I look forward to a very bright, eventful, and exciting year for all of you, If you ever have any questions or concerns, be they about JCL or just life in general, feel free to talk to me at any time, I am always available.

All My Love, Kaiya M. - TMS JCL President
