Though the series has since been moved online, there still a great deal of good acting and a great plot with unpredictable twists . It follows a Russian intelligence officer who approaches New York CIA station chief Sam Luttrell (Kenneth Choi), with information relating to an SVR plot to destroy critical infrastruc- ture within the US. RITA Ora’s latest collabo- ration with Chris Brown has us convinced that Breezy has found himself a new flame. The chemistry in their Body On Me video is undeniable and we’re not sure who we envy more – Rita or Chris? BIRDMAN’S lawsuit saga continues! The Cash Money CEO faces further litigation charges, this time by producer DVLP, who claims that Birdman owes him R2.6m from songs he produced for Lil Wayne. TV TALK show host Khanyi Mbau just finished filming Happiness is a Four-Letter Word. The movie adaptation of the multi-award winning novel tells a story of three friends in pursuit of happiness while maintaining images of success and acceptability. FROM the outset of his pursuit of a solo career, since emerging from the independ- ent record label Family Tree, owned by local hit-maker Cassper Nyovest, Pretoria-based rapper Donovan Chad Mansor, better known as Chad Da Don, has gone ahead in leaps and bounds in SA’s urban scene, proving that rap culture at large is truly a colour-blind phenomenon. Chad’s motswako hip hop flair, fused with his mellow and soulful beats, has been found to be a winning formula that quickly dispels any degree of doubt in his lyrical ability as a white rapper. Having refined his musical rep- ertoire by learning from the greatest lyricists and producers on our continent, Chad’s fear- lessness has set the precedent for pioneering a fresh forward-thinking characterisation of what it means to truly embody a rapper. Although his breakout single Hola was instrumental in getting him on our radar, Chad explains that, after most people heard the track, they were left flabbergasted to discover that he, in fact, isn’t black. “Many of my fans never even knew that I was white when they first heard me on Hola,” Chad says. Chad has since proven his versatility through his latest collaborations with artists among the likes of Locnville, Fistaz Mixwell, Riky Rick, Anatii, Chad Saaiman as well as Tsholofelo award-winning hip hop heavy- weight Cassper Nyovest. Set to take over the game with his latest single EFT, which was produced by Brian Siko, most known for his work on Jay Z and Beyoncé’s megahit Drunk in Love, TRACE spoke with Da Don himself in an exclusive interview. What have been the biggest chal- lenges you’ve faced as a white rapper in South Africa? Being a white rapper in this industry means that your lyrical content needs to be superb, your flow has to move mountains and you have to consistently prove your worth on every level. The challenge is to keep on improving and maintaining momentum. How do you deal with the adversity from those who doubt your lyrical ability merely because of the colour of your skin? Eminem is one of the greatest rappers to ever do it and he had a tremendous influence on my decision to take this career seriously. Haters are my motivators. What has been your most worthwhile observation from working alongside SA’s hip hop royalty? Through working with these hard-working artists, I’ve learnt that, no matter the chal- lenge, it’s important to always stay unique and to not follow what everyone else is doing. I’ve learnt that staying focused and keeping my mind set on the desired goal is crucial in this industry. Tell us about how your latest club banger EFT came into fruition? Brian Soko and I became friends two years ago while he was in South Africa and we managed to maintain the relationship once he’d returned to the States. On his last trip here, we got in studio and made magic! EFT is about the common man working 9-5 waiting on his month-end pay cheque. What do you want listeners to take away from EFT? The message is simple, work hard and get paid. The universal hustle we all aspire to. Which collaboration has been your most memorable yet? Why? It would have to be working with Locnville on Wasted. The creativity was just amazing. I’ve also had amazing studio sessions with my brother Anatii, whom I’ve known since Grade 2. He features on my next single called Sorry Mum I’m Moving Out. Are there any international acts you’ve set your collaborative sights on? Definitely Eminem! What message do you have for aspir- ing musicians who are trying to make it big in this tough industry? Work as hard as you can! Believe and have faith in God. Make sure this is what you really want and if it is then give it your all. Local lyricist Chad Da Don chats exclusively with TRACE about his soaring rise to hip hop acclaim and what influence Eminem had on his career Chad the game-changer ON OCTOBER 17, Grammy award-winning soulful songstress Christina Aguilera will take to the Ticket- Pro Dome stage in Northgate as the headlining act of the second annual South African of the Year Awards, (SATY) where SA’s crème de la crème will be honoured in a star-stud- ded ceremony hosted by ANN7. The television star and Can- dyman singer, who’s set to share the stage with Wiggle hit maker Jason Derulo, first rose to stardom with her hit debut single, Genie In A Bot- tle in 1999. Agu- ilera dropped a string of chart- topping tracks soon thereafter, eventually making her way onto the small screen as a judge on the top-rated US reality television singing competition The Voice. Celebrating the sheer prominence of South Africans who are excelling in their respective fields, this year’s SATY Awards will honour various individuals in a number of categories ranging from business, sport, and entertainment to civil society and entrepreneurs. Aguilera to take Jozi by storm SEAexpo makes a return ON SEPTEMBER 4 and 5, Museum Africa in New- town will bring art, performance and entertainment together for the second annual Showbiz Entertain- ment and Arts Expo (SEAexpo) 2015.
