Design a poster for an upcoming event. Type is the only visual element you may use for this design. A grayscale version is required. The objective of this project is to demonstrate your understanding of design principles, grid and typography.

Adobe Program: InDesign

This project allowed me to focus on just using type as a tool for design, which provided me with the opprotunity to investigate the beauty of typography and utilize it in a way that communicates my message. I enjoyed using vector files of type to create fruit/vegetable shapes while considering the important role of white space and color.

Branding Design

Design or redesign a visual identity for your organization or campaign. The visual identity will be unique and properly integrate your organization’s core characters and branding strategy. Your branding design needs to be displayed in product mockups such as stationary, mugs and clothing. The objective of this project is to demonstrate your skills in vector imaging, use of visual languages, and understanding of visual strategy.

Adobe Programs: Photoshop and Illustrator

I enjoyed re-designing the logo for my organization. I used my branding research project for inspiration into how other organizations visually showcase a mission that promotes partnership. I chose vector shapes that illustrate connectedness and the warmth of Latin culture.

Draft a prototype for a new or existing website or App. It includes one landing page and one content page (or internal page). The design will showcase consistent and appropriate typography, color scheme and visual branding strategy. The objective of this project is to demonstrate your understanding of digital environment and web/mobile audience.

Adobe Programs: Photoshop

I enjoyed re-designing the website of my organization, focusing on highlighting impactful photos and statistics in order to grab the reader and make them want to learn more.

This is a culminating project that not only challenges you on typography, color, branding and interface designs, but also presents you an opportunity to revamp traditional, formal documents with the power of visuals. You will learn and create statistical charts and tables, edit and place photographs, and incorporate branding strategies in your multi-page document (print or digital).

Executive Report

This project challenged me to create a multi-page report using InDesign, which was an opportunity for me to pull together all of the lessons we have learned in class. I made conscious decisions around the choice of typography, color palette, composition, alignment, and tone as I pulled together the elements of the report. I enjoyed designing a consistent layout across multiple pages that reflected the brand of my organization. I utilized real photos and data in order to bring my report, infographic, and charts to life. I chose imagery that looked professional yet impactful given the donor audience of the report. I chose shades of blues, based on an already existing color palette, to portray a sense of trustworthiness and neutrality. At first, I struggled with the use of white space and not being tempted to try and add too much text onto each page. Better utilizing white space and large full-bleed photos created a highly visual report that will hopefully attract donors to my organization’s program. I was not aware of the capabilities to create charts in Illustrator or to create master pages and page numbers in InDesign. Gaining the confidence to tackle a larger design project was beneficial for my professional growth and now I will definitely choose InDesign over PowerPoint in the future!
