Cursillo Newsletter December 2016 1 FROM THE LAY DIRECTOR Our new year has now begun, with the arrival of the Advent season on November 27, 2016. Advent means “coming”. There are three meanings of the “coming of Jesus”: To celebrate that Jesus came into the world as a baby at Christmas. To remember that Jesus came into your life and filled your heart with love. Anticipating that Jesus will return to the world as our Savior. During Advent we are to prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Jesus. So, during this Advent season, take some time to think about all three meanings of the coming of Jesus. First, we prepare for celebrating Christmas. In our parishes we light the Advent candles, we pray together, we sing Christmas carols; and at home we decorate a Christmas tree, we put up a manger scene, we send Christmas cards, and we bring gifts to our loved ones, like the wise men brought gifts to Jesus. Christmas is a special time to show our love for others. Second, we remember when Jesus came into our lives. We remember how loved that made us feel. Jesus told us to love one another as He loves us, unconditionally. Attending a Cursillo weekend is one way to experience the love of Jesus. Sponsoring a pilgrim to attend a Cursillo weekend is our way of sharing the love of Jesus with the pilgrim we sponsor. Working on the Team for Christ at a Cursillo weekend is our way to show the love of Jesus to the pilgrims. It is amazing to watch as the pilgrims experience and begin to really understand just how much they are loved, by Jesus and by complete strangers. The pilgrims become part of a family, the family of Jesus. Third, we know that Jesus will come again. We live our lives in anticipation of His return. We continue to love one another as Jesus loved us. Through the love of Jesus we were given His understanding, forgiveness, and hope. Be- cause He lived as one of us, He understands the challenges we face. By His willingness to die on the cross for our sins, He gave us forgiveness of our sins. And, He gave us the rainbow as a reminder of hope for the future. When we love one another like Jesus loves us, we need to understand the other person, we need to forgive, and we need to provide hope. During this Advent season, prepare your hearts and minds for the coming of Jesus. FROM THE LAY DIRECTOR

Our new year has now begun, with the arrival of the Advent season on November 27, 2016. Advent means coming.

There are three meanings of the coming of Jesus:

To celebrate that Jesus came into the world as a baby at Christmas.

To remember that Jesus came into your life and filled your heart with love.

Anticipating that Jesus will return to the world as our Savior.

During Advent we are to prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Jesus. So, during this Advent season, take

some time to think about all three meanings of the coming of Jesus.

First, we prepare for celebrating Christmas. In our parishes we light the Advent candles, we pray together, we sing

Christmas carols; and at home we decorate a Christmas tree, we put up a manger scene, we send Christmas cards,

and we bring gifts to our loved ones, like the wise men brought gifts to Jesus. Christmas is a special time to show our

    love for others.

Second, we remember when Jesus came into our lives. We remember how loved that made us feel. Jesus told us to

love one another as He loves us, unconditionally. Attending a Cursillo weekend is one way to experience the love of

Jesus. Sponsoring a pilgrim to attend a Cursillo weekend is our way of sharing the love of Jesus with the pilgrim we

sponsor. Working on the Team for Christ at a Cursillo weekend is our way to show the love of Jesus to the pilgrims.

It is amazing to watch as the pilgrims experience and begin to really understand just how much they are loved, by

Jesus and by complete strangers. The pilgrims become part of a family, the family of Jesus.

Third, we know that Jesus will come again. We live our lives in anticipation of His return. We continue to love one

another as Jesus loved us. Through the love of Jesus we were given His understanding, forgiveness, and hope. Be-

cause He lived as one of us, He understands the challenges we face. By His willingness to die on the cross for our

sins, He gave us forgiveness of our sins. And, He gave us the rainbow as a reminder of hope for the future. When we

love one another like Jesus loves us, we need to understand the other person, we need to forgive, and we need to

    provide hope.

During this Advent season, prepare your hearts and minds for the coming of Jesus.

    Merry Christmas,

    Karen Jones, Lay Director

Be Still and Know that I Am God

    February 9 - 12th, 2017

Team #135 began with its Team Leadership Meeting on November 12th at St. Johns

Tampa. December 10th brought the first Team Meeting at DaySpring Conference Cen-

ter in the new facility. We are truly blessed and excited to be the first Cursillo team to

venture forth in the new, and I mean really new pavilion. God is good.

The team is just about full. We need 1 female Cha Cha. We would love to have a newbie

come forward. Part of our mission is to create leadership and grow Cursillo. So if you

have never worked a team before, send me your application, Id love to hear from you.

With less than 60 days to kick off, 22 applications have been received from potential

pilgrims and invitations will be sent shortly. We are receiving applications daily. Please

    check the website for additions.

Please continue to keep the team and pilgrims in your prayers

FROM SERVANT TEAM - CURSILLO #135

There are many time slots available on the Prayer Vigil during each of the four days of Cursillo

#135. Please sign up for these open times and encourage other Cursillistas at your parish church

to sign up for their prayer times. Go to the www.cursilloswfla.org website and drop Nancy Kinney

an email or give her a call 727-375-2282.

The usual practice for your scheduled hour of prayer is to pray for the Pilgrims, the Team Mem-

bers and for Christ to be among and guiding the weekend of Cursillo #135. At the end of your

prayer hour, please phone or email the next person on the Prayer Vigil schedule to alert them that

their prayer hour for Cursillo #135 Vigil is now beginning. It is appropriate and usual that you in-

clude in your notice to them the phrase, Christ is counting on you.

Drinks are needed for the weekend. Soft drinks and large supplies of water are welcome as your

palanca. Smaller bottles of water are encouraged as many people leave water bottles half filled.

Beverages can be given to any team member or Sponsor for delivery to Dayspring. Green palanca

is also welcome, and that can go to Arlene Maloney, the weekends Bell Ringer.

All placemats are out for coloring and we thank you for taking them. Please be sure to return them

promptly. AND remember, no colored markers. Only crayons should be used as the colored mark-

ers run on the tables when they get wet. Please return them to Nancy Kinney.

out shortly . If you know of a good candidate for Cursillo, dont wait too long. We are less than 60

days away. Please keep the Cursillo #135 Pilgrims in your prayers AND it is not too early to begin

writing palanca. Watch the web site for the upcoming Pilgrim List as it unfolds and the Team List is
