PLEASE NOTE: I have been adapting the design while making it. There was quite a lot of jumping ‘from place to

place’ involved while I worked out the design for you. But….it’s all mainly as I am still new to beading and

soutache myself. But I love to challenge myself so here it is ;)

Hope you will enjoy making my little design inspired by SPRING

P.s. It’s totally up to you which piece you choose to start with.

SOUTACHE PIECES.

We will start to make the necklace by gluing cabochons to the felt – I used pink felt but you can use any colour

you think will work the best with the project.

Prepare:

2 x round acrylic cabochons

3 x oval acrylic cabochons

2 x crystal flat back 7mm Indian pink

– glue them to the felt and cut around (you can leave about 1 or 2 mm left around the cabochon)

PIECE no 1

step 1.

Prepare 3 pieces of mauve soutache cord about 18 cm.

each soutache thread has 2 different sides – on one side the groove is more visible than on the other.

Make sure you that all of your threads have the same side up and braid goes in same direction.

Now put threads together and measure around the cabochon by placing cabochon in centre of the threads

and wrapping them around it. Red pin shows where we start sewing.

TIP: I found dressmaker pins very useful and helpful while keeping the shape.

Put the cabochon aside and start sewing all soutache threads together, keeping the curve as it should be

around the bead.

Make sure you sew in the middle of the soutache, where groove is and keep checking, that needle goes

through all soutache threads at the same spot.

Make sure you check from time to time if braids are shaped correctly by placing cabochon in the middle of the

braids, till you’ve made it around the whole bead.

This is a spot, where we’ll sew the threads together. Place bead in the middle of your soutache braids and sew

threads together.

Secure ends with glue or tape.

step 2.

Cut 14cm each - 2x rose and 1x dragon green soutache (you can also prepare24cm long brown one and start

sewing them all together just remember to not sew brown one on whole length)

Make a loop just big enough to surround end of first piece. Sew 2x rose and 1x green soutache together

Sew or glue them to the back (I decided to glue it, it’s all up to you which option you choose)

Step 3.

Grab 26cm long brown soutache braid (if you haven’t done it yet) and sew it to just made loop but remember

to carry on until middle of the loop only

Make loop for Swarovski faceted drop pendant.

Sew brown soutache braids to made in step 1 and 2 pieces in places as shown below

Step 4.

Grab Swarovski flat back Indian pink and sew brown soutache to it creating next loop.

Step 5.

Sew brown soutache to the back of piece creating shape as below on the picture

Secure ends

Step 6.

Repeat all steps for PIECE 1 making the same mirrored piece.

PIECE 2

Step 1

Cut 30-32cm of 1x Linen and 2 x Mauve soutache braid. Repeat step 1 from previous piece.

Step 2.

Grab 3 braids and create little loop for Czech fire polished rose 4mm.

Remember make sure you check from time to time if braids are shaped correctly by placing bead in the middle

of the braid.

Remember: This time we won’t close loop behind the piece.

Sew braids to the side of our piece in the place shown below

Step 3. Create little loop

Now, sew it at the back of the piece

Step 4.

Make little loop on side of previous one

This is how piece should look like now.

Cut and secure ends.

Step 5.

We are going to work with other 3 braids.

Grab 3 braids and shape them around loop no 1 (pointed by yellow arrow)

STEP 6

Grab 3x Toho 11 rainbow ballerina and sew them in between the loop and 3 braids as shown below.

STEP 7

Make little loop to hide 3 braids at the back of piece.

This is how our piece looks now, let’s add little bit of colour to it.

STEP 8.

Cut about 12 cm mauve and linen soutache cord.

Surround Swarovski drop by mauve soutache cord (you can also add linen one at this stage – I wasn’t sure if it

all will work together so started from 1 braid), then sowed it together,

Add linen soutache braid, if you haven’t done it yet and sew braids together. Cut and secure the ends.

STEP 9.

Grab piece made in steps 1-7 and step 8 them sew them together.

STEP 10

cut 2 little pieces of brown and dragon green soutache cords and create 2 little loops, pin them to the back of

made piece.

Sew them to the piece.

Cut and secure the ends.

PIECE 3

Step 1 Cut 28cm x 3 of mauve soutache cord and wrap it around oval acrylic cabochon.

Sew braids together in shown below place

Step 2

Shape 3 loops of different sizes using 3 braids on the right side and sew them to the back.

Step 3

Grab Swarovski crystal faceted round fuchsia and make the loop around it using 3 left braids.

Sew braids together keeping the shape of Swarovski crystal braids until the point shown on picture below

Step 4

Use last 3rd braid to make another loop for Swarovski drop.

Sew braids in place shown on picture below

Step 5

Create last tiny loop to finish piece and hide end of 3rd soutache braid

we have piece 3 ready.

PIECE 4

Step 1

repeat step 1 from piece 1 working with oval cabochon. This time we won’t sew braids together to close the

loop around bead

Step 2

decorate piece with 1 swarowski crystal faceted round fuchsia and 5 toho size 11 inside colour crystal/fuchsia

lined

Yellow arrows – places where we sew swarowski bead to

Green arrows – places where we sew toho 11

Step 3.

Start adding 5x toho 11 in between 3 braids on left and right side. I usually use brick stich to do it but it’s up to

you how you add seed beads.

Add 3 beads sewing all braids together.

Step 4.

Add last 2 seed beads surrounding them only with 1 braid which we taken from right side.

Make a loop using 3 braids on left side and sew them to place shown below

Step 5.

Create little loop at the end, secure ends.

Step 6

Carry on adding seed beads until you reach loop which we made in step 5.

Step 7

Create little loop at the end and hide soutache braid behind the piece.

Step 8.

Grab 2 soutache braids from right side and create loop, as shown below

Step 9.

Grab Swarovski drop and sew it in between seed beaded side and loop made in step 8.

Step 10.

Add some colour to the piece.

It’s totally up to you how you decorate your piece.

I freestyled and went with 15 green toho seed beads.

I decided to create them in the shape of a leaf. See pictures on next page.

CENTRAL PIECE

Cut 3 x 26cm Mauve soutache braids. Repeat step one from piece 1 to surround Swarovski crystal with

soutache braid.

Step 2.

Add Swarovski round faceted crystal and 11 toho inside colours crystal/fuchsia lined bead. Arrows will show

you where to point your needle while sewing them to the piece.

Step 3.

Make loop to surround Czech fire polished 4mm rose. Same way as previous pieces.

Step 4

Make another loop and hide braids behind piece. Cut and secure ends. Then repeat on the other side.

To create little piece like below:

Step 5.

Grab about 16 cm brown soutache braid and sew it to little loop then create next tiny loop.

Repeat on the other side.

Step 6.

To add little bit more life to the piece add green soutache braid.

Create little loop and sew it below brown loop.

If you want you can finish piece now, but if you feel like you need to add little bit more green add size 15 toho

green seed beads to create ‘leaves’

- 3beads on the top between loops surrounding Czech fire polished rose

- 3 on the right side below green loop.

And few more on left side. I made 2 rows

All main pieces are ready

EXTRA LITTLE PIECES if you feel like your project needs more ‘life’

Piece no 1 little ‘flower’

Grab brown soutache cord and create little loop – little bit bigger than Swarovski drop

Grab Swarovski drop and mauve soutache cord. Sew it together with brown cord.

Add toho sieze 11 rounds seed beads inside colour crystal/fuchsia lined sewing them to mauve soutache as

shown below.

Then grab toho size 15 green and sew them to brown cord creating leaf shape.

Piece no 2’ leaf’

simply grab 2 pieces of dragon green soutache cord.

Fold them in half then sew together at the end (yellow arrow)

carry on for few mm then start sewing them shaping them into leaf.

It’s totally up to you how big piece you want to create

FLOWERS,

make 10 big petals and 5 little ones plus 2 green leafs

- brick stitch -

you will need:

A) Toho size 11 round seed beads inside-colour crystal/fuchsia lined

B) Toho size 11 round seed beads Rainbow Ballerina Pink x 4

Swarovski Crystal Flat Backs 7mm Indian Pink x 2

Swarovski Crystal Flat Backs 7mm Light Rose x 1

Glue and optionally glitter.

It’s totally up to you where you start your work. You can make petals for flowers first or in the meantime it

doesn’t matter. Ideally you need to make 10 big petals and 5 little ones. I made them using brick stitch.

GREEN leafs

I made 2 little leafs which you can see behind main piece following tutorial found on page below:

I decided not to connect sides together and leave them as separate pieces creating 2 thin leafs.

LITTLE PETALS

It was my first attempt to make beaded flowers. I had no idea how to connect petals so I decided to glue them

to felt then sprinkle it with glitter (I hate when glue is visible in my projects)

On the top of it you can place Swarovski Crystal Flat backs (I used Indian pink for big flowers and light rose for

little one)

Please note – this picture was made while trying to decide how I want to place my pieces. More about it on

next page.

GETTING IT ALL TOGETHER.

I decided to place my soutache pieces on white steel memory wire cord which I wrapped using brown

soutache cord.

To do it, simply glue end of soutache cord and start wrapping around wire. You can use glue form time to time

to make sure cord sticks nicely to the wire.

Now it’s time to use little bit of creativity and sew soutache pieces to the necklace base.

I decided to place my pieces in the order shown below.

Simply start sewing pieces together.

Then place them on necklace base and start sewing them to it.

At the end sew or glue felt to the back of the pieces to hide ends of soutache cords.
