    THE TANNIC ACID PRESENT IN TEA LEAES IS PRECIPITATED AS

    CALCIUM TANNATE BY TREATMENT OF AUEOUS SOLUTION OF

    TEA WITH CALCIUM CARBONATE. CALCIUM TENNATE IS THENHYDROLYSED WITH CONC. HCI AND RECRYSTALLISED FROM

    WATER.

    TEA CONTAINS CAFFEINE UP TO . IT IS MORE SOLUBLE IN

    CHLOROFORM THAN IN WATER. THEREFORE2 IT CAN BE

    EXTRACTED FROM THE AUEOUS EXTRACT OF THE TEA WITH

    CHOLROFOAM. HOWEER2 TANNIC ACID AND LEAD INTERFERE

    IN THE EXTRACTION AND2 THEREFORE2 THESE HAE TO BE

    REMOED FIRST.

    TANNIC ACID IS REMOED AS CALCIUM TANNATE AND LEAD AS

    LEAD SULPHATE. AFTER THE REMOAL OF TANNIC ACID AND

    LEAD2 CAFFINE IS EXTRACTED WITH CHLOROFOAM.
