Though there have been studies and polls conducted on the topic of workplace flirting, results conflict as to whether or not it's a good idea.

On one hand, flirting with a coworker can be a dangerous game. If you make the wrong move or come on too strong, you could make things awkward or face professional reprimand.

On the other hand, some workplaces are more relaxed and allow for a natural flow of conversation and subtle, harmless flirtation. It's all about doing it appropriately.

You spend much of your waking life at work, which means that it can be tough to avoid developing feelings for a coworker despite your best efforts. If you've got an office crush, it could be worthwhile to pursue it.

Be mindful, though: you won't really be able to avoid your crush if things don't work out. You'll still have to work together.

If you're going to flirt at work, you've got to be classy, respectful, and careful about it. If you can do that, office flirting just might work out for you!

Do spend time getting to know your crush before you get flirty. This is especially important in an office, as being too flirtatious right away could brand you in a bad light.

Don't flirt with someone you know is married or in a relationship. It may seem harmless, but you don't want to be that kind of guy.

Do maintain relaxed and open body language. Sometimes the way you hold yourself speaks louder than your words. Your crush will pick up on it and feel more comfortable with you.

Don't brag about yourself too much. You want to be confident while flirting, but you don't want to come across as arrogant. You don't need to sell yourself too hard—just be you.

Do notice the little things. Did your crush get a haircut? Is she wearing something you think looks nice? Small observations and compliments show that you pay attention, which can be very flattering.

Do use humor to your advantage. When asked what they look for in a partner, many people say they want someone who makes them laugh. So, make your crush laugh! Make sure to stick to inoffensive, work-appropriate humor.

Don't flirt with your boss or other superiors. Not only is it a potential conflict of interest, but it doesn't bode well for your career. You could be seen as a “suck-up” who's simply trying to get on the boss's good side for professional advancement.

If a coworker regularly goes out of her way to talk to you and/or do nice things for you, it could be a subtle sign that she's interested in more than a standard friendship.

When you discuss common interests, does she often suggest that you should hang out and do an activity together outside of work? Your coworker could be suggesting a desire to get to know you more personally.

If your coworker tends to make “adult” jokes around you, it could be a sign of interest—especially if the joke is about the two of you. It's not necessarily work-appropriate to make such jokes in return, but their joke could be a signal to you nevertheless.

If a coworker teases you in a sarcastic way without actually being mean, it could be classic schoolyard flirtation. It's silly, but even as adults, sometimes “you're weird” really means “you're cute.”

Part of flirting is looking good for your office crush. For men, accessories like fine leather and metal or beaded stone bracelets can add a touch of modern style.

Similarly, a finely-crafted men's necklace can really pull an outfit together, broadcasting to your crush that you're a fashionable, put-together guy.
