to form transformative partnerships...

Wednesday 11h July 2018 Trustee Chair 2018-19 About a year and a half after I joined my Rotary club, I terminated my membership because I missed four consecutive meetings. That was the rule at the time. Ill freely admit – I didnt care much for the food or the weekly meetings. I didnt think they were the best use of my time. But the real issue was that I wasnt engaged. I had no role, I had no reason to be a mem- ber, and I didnt need to go to a luncheon meeting every week that appeared to of- fer me absolutely nothing. But then my incoming club president asked me to chair the clubs Rotary Foun- dation committee for the next Rotary year. That was a turning point for me, and the rest is history. I want you all to think about engaging those members who have their doubts about Rotary. In 2018-19, I need your help. I want you to join me in focusing on our four core goals for the Foundation. First, the No. 1 priority of our entire or- ganization (and this wont be a surprise) is ending polio. We must fulfill our prom- ise of a polio-free world to every child. Second, we must increase the sustainabil- ity of our service efforts within the six areas of focus. This means conducting thorough needs assessments. It means working with communities to see what they really need and get them to buy in – to own the project and measure it over time. Our third priority is to encourage districts to use all their District Designated Funds. Whether through district grants, global grants, or PolioPlus, there are many ways to form transformative partnerships and put these funds to work. Finally, we choose to build our Rotary Foundation Endowment to $2.025 billion by 2025. Our comprehensive fundraising goal for the year is $380 million. These funds will allow us to continue the life- changing programs that Rotary members undertake every day. But we each need to think about our Rotary legacy. The En- dowment is our future. The 4 Way Test Of the things, we think, say or do: 1. Is it the truth 2. Is it fair to all concerned 3. Will it build good will & better friend-

ships 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned

Object of Rotary The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of wor-thy enterprise and in particular to encour-age and foster:

First: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

Second: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve;

Third: The applications of the ideal of ser-vice in each Rotarian’s personal busi-ness and community life;

Fourth: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

President’s Note Dear members, I hope this greeting finds you well. I wish to thank Gula-ma Buddies for ac-cepting to lead the fel-lowships for the whole month of July instead of leading it for one

buddy goup. Our focus is still the same, service. We have secured a partner, The Re-al Uganda, an NGO based in Mukono, who will help to mentor young people/rotaractors in business management and work ethics. All Star President Rct. Kim has already benefitted from this opportunity to-wards setting up his tourism busi-ness, Ecstasy Ventures. Let us mo-bilize our relatives and children too to benefit from this opportunity. The formation of RC Mukono Met-ropolitan is also in progress and their first meeting will be held this Sunday 14.07.18 at 5pm. Please be there and witness the birth of anoth-er baby as we heed DG Sharmila’s call to facilitate rotaractors transit to Rotary. Last Friday, I visited the NWSC in a bid to join hands to bring sewerage system to Mukono Municipality. NWSC was positive and they have accepted the partnership. The Sew-erage Services Manager, Mr. Maitek will visit our club officially to con-tinue to engage us and lay ground for signing an MOU. We agreed to a 30 working days period in which to furnish the preliminaries. I feel the

sewerage system can be a good cause for mobilizing stakeholders for our Mayor’s ball slated for No-vember this year. Notably, as you may imagine, the plate is filing up; we will need all the hands we can get in order to uphold our pledge in service. Today, the Parliament committed to support Cancer run with 155,000,000/-. We need 3.5 billion in order to accomplish this phase of equipping our Rotary Centenary cancer ward so there is still much to do. We have committed to contrib-ute 50,000,000/- through selling 2000 tickets. And that requires mass mobilization from all the club mem-bers. So, sell to a family member, sell to a friend, sell to a neighbor, sell to a workmate, sell to a fellow church member and even sell to a co-wife. This cause will elevate RC Mukono to those clubs with serious impact towards rotary community causes. It will also provide us with a platform to publicize rotary and therefore foster membership recruit-ment. Most importantly, it will fetch 10,000,000/- for our club. This is no ordinary cash to put in our treasury so let us wok hard as we make some money, make a name and make a member. Enjoy the reading and see you in fellowship! Yours, President Henry Luzinda

Are ready for the Cancer Run in your own Town? Now that it’s official that the 2018 cancer Run has been launched by the Hon speaker of parliament today, let’s all get our hands on to the project and fast track it. Mukono jurisdiction was given the opportunity to run as an upcountry center. This is a great opportunity for you to reach out those around you for support in this year’s Cancer Run even better. Whenever this even comes up, two things come to my mind, Health and support to the cause. I do not know what moves you but I know there is something that inspires you too. So with this background, let’s all come together and paint our town with love through supporting the cause. We are great full for the steering com-mittee members and sister clubs for vibrancys so far showcased. We have weekend program for walk-

ing/jogging through the gazetted route. We start at 4pm every Sunday from Colline Hotel Gardens, so please

come and join the Inspirational mem-bers of your clubs.
