FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 22, 2019

Dear Parish Family,

As we anticipate the celebration of Christmas this week, our surroundings remind us of this festive season; the homes decorated with lights, the music playing on the radio, the gatherings with family and friends. We know that something special is about to take place, and we can sense it. In the days leading up to the Nativity of our Lord, that first Christmas, Mary and Joseph knew something special was about to take place, too. Yet, they were the only ones until the event itself, when the angel announced to the shepherds the “good news of great joy that will be for all people.” That announcement changed the lives of those shepherds and the whole world forever!

It is fitting that the shepherds would be the first to hear this good news! God always invites the humble and the poor first to share in divine revelations. We hope this announcement continues to change us as we encounter the mystery of the Christ event. Jesus, the Word, becomes human to show us what it means to be human, to show us what God intended in creating us in His image and likeness. Do we continue to allow God to transform our lives?

It is easy for us to be drawn into the vacuum of worldly affairs and lose our focus on what really matters. This Christmas season provides us the opportunity to refocus our lives on Christ, to appreciate the great love God has for us in emptying Himself to become part of His own creation in order to redeem it and enable us to share in His divinity.

Remember, the Christmas season begins the evening of December 24. It continues through the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord on January 12. Let us celebrate the entire Christmas season well. So whether we celebrate with praise and worship of God during Mass, in our times of prayer, in our gatherings with family and friends, let us do all of this mindful of the person for whom we celebrate – Jesus Christ! Let us be ever-grateful for God’s abundant gifts to us, most especially His Son, the Word who became flesh. Let us allow this joyful season to transform us to share in the Incarnation, making Jesus’ Presence manifest to all those we meet during these next weeks.

Let us pray that Mary and Joseph will intercede for us in deepening our love and devotion to the Christ Child, as we obtain the graces of Christmas. Something special is about to take place – may we not only sense it but, more importantly, rejoice in it with the whole of our lives each day!

On behalf of the entire parish staff, please know of our prayers and best wishes for a joyous Christmas season and New Year.

Buon Natale!

In Christ,Fr. Joe Previte
