To place orders on outpatients,
need to change venue in drop‐down to ‘Ambulatory – In Office (Meds in Office)’ selection –
upper right corner of ordering screen
Example of test ordered on Medicare OP Surgery encounter type that does not require ABN checking;
The ABN status defaults to ‘Not Required’ – in center of order details tab.
User can sign the order without further ABN field entry
Example of test ordered on Medicare OP Surgery encounter type that DOES require ABN Checking & MAY require an ABN form to be signed by the patient.
The ABN status is blank & must be addressed by the user
They can choose ‘Not Required’ & then sign the order
Or they can select a diagnosis … this one does not require an ABN
(ABN Checking occurs when the diagnosis box is clicked on) ABN status returned is ‘Not Required’ – user can sign order
Or they can choose a diagnosis that DOES require ABN form to be signed
Notice the Review ABN button that appears to the right
ABN status returned on order details tab is ‘Required & Missing’
Must click on the Review ABN button to print an ABN form for the patient
Now click Print button
Fill in fields & click OK
Will get this message – click Yes
Click which option the patient chose
If Sign, will be returned back to the Print screen
Click Close & then sign order
If patient ‘Refused to Sign’ ABN, order cannot be signed
