Yesterday afternoon and evening 24 Year Three students took their next step in becoming full mem-

bers of the Catholic Church by undertaking the Sacrament of Penance for the first time. Over the past

term student have been learning all about the Sacrament and the scripture stories associated with for-

giveness and the importance of saying sorry when we do the wrong thing.

Thank you to the Year 3/4 teaching team for preparing the students so well and to their families who

have supported the children along this journey. The school wishes to also thank Fr Raymond for his

care and support of the children in their faith development.

Last Thursday the year six students went to the National Gallery of Victoria (N.G.V), for a confirmation retreat. When we arrived we were met by two lovely tour guides Leah and Tabatha. We split off into two groups with one staying downstairs and the other going to the top floor. The top floor group looked at a painting of St Lawrence, with an explanation of the good deed he did by giving poor people things they couldn’t even dream of having. The downstairs group looked at three carvings of religious figures. One of St Barbara, a girl who was locked in a tower and who was also the inspiration for Rapunzel, St Catherine, a girl who converted a mass amount of pagan’s being Christianity was a crime, and Mary, the mother of Jesus. After the tour we were taken to an activity room to draw a portrait of either a saint or ourselves, using all the inspiration we acquired from the art work we saw. We used words to describe ourselves or the saint’s qualities that we learned about during the tour. Pastels were used to draw the face and stick on shapes and gems were used to help decorate the piece. At the end we walked over to a park where we were surprised with letters from our loved ones telling us about their hopes for our Sacrament of Confirmation.

OCTOBER 7TH – NOVEMBER 1ST

Every October, Walk to School encourages Victorian

primary school kids to walk, ride or scoot to and from

school. It’s a great way to help students learn healthy

habits and achieve the recommended 60 minutes of

physical activity, every day.

Active travel options to and from school are also a great

opportunity to connect and chat with your kids, plus

meet up with other local families along the way. If you

can’t walk all the way, your child can still get involved –

simply drive part of the way and walk, ride or scoot the

rest!

How can your family get involved?

Your child’s teacher will record how many times students walk, ride or scoot to and from school during October, using a classroom calendar. The Walk to School website has some great resources and tips to help kids get involved. You can visit www.walktoschool.vic.gov.au to learn more. Your child can track their walks, rides and scoots during October, and contribute to the state-wide effort! Join in the fun!!!
