Have A Pet? Have A Plan!
Leave No Animal Behind!
Please Remember
Pets act differently in emergencies
Prepare for future emergencies.
Practice staying calm when you hear loud noises and see sudden
movements of animals, people, vehicles.
Animals are sensitive to changes around them: weather, new smells,
unfamiliar people, objects out of place, people’s behavior.
If you are agitated, your pet may “act out.”
Don’t leave pets home
Pets cannot survive on their own
Evacuation may require you to be away from your home for longer than
expected. Your pet depends on you for food and safety.
Abandonment of companion animals is against the law in New York State.
Don’t assume someone will come for your pet right after you leave or after
the emergency is over. If left behind, your animals could be there for weeks
before being found.
Animals left behind may prevent emergency responders from doing their
job.
Important Contacts You Should Make Check with friends, relatives or others outside your immediate area. Ask if
they would be able to shelter your animals, if necessary.
Keep a list of boarding facilities and veterinary offices that may care for
your pet until you are able to locate pet friendly housing.
Most Importantly, NEVER LEAVE YOUR ANIMAL BEHIND!!!
