Note: DML currently manages in excess of 85 vessels of various types

Training Masters

& Chief Engineers

To Train a Master or Chief Engineer requires a minimum of

12 years, as general seagoing experience and maturity is

required.

Recruiting new entrants just for expansion is not possible

The only feasible option is to cross train existing,

experienced officers, preferably with gas or tanker

backgrounds.

our Isle of Man and Polish

offices. Simulators provide

real time simulation of all

possible cargo operations; they

can simulate equipment

breakdowns and system

malfunctions to test the

abilities of the trainees to cope

with the unexpected

• DML utilises simulators

extensively for all officers

cross-training from LPG to

LNG vessels and for on-going

monitoring and assessment

purposes

Shiphandling - Manned Models

• Large gas ships have special

manoeuvring characteristics

• DML has sponsored the

construction of a 22 ton ’’ride

on’’ scale model of an 140k type

LNGC at the Ilawa Facility in

Poland

• The Model can be customised to

reproduce the handling

characteristics of: single screw,

duel screw and azipod propulsion

• The Course is designed for senior

deck officers, but is also beneficial

for Pilots at the terminals

Shiphandling - Manned Models

Only to be practised with experienced Instructors at a properly-

equipped facility.

• DML believes in the value of

shiphandling simulation

particularly in the case of new

ship types and new ports or berths

in order to ensure senior deck

officers are familiar with the

characteristics of vessels in both

normal and exceptional conditions

• DML will ensure that the Vessels

will be modelled together with all

expected loading and discharge

ports and all Senior Deck Officers

will undertake both training and

evaluation on this simulator

• It is DML’s recommendation to

place such simulators on board

each vessel
