“Watch your thoughts, for
they become words.
Watch your words, for they
become actions.
Watch your actions, for they
become habits.
Watch your habits, for they
become character.
Watch your character, for it
becomes your destiny.”

Sixth Annual Trivia Night 2017
On Thursday February 23, Friends of the Champ held the Sixth Annual Trivia Night. Our QuizMasters [www.quizmasters.ca] Robin and Maria Allen delivered an exciting, entertaining and engaging atmosphere that helped make the almost-sold-out event a success.
Under the banner of “Let’s put the FUN back into FUNdraising!”, Toastmaster members and their friends, families and colleagues came together to vie for the title of #1 Trivia Team 2017. That honour went to “Mildly Amazing” – Sylvia Nilsson-Barkman, Sidney and Heather Barkman, Ed and Joan Alexander, Sandy Alexander, Amy Black, and Sheryl and Mike Poirier – who were one of 11 teams answering questions in categories from movies to current events and everything in between.
Because we didn’t quite sell out this year, we are still looking for donations to help us meet our goal. To make a donation, contact Claire Ann at [email protected].
And we are always looking for more volunteers to help before and during the event, as well as anyone interested in providing sponsorship. Contact Catriona at [email protected] or Bev at 204-293-9945 or [email protected] for more information.
A big thank you to those who came out for this year’s Trivia Night, and to everyone on the committee for all their incredible hard work. You have all helped in the most fun way possible!
Who are the Friends of the Champ? Friends of the Champ’s mission is to support the District International Speech Contest Entrant at the Annual International Con-vention in August 2017. Friends of the Champ is a stand-alone committee of people who volunteer their time to organize the Trivia Night event. Trivia Night is not an official Toastmasters event.

Remember the excitement of mastering the two-minute Table Topic?
If you’re up for a new challenge, try stretching your brain with the five-
minute version. Combine that with rigorous evaluations and three or
four speeches and you have the typical ASAP meeting.
ASAP has been an advanced club here in District 64 for more than 25
years. Our two-hour meeting allows members to do advanced manual
speeches that may require 20 minutes or more. Our members have a
wide range of interests and expertise so you’ll learn something fasci-
nating at every meeting.
Visitors are asked to complete a Table Topic and an evaluation be-
fore being nominated for membership, and they must also have com-
pleted a Competent Communicator.
We meet one Saturday each month, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the
Church of Christ, 170 Saint Mary’s Road, just a few blocks south of
the Norwood Bridge. We meet the first Saturday of the month if it
doesn’t conflict with District events – check our website
asap.toastmastersclubs.org for meeting dates.

Reaping Rewards Advanced Clubs
While Toastmasters is a great place for beginning your education
in public speaking, once you get to the end of your Competent
Communicator Manual, you might think this is the end of the
training. If your aspirations reach beyond club officer, into the
realm of advanced speaking, then there are several options right
here in District 64.
The Advanced Clubs, are for those members seeking the chal-
lenges of performing Advanced manuals, or getting advanced
evaluations. Membership in an advanced club can propel your
skills in speaking to new heights.
District 64 has seven advanced clubs: Keystone Speakers, Par-
liamentary, Virtual Toastmasters, The Officers Club, Talking
Books, Comedy Club, Eh? and ASAP.
No matter what your goals are the clubs in District 64 can help
you reach them. Look them up, and visit one soon.
