From the Desk ofPresident andManaging DirectorAs all of us know, after going through
protracted political conflict spanning
over a period of one decade, a new
ray of hope emerged after signing of
the Peace Accord between the Seven
Party Alliance and Maoists. Through
this Peace Accord, perhaps Nepal has
presented an unprecedented example
of how insurgencies can be brought to
the political mainstream. With this, as
expected, economic optimism of the
country has reached new heights once
again and corporates are becoming
active to identify new areas of growth.
Our Group, which has demonstratedduring the difficult years of conflict, arguably, a very high degree ofresilience and expansion, need to moveat a much more faster pace in planningour next 10 years of growth path. Whilecontinuing to strengthen our marketshare in our existing product ranges andbrands, a new focus needs to be broughtin services and infrastructure sectors. Asa consequence of the various multilateralagreements, we will see that the tariffbarriers will gradually become less
effective and we will have the rationaleto remain competitive through inherentcompetitive strengths both of thecountry and the Group itself.
We need to plan projects with biggerdomestic content and of markets whichgive us the economies of scale tocompete with products coming in fromboth our neighboring countries. Majorinitiatives, therefore, in construction basedproduct, hydropower and expandedfinancial services sector will take thecentre stage for the coming decade interms of Group’s future expansionstrategies. The time has come for theGroup to reorient our human resourcebase and support in many of theinitiatives that we have planned.
We welcome our friends and partners, both within and outside Nepal, to workwith us in opening up these new frontiers.
