God of Mission
who alone brings growth to your Church,
send your Holy Spirit to give
joy to our worship
vision to our planning,
wisdom to our actions,
and power to our witness.
Help our church to grow in numbers,
In spiritual commitment to you,
And in service to our local community,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Welcome to the Church of St. Stephen & St. Aidan
News From The Pews 1st September 2019
Trinity 11
Collect
O God, you declare your almighty power most chiefly in showing mercy and pity: mercifully grant to us such a measure of your grace, that we, running the way of your commandments, may receive your gracious promises, and be made partakers of your heavenly treasure; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen
Today’s Communion Readings are: Jeremiah 2: 4-13 (page 627) ; Luke 14:1, 7-14 (page 873)
Post Communion
Lord of all mercy, we your faithful people have celebrated that one true sacrifice which takes away our sins and brings pardon and peace: by our communion keep us firm on the foundation of the gospel and preserve us from all sin; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

CONGRATS TO REVD ELLIE BANGAY We have heard this week that Ellie has become engaged to Tim! We hope to have a card to sign in church today. KEN COOPER It is with sadness that we report the death this week of Ken Cooper. Ken had been a TV reporter and presenter for BBC Look North for many years and you may have seen his death was featured on this during the week. His funeral will be held on Wednesday 11th September at 11am at St. Stephen’s Church. A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY We are holding a ‘Schooldays Songs of Praise’, on Wednesday 25th September, between 2 and 3pm at St Aidan’s. There will be lists in both churches for you to choose your favourite hymns and share your schoolday memories and photographs. Please contact Jennifer Deamer for further details. CHAFFINCH From Sarah Woods: Since March 2019, the recycling initiative has raised £130 for Chaffinch to help the children of the Kibera slum. This is enough money to provide 650 hot meals or 433 exercise books or fund a year of high school education. Additionally, we have saved over 70kg of rubbish from landfill. There is a feature in the latest edition of Acomb Alive. It’s fantastic to see the community getting behind what we’re doing. ARE YOU GOOD WITH MONEY? The team which counts collections weekly, normally on Monday mornings, would welcome a couple of new recruits. If you might be interested, please speak to John Goodrich.
