Weekly Newsletter Sunday, November 15, 2015 November, Lesson #8 Lord Teach Me to Pray Series Today’s Lesson Overview: We learned last week with verse 9 of the Lord’s prayer that Prayer begins with Adoration, to God our Father, who lives in heaven and controls all the affairs of the universe. It shows us HOW God’s name is to be kept holy. His name tells us WHO He is. We do not use God’s name in a careless or bad way that does not treat Him as the holy God that He is. Only those who have been Born-Again and adopted by God are children of the Almighty King. We have the privilege of coming to Him in prayer because He is our Father. We belong to Him and are part of His family. In today’s lesson, we will discuss the meaning of Verse 10 of the Lord’s Prayer “May your Kingdom come soon. May YOUR WILL BE DONE on earth, as it is in heaven.” We learned last week that Prayer begins with Adoration, to God our Father, who lives in heaven and controls all the activities of the universe. It shows us HOW God’s name is to be kept holy. No one is to use God’s name in a careless or bad way. You are a child of God, the Almighty King. We have the privilege of coming to Him in prayer, because He is our Father. We belong to Him and are part of His family. Today we continue to learn the next verse…Verse 10 in the Lord Prayer. The verse “May your Kingdom come soon” is about us excitedly waiting for God to come back and take us with Him to heaven. God promised to one day come back for us. Isn’t that exciting? The next verse “May YOUR WILL BE DONE on earth, as it is in heaven” teaches us that we must first do what God asks us to do. That means obedience, not half—but full and complete obedience. It is taking the Word of God into our heart, and doing what it says. It is accepting God's way always—sweetly and willingly—with love and faith. November, Lesson #8 Lord Teach Me to Pray Series

Today’s Lesson Overview: We learned last week with verse 9 of the Lord’s prayer that Prayer begins with Adoration, to God our Father, who lives in heaven and controls all the affairs of the universe. May YOUR WILL BE DONE on earth, as it is in heaven.”

We learned last week that Prayer begins with Adoration, to God our Father, who lives in heaven and controls all the activities of the universe. It shows us HOW God’s name is to be kept holy. That means obedience, not half—but full and complete obedience. verse 10 May your Kingdom come soon.

may your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. A soldier in God’s army is a son or daughter of God who’s goal, desire, and purpose is to serve the Commander in Chief, God. It is a soldier that is to lay down his life for the good of his commander and his country. Philippians 3:20 says “we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for Him to return as our Savior.” A Christians is someone who has been Born-Again, washed by the blood of Jesus, and is filled with the Holy Spirit. They are the ones who have their citizenship in heaven and are eagerly waiting for their Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ to return. As citizens of Heaven, we are to seek FIRST His Kingdom (Matthew 6:33.) The only way we can put God first is to deny ourselves. In Mark 8:34, Jesus said: “If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” The word "deny" means to "disown" or "reject." To "deny one-self" expresses the sense of a person separating himself from his self-interest to serve a higher purpose. Self-denial is not to deny your personality, to deny things or to remove yourself from the world. It is instead the turning away from the worship of self. Your life should not only be about what you want, how you want it, and when you want it. Jesus is saying that our allegiance is to Him FIRST. Our Lord Jesus is the Head of the Church, and He Himself must be the first in everything. Prayer begins with ADORATION. (Verse 9) And then takes us to COMMITMENT TO DOING GOD’S WILL FIRST (VERSE 10)

Matthew 6:9-13 (WEB) 9 Our Father in heaven, may your Name be kept holy. 10 May your Kingdom come soon. may your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today the food we need, 12 and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. 13 And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one. Amen.

If parents don’t have their child’s heart, that child won’t listen to his parents, won’t value their words, and will be argumentative. He will challenge what his parents say and any decisions they make that displease him.

While all children tend to focus on themselves, this child will be even more self-centered. Rather than looking to his parents for direction and counsel, he will be proud and arrogant. As he grows older and gains more freedom, he may begin to act deceitful and lie when doing things he knows his parents wouldn’t let him do. He justifies his wrong actions and views his parents negatively because “they don’t understand.” Ultimately, he may lead his siblings in rebellion against his parents. Such a scenario brings grief and heartache.

Why is having our children’s heart so important? Aren’t they going to grow up anyway? Yes, obviously, they are going to grow up, whether we have their hearts or not. However, if we don’t have our children’s hearts, we miss out on the tremendous blessing of our children as they mature. We stand the very significant chance of losing them to the world.

November, Lesson #8 Lord Teach Me to Pray Series

Parents Corner

Recognizing a Child Whose Heart Is Not Kept (excerpt from the book “Keeping Our Children’s Heart” Titus2 Ministries)

Family Assignment this Week Parents: How do we as parents help our children make progress. One of the most important things to remember when teaching our children to pray is not to be in a hurry. There are 3 basic elements involved in the process of growing in prayer, and they all take time. Furthermore, all 3 need to progress together. Only God can make all these areas grow together. Remember, relationship and growth with God is a lifelong process. Element #1 – Their Technical Prayer Life: It involves actual prayer. It includes them learning to pray different kinds of prayer and learning to pray from their heart. Element #2 – Their Relationship with God: kids need to grow in their knowledge of God through Bible teaching, reading, and studying. WE should teach them that prayer is part of developing a relationship with God. Element #3 - Their Personal Growth: means that they become more like Christ and do what God desires them to be. Through prayer and fellowship they can grow in wisdom and character. You are teaching your child to pray. It’s important that we don’t make it into a chore. Remember, your child needs your encouragement, love, and support.

“Being a Christian demands constant progression, not perfection. “ – author unknown

Our Mission We are here to support the parents in “Training up the child in the way he should go:

so when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6) We are here to equip you, not replace you. Our desire is that every parent would be encouraged

and ready to rise up to the call in teaching their children to love God with all of their heart, mind, and soul through total obedience to Him.

Our Vision

To come alongside the parents to equip them to be the primary leaders in the spiritual development of their children.
