A Rewarding Year Ahead for Our Rotary.

New Club President Jennifer Broadus remained at the podium this week to speak to our club

about exciting plans for the year ahead. New ideas shared to enhance our already rewarding

menu of initiatives, social activities, and programs include Happy Dollars – a fun sharing of good

news by our members at each meeting, and the introduction of a Spring Social in early May

which will encourage the attendance of members and their families. More exciting news to

follow. Broadus also intends to focus major emphasis on membership building in keeping with

RI’s #1 priority this year. The club is presently at a 5-year low, presently hovering around 120

members. “It is essential that we entice new members to join us, especially young members.

They will be the life’s blood of our sustaining membership,” she said. President Broadus also

spoke about club excellence and the many things that make our club so special including our

scholarship program, fund-raising efforts, charitable giving initiatives, and many other initiatives

which make the St. Simons Rotary, a club for others Rotary Clubs to emulate and to follow.

President Broadus then announced that on July 7, 2015 the Board of Directors voted

unanimously to request an increase in membership dues to $205 a quarter. This reflects an

increase of $25 per quarter or $100 per year, or $8.33 /mo., or $2.11 per meal. The facts to

support such an increase are solid. The club has only had one increase in dues in fourteen

years, the last one in 2011. Since then, four (4) increases in lunch costs have resulted in a 60%

rise in our meals costs – from $10.00 in 2011 to the present $16.00 /meal. Meal costs contribute

to 55% of the club’s operating expense. “We are making every effort to shave costs, eliminate

inefficiencies, and make our club operations as cost effective as possible. However, this

increase in dues is long overdue. Dues are the only revenue stream contributing to the daily

operation of our club. It is essential that we maintain the financial health and stability of our club

by voting in favor of the proposed increase. A vote by an assembly of the membership will be

taken at our meeting on July 28, 2015.

HOW OUR CLUB PAYS DUES TO DISTRICT & ROTARY INTERNATIONAL Twice a year, July and January, the Club pays dues to Rotary International and District 6920 for every member of our club. Your personal contribution may be more than you think. It currently amounts to about 17% of your total annual dues with combined dues to both entities amounting to $121.90 per year. These payments cover your Rotary International dues ($50), your District dues ($38), your Rotarian Magazine subscription ($12), Liability Insurance ($3.40), the 2017 International Convention ($18.50) and Council on Legislation ($1.00). The Convention fee you are currently paying will probably go away after the Convention’s bills are paid in full. These dues comprise over $15,000 of our Club’s operating expenses and about 15% of our operating budget. We thought you would like to know.
