YOUR STRENGTHS
60-SECOND BOOK BRIEFS
BY MARCUS BUCKINGHAM
Marcus Buckingham tells us that we must focus on our strengths rather than our weaknesses if we are going to succeed. Here’s what you need to know.
Lesson 1: Understand what a strength actually is.
It is the consistent, near
perfect performance in an activity. It’s the combination of talent,
knowledge and skill.
Lesson 2: There are 2 types of knowledge.
Zero is the lonliest numberfactual knowledge +
experiential knowledge
Zero is the lonliest number+ Zero is the lonliest number
Our strengths will always include a
combination of both.
Lesson 3: We need to find our talents.
We’re all different
Most people get the highest level of satisfaction out of their talents.
Find work that has an inherent satisfaction in it, and you’ve just spotted a talent.
Lesson 4: You need to deal with your weaknesses without making them your main focus.
The easiest way to do this is to build a support system of other people who enjoy doing the things you’re not good at.
