We have several outstanding bull auctions comingup in the next couple of months. Some people tell me how high bulls are thisyear. But are they??? One weigh bull Tuesday brought $2700/hd. To replace abull you’ve used for 3-4 yrs and maybe kick in $2-4 thousand doesn’t seem thatbad at all. Makes me kind of think they’re as cheap as they’ve ever been. Samething w/cows. Take that 8-10 yr old cow @ $ 1300, she’s got a $500 couponattached right to her. Again she looks like a heck of a buy. People complainingabout high meat prices. I saw choice ribeye loins this week at $6.35/lb. Not freebut a heck of a buy. Finally I see our Secretary of Ag is coming to Nebraskatouting putting more land in CRP & wetlands. What we need is to start figuringout how to get more land back into grass/hay production. I haven’t had soy-burger yet & I’m hoping they’ll be enough cows left so I won’t have to any timesoon.

Performing Manufacturing Organizations (Preventive/ Predictive Maintenance, TPM, etc.). Proper schedulingof work to fit maximum amount completed with minimal plant downtime. These systems will provide maximumplant capacity, while minimizing cost. The result is reduced unscheduled downtime creating higher plant effi-ciency.
2.Manage the maintenance staff through delegation, policy and procedure administration, assignment of workresponsibilities, planning, organizing, directing and follow-up of the work assignment. Promote plant safetyperformance through administration, enforcement of company and plant policy/procedure and training consis-tent with the objectives of Farmland Foods and in compliance with Federal and State agencies.
3.Accountable for providing long term solutions and day-to-day support to all operating teams having issues withtroubleshooting, problem analysis, equipment failures, etc. Ensure the smooth daily operation of the plant withminimal repetitive issues.
4.Capital project development and post-approval management. Manage and schedule project elements toensure minimal interruption to plant operations. Deliver finished projects as designed, on time and on budgetwith no safety, food safety or environmental issues.
5.Develops and/or maintains Key Performance Indicators for tracking and reporting the performance of themaintenance function (supplier performance, equipment reliability, overall equipment effectiveness, etc.).
6.Takes ownership for their own personal growth and professional development by soliciting feedback, gettinginvolved in departmental/plant initiatives and projects, and developing a career plan.
7.Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the maintenance department at the plant.8.Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.9.Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work;
appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving prob-lems.
Qualifications:Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering from a 4 year university and 8 plus years of related experience in
a manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and oral formats.High level of written and oral communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, andadaptability.Knowledge of Microsoft spreadsheets, Word processing software and the Internet, Microsoft Suite and UNIXapplications (SAP).Ability to use exposure monitoring equipment, interpret and communicate results.Strong interpersonal, technical and presentation skills required.Possess advanced technical skills in the mechanical / electrical fields (e.g. PLCs, instrumentation, mechanicalengineering, etc.) and is able to lead resource planning efforts in a large manufacturing environment.Thorough knowledge of maintenance systems, work order process, preventive/predictive maintenance, TPM, etc.
