News from The Saint Andrew’s High School: Class of 2016 Graduation Mass and Commissioning Ceremony; Tuesday, June 28th, 6:30 p.m.; St. Andrew’s Cathedral This week we celebrated our Closing Mass at Sacred Heart Church. The Class of 2016 held a candle ceremony following Mass, a special time for the group—one of a few in the coming weeks—as their formal K-12 schooling nears an end. May they continue to be bathed in the light of Christ in the month ahead while they along with their families prepare of gradua-tion. Thank you to our fine arts students for their performances at our Celebration of the Arts assembly. This was a culmi-nation of a very productive year for our music and theatre students. I wish them all well in the years ahead and I know they will find ways to share their love of music and the arts. Congratulations to our recently elected 2016-2017 Student Council. The following students will serve the student body next school year: Evan Murry as President, Jarin James as Vice President, Annie Chen as Secretary, Parker Volk as Treasurer, Cyrille Santos and Thia Lanuza as Spirit Reps, Justin Wale and Chanel Mandap as Fine Arts Reps, and Bowen Liu as our International Rep. I wish all of these students well in the year ahead as they prepare events and discuss matters pertinent to the students of St. Andrew’s. I would also like to say thank you and a job well done to this year’s President, Laura Barlee-Morris and Vice President, Jamie Yousief, along with their entire team. Recently, we welcomed our friends from Toko Gakuen High School in Tokyo, Japan. This was the sixth year we have had Toko Gakuen students visit St. Andrew’s and as usual, our visitors were gracious and sharing. The day began with a dance routine then a full-on choral song by the near-100 students. Our guests made new Canadian friends with our students and shared their culture with us through games and mini-lessons. Congratulations to the St. Andrew’s Rowing Academy and the Sabres track and field team and girls’ soccer team. All three teams have been away competing in national and provincial competitions. Thank you to all students involved for representing us so well and to staff mem-bers who traveled with the teams. Thank you again to all others (parents, coaches, trainers) involved with these teams for lending their expertise and for volunteering to help our students. We will have an opportunity next week to celebrate these and all of our student athletes at our annual Sports Awards Night, to be held in the school gymnasium on the evening of Tuesday, June 14th. Several year-end awards are handed out in the field of school athletics. Thank you to Mr. Kevin Men-nie, the Sports Parents, and the rest of the team who are busy organizing that night for our students. Thank you for your continued support of St. Andrew’s Regional High School and may God Bless You in the days ahead.

How you can donate more to our church without increas-ing your costs! If you put your money in a numbered offering envelope you will receive a donation receipt at the end of the year upon which you can claim a tax credit. No envelope – no tax receipt. Here’s how: Say you donate $5 per week. That is $260 per year.($5x52) If you signed up for an envelope dona-tion, then you would be able to claim the Donation Credit on your income tax return. Say you donate $5 per week and do not have an envelope to allow you to claim the credit then your cost is $260 per year. If you donate $360 per year with an envelope to claim the Donation Credit then your cost is $250 per year! The Donation Credit is calculated as follows: The First $200 of annual donation entitles you to a tax credit of $40 ($200 @20%). Any additional amount, say $160 enti-tles you to an additional tax credit of $70 ([email protected]%) the total tax credits are $40 +70 =$110. Therefore your net cost is $360 less Donation Tax Credit of $110 equals $250.The rea-son that some parishioners do not wish to sign up for a dona-tion envelope may be an embarrassment that they are unable to contribute more to the Church. All the people who handle the money respect the fact that everyone contributes what they are able to. As well there are a very limited number of people who can access the number and match it with the name. These are the very few who will issue you your receipt for income tax purposes. Please check with your personal tax advisor to evaluate these results as other factors may impact your personal tax situation.
