Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
The growing years of an individual, the first 8 years to be specific, is known
as the early childhood.
Early childhood education helps the
child towards acquiring knowledge and
skills which will be invaluable to them in
the future. In fact it is this which will be
the mainstay in the future of the
individual.
Early childhood education is known as “Learning through play". Since
during the first 9 years of the individual, the brain is developing and it much
of the foundation for the future is laid at this period, the child benefits mot
from the education that it receives during this period.
The mental growth of child is dependant on the kind of skills and education it
receives, relationships that it builds during this period, and nutrition which it
receives to the physical side of the body as well, will determine the rational
growth of the baby.
Needless to stress, good early childhood education helps the
development of the child’s brain; improper education which includes
studying without playing, will affect the development of the brain adversely.
It is thus to be construed that childhood experiences and learning is the
foundation for the future citadel of a life.
Many studies of early childhood education have evidenced how it
motivates the child, especially when education is an important aspects of
individual growth, every adult will do well to start investing on the childhood

education properly. You shouldn’t wait to give them better schooling or
education till they reach school age.
For intellectual growth, emotional stability and social development early
childhood education is of great importance.
Unless you use the high rate of learning which takes place in an individual
during this period, to build the mental abilities, the individual may be at a
disadvantage in his later life.
During the first 8 years of an individual’s existence, the child in him learns
his/her own uniqueness. The first 8 years the developmental period, should
be used by the parents and teachers alike to teach the children to
understanding our surroundings not through hard hitting lessons, but
through play and thus provide links to its growth.
Early childhood education should be geared towards using play as an
important learning and developmental tool in children.
Playing can help children acquire multifaceted education and bring out its
inherent talents. Moreover it can teach skills to move in the society,
understand ethics and values.
Early childhood education is the main foundations stone on which the
success of an individual is built. If it is strong the future of the individual will
also be strong. During this period the individual imbibes habits and goes on
to form patterns which cannot be easily changes during later stages.
If the child lacks parental supervision or interface when it is a toddler, it can
have a negative impact on the development of the child, which is not helpful
to the child.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
Early childhood education is not merely the responsibility of teachers but
equally it is for parents to take part in the child’s educational and social
growth.
Toddler lesson plans should start very early, and they should be fun, help toddler
busy with amusing ideas, as you start readying him for kindergarten school.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Free Toddler Lesson Plans
Kids are ingenious in guessing what is going on around their environment.
They can sense the kind of things in store be it playing, or eating, or
preparing them for a good night’s sleep.
First of all hit upon a few ideas like the kind of activity for your kids, which
they will love to ape and follow.
But before deciding upon the kind of activity you are trying to introduce to
them, you have to consider mainly two important aspects. Make the learning
process a fun, and the activity you introduce to them should be educational.
Free toddler lesson plans will expose you to a number of crafts which you
can teach them at the learning stage.
Nowadays the kids are all aware of the learning process, as you put them
into such activity. Your toddler lesson plans should be inclusive in such a
way that they enjoy and while enjoying learn as well.
Even toddlers are exposed to computer games and TV in many households,
and they are nothing new to them.
Encourage your kids to be in front of the computer and maybe play for a
while in whatever manner the child can, and try the games in the computer.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
Though you can allow them to go ahead with such activities, especially
watching TV, they should know when to end the games and return to other
things. Don’t make them couch potatoes.
The kids at preschool stage are not only active, but they are curious about a
variety of things. You should therefore plan the free toddler lesson plans
in a scientific manner.
Any activity which you introduce to the kids should benefit them in the long
run, and develop them into good individuals as they grow up.
Teach them as to feel the activity is part of the fun, and they are not being
imposed on to learn something which they dislike. You can’t teach the kids
by being rude to them.
Appear strict towards them, when need be, but never rude. It won’t work in
developing them as a good individual. Since children have very short
attention at this stage, they may not listen to you, but when you point out at
the fun part of the activity, they will fall in line.
Your free toddler lesson plans should expose the children to a number of
kid-crafts which are free and you don’t have to spend much on developing
them. For instance, take the daily chores in your house.
You can ask the kids to assist you and give an impression that it is fun, and
at the end of it there is always a reward awaiting them. This will make them
look forward to such tasks later.
Don’t be worried, if they get themselves dirty, maybe through coloring, or
molding activities. Even if they get dirty, tell them about hygiene, and teach
them how to be clean.

Toddler Lesson Plans for Toddler Reading
Many parents should spend more time reading with
their children. In addition, books are so valuable to
learning and developing new concepts.
As well as, some parents want their children to get
an early start on learning and try to prepare their
children for preschool with toddler lesson plans.
One of the key components of learning for toddlers is developing reading skills.
Furthermore, this article will focus on developing reading lesson plans for toddlers.
It is important to get your toddler familiar with going to the library and checking
out a book. Also, the child can be introduced to the librarian staff and shown the
children book area. Many libraries have schedule story time during different times
of the year.
You can allow the child to participate in any library activities that involved reading
and learning about new book releases. The trips to the library will allow the child to
develop a love for the library and reading.
In addition, you can allow the child to choose a book to read once a week from the
library. You would return home with the book and read with the child. It would help
to discuss the book after completely reading the book.
It would help to make the toddler lesson plans for reading interactive for the child.
In addition, you should encourage conversation from the child while reading any
book. If you are reading a book on cows then ask the child “What sound does the
cow makes?”
Also, you can point out pictures in the book and ask the child to name the person,
place or thing. The interactive method helps the child learn concepts, spell and how
to read. As well as, make sure the child can identify every picture in the book.
Books are not just used for reading but can be used as a tool to introduce the child
to other subjects.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
It’s unbelievable at the number of resources available for our children on the
market. For example, there are books on ballet, fishing, football, painting and
camping for toddlers.
The books give a description of the activities and explain why people do the
activity. In addition, books can be used as a reference for everyday experience for
teaching the toddler.
For instance, if you see a police car then point out to the child that’s a police car
from one of the books the child was reading. Also, you can encourage a child to
read by rewarding the child.
The child can set a goal to read a certain amount of books each month. If the child
makes the goal then you can reward the child with his favorite treat. As well as,
reading can be quality time for the family.
Moreover, reading allows the parent to make memories with their children by
reading a book every night before bedtime.
Some children spend countless hours watching TV, playing video games and surfing
the internet. It is important to get your child involved in physical activities and mind
stimulating activities.
Furthermore, toddler lessons plans can be really effective in developing your child’s
reading IQ.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Preparing For The Growing Up Of The Toddler
Children start putting their first steps, generally when they reach 10 months age.
This is the time when you have to get your home prepared for not only the event,
but to ensure the kid’s safety.
As the toddler grows up, you should ensure its safety by removing hazards in and
around your living space. Consider the following needs to tackle the growing up of
the toddler.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
Remember growing up of the toddler means the kid will start becoming mobile
and go from place to place in the house. Check your house, look out for sharp
corners, and remove such objects or blunt the
edges, cover with soft cushioning.
Examine various items in the house, like
tables, fireplace, etc. apart from other
appliances so that you eliminate anything
protruding or having sharp edges. This is the
first safety inspection that you should conduct.
.
Growing up of the toddlers means the kids climbing stairways. You cannot deny
access to the kid to all the stairways; instead you should provide safety gates.
Children are curious, and as the growing up of the toddler involves developing
motor skills, the kids are at risk of falls.
Studies state that kids below 5 were the major portion of children landing in
hospitals with serious injuries. It is necessary to put up safety gates to avoid
accidents.
With the growing up of the toddler the child may reach objects which are
potentially dangerous. Keep out of the kid’s reach objects like stones or marbles,
which are used for decorating the house. It is normal for every child to put objects
into the mouth.
Therefore, ensure you don’t keep glass items, pet food and house cleaning
chemicals, within its reach. Keep pet food out of its reach. Since babies crawl
around the house, and put hands and objects into mouth, be careful what they
reach. Remove all cleaning products, makeup, alcohol, medicine, etc. from its
reach, and keep them locked up.
Ensure that furniture around the house doesn’t fall. Children love to climb. Make
sure computers, and other heavy things do not fall on the moving children.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
Growing up of toddlers may result in the children invading the kitchen. Here
again keep chemical products out of their each, put up a stove guard so that they
don’t get burnt.
Don’t let the child play with gas knobs, keep kitchen cutlery aside. Encourage them
to help you around in the kitchen, but don’t let them stand on stools, which may
result in injuries.. Monitoring them consistently is important
Similarly cover all unused power outlets, keep blow dryers and all other electrical
gadgets removed from plugs, and away from child’s reach. Don’t let them be near
the bath tub, without your supervision.
Growing up of a toddler necessitates child-proof home, with child safety doors.
They are extremely quick in crawling out or running even if for a minute you take
off your eyes from them. When you are ensured that they cant get hold anything
dangerous, you can relax.
(3-5 YEARS)
Now your baby is now at his pre-school age. The child’s development will
now predominantly revolve around playing. Psychologists often say that a child at
play is a child at work.
INITIATIVE VS GUILT
Your child’s imagination will be so amazing at this point. He can imagine and
do wondrous things with just a single stick and a cape. He can conjure up an
amazing castle with just a box, a giant dragon out of a lampshade, and a horse out
of vacuum cleaner.
It is important not to stifle his imagination and his desire to know why things are
they way they are.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
Your child’s morality is forming at this stage. Feedback on what he does is
important. The way your whole family treats your pre-schooler will affect how he
would perceive the effects of his actions.
Keep encouraging his desire to explore but still give him reasonable and
constant structure. If he asks what that thing is, tell him. Do not discourage
his questions for that would stifle his drive to learn.
When he’s done something right, praise him. Never ridicule or laugh at his
accomplishments.
Let him help you whenever he wants to. This would foster a sense of
initiative in your child that would be highly beneficial during the adult years.
As much as possible, let him play with other children. This way, he would
know how to cooperate with others, and go about the social system.
Children will be able to express their emotions fully and properly, learn to
state their preference and also follow what others wish.
The child’s bond to a parent of the opposite gender is also quite strong in this
stage. This is the onset of what psychologist call the Oedipus (son-to-
mother) or Electra (daughter-to-father) complex. The father is responsible
for reconnecting with his son and to re-instate the sense of being male to his
son. The mother is should also do the same for her daughter who’s
excessively attached to her father.
Do not scold your child excessively for this may stifle his initiative. He would
have feelings of guilt that what he’s doing is wrong. In order to be safe, he would
just be quiet and will not state what it is that he would desire.
He will not be able to go along with his peers, and continue to still being
dependent on his parents. On the other hand, a child that is given whatever he
wishes without being carefully regimented will lead to ruthless behavior.
A properly raised child will result to an adult that has a sense of purpose and
direction. He will be able to make decisions on his own and initiate any personal or
professional goal.

Toddler Lesson Plans - Toddler Learning Activities
If your toddler is naughty keep the child occupied with some creative activities. You
should use the household items and things lying around, to stimulate and teach him
as a matter of routine.
Through this the toddler can become
imaginative and develop originality, even as
you spend time with the toddler.
While some children copy their elders, if you
get down to act as animal, crawl, or hop,
the cats and cows all will be mimicked by
the toddler.
Teach your child to imitate sounds of the
animals. Teach him how would a cow sleep,
or how a cat would have his dinner.
Toddler learning activities should include
knowing about animals, their lifestyle,
where they will have their bath, where will
they drowse, and why a cat isn’t wearing a
coat, etc.
Show him how a cow eats, by eating a snack, and also offering the toddler one
asking him to imitate.
There are any number of such activities which can form part of you lessons to the
toddler, and develop his creativity too.
Toddler learning activities should lead to teaching him dancing and expose him
to music. Scientists claim that if we expose children to particular music, their brain
develops fast.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
Become a child with your toddler, stretching, swaying, and jumping around, making
loud noises as well.
Swing the toddler, put him up on your feet and lift him, or lift the toddler near to
the ceiling. This way not only both of you get exercise, your child will be learning
skills and its imaginative powers will grow.
Next comes in the Toddler learning activities, aiming and throwing. Try to tell
the toddlers that you both are playing a game, and start running around the house,
Throw the ball and ask the toddler to hit it. Teach him to throw objects to a
distance, may be into baskets a few feet away.
There are many things you can imagine up as you interact with the child, and teach
him along. Most importantly, praise the toddler when it succeeds, but never chide
the child, but reassure that next time it will succeed.
Ask your child to put dirty clothes into dryers, and cheer for achieving the task.
Part of your Toddler’s learning activities can include cleaning of the house. It
will be fun for the child.
Give the child damp dusters and ask the child to find dirt and clean it away. The
child can clean up tables, chairs, etc., which you will in any case have to wipe.
Toddler learning activities should comprise of the child discovering the toys.
Especially toddlers choices are made in order to develop the learning skills.
If you can provide him a table to sit down and play with things on the table, it will
help to induce the child’s creativity.
Toddler lesson plans should start very early, and they should be fun, help toddler
busy with amusing ideas, as you start readying him for kindergarten school.

Toddler Lesson Plans - Toddler Development
Toddlers’ development during its first three years is related to its brain
development as well. The brain not only increases in weight, but formulates billions
of connections to the nerves, and when the kid is three, it will have almost twice
the amount nerve links compared to an adult. For this reason they exhibit lot of
curiosity.
The brains of children take in all the information, build new connections, and try to
use the new sounds and sights to arrive at their own conclusions. This explains why
a toddler toy is molded to be colorful, loud and bright. These toys stimulate a kid’s
mind.
During the first stage of Toddler’s development, the child begins to classify and
differentiate. The kid can distinguish stuffed bears, rubber balls, etc., and it knows
the shapes of different objects.
When you provide a kid with toddler toys, it is curious to explore the color, shapes
and shades helping the kid to understand and differential various things which
comes across, to form an impression about the world in which the kid lives.
Toddler’s development demands your providing toys which stimulate intelligence
and creativity. Musical toys help toddlers, to learn the balancing of sounds and
harmony, even as their young minds respond to melodies and rhythms. Classical
music can help to develop a kid’s imagination.
In the initial years of Toddlers development, they would have all the neurons
established in the brain, but their neurons are not connected to form networks
necessary for multifaceted thinking processes. During this time toys like puzzles,
mind games, mix-match, etc. should be introduced to children to kindle logic and
reasoning powers.
Since kids have very limited attention, they can easily get bored. In these days of
media and information revolution, they are exposed to a variety of things, from
cartoon channels to internet access, sophisticated gadgets, the kids can switch from
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
one appliance to another, but they will remain bored. It is here the role of
traditional toys needs to be emphasized.
Kids should learn to be more patients, and it is the responsibility of parents to teach
them patience, and steer them towards increased focus and concentrating on
developing their skills, by filtering out disruption, and boost their memory.
Toys of traditional genre demand kids’ attention more and ask the kids to sit down,
think, for a couple of minutes, to enable the child to form good habits and
discipline. Good habits and discipline are the two important pre-qualification for
succeeding in the adult world.
Toddler’s development is multifaceted and very interesting, as from zero
awareness the kid starts sensing things around it, distinguishing things, and
identifying people. Kids respond well to music and musical toys are a great draw
among the children. Hen parents and later teachers in the pre-schools provide it a
helping hand; it can steer well towards success in later life.
Toddler lesson plans should start very early, and they should be fun, help toddler
busy with amusing ideas, as you start readying him for kindergarten school.
Where can you get Toddler Lesson Plans designed by the
experts?
Time-Life are leaders in research and education, they have spent many years and
many millions of dollars, studying exactly how kids brains grow and develop.
The good news, all kids brains can be developed, the bad news, you get one shot at
it! You can’t go back and do it all again!
There’s a reason for this as by age 4yrs –50% of a child’s brain has already
Developed, by age 8 it’s up to 80% and by 18yrs it’s all over.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
The experts believe that the 1st six years is the best time to teach the kids
anything, reading writing and maths right through to language even good
behaviour!
All this is done before the kids get
to school! Puts a lot of pressure
on mum and dad as you’re the
early educators and you
determine what the kids can or
can’t do for the rest of their lives!
So mums and dads are asking, how can we make the most of this time? What can
we do to give the kids the best start possible?
That’s why we have developed a “Holistic” learning system for balanced brain
development.
Traditional learning targets specific areas where knowledge is lacking; whereas
holistic learning stimulates the whole of intelligence producing a lifetime ability to
use knowledge of all kinds-
We start firstly with the Basic skills; there are more than 85 of these the children
need before they get to school.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
Next are the thinking skills which is how the brain actually processes the
information, (many of these are not taught specifically at school but the kids still
need them.)
The social and emotional skills need to be developed as you can have the brightest
kid in the world but with no confidence it’s not going to be any help. And lastly we
build on Foundation knowledge, experts believe by introducing the more difficult
subjects at home and in a fun way, when they get to the classroom they already
have an understanding and can build further.
All of the components work and build on one another so nothing gets left out.
We know of nothing else like it! Let me show you
BABY SCHOOL
Babies are smarter than we think, they can add before they can count and they can
understand 100 words before they can even speak, so Baby school is designed to
help you make the most of the first 18mths and have a lot of fun in the process.
The most important place to start is with Mum and Dad, so Baby’s first year covers
countdown to delivery, pregnancy to parenthood, everyday care, feeding, health
and safety. It’s a year of remarkable development with First words, first teeth, and
even first steps.
Now what most people don’t realize is what we watch on T.V is too fast for babies
to focus on, so there is a special slow motion video, boldly outlined and brightly
coloured that will help baby focus more easily.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
There’s a selection of music at high pitch frequencies that babies prefer (sorry
Dad). And because babies need a lot of time and attention there’s a glove puppet,
cloth book, soft toys and a mobile great for interacting with baby. Four brightly
coloured board books stimulate baby’s interest in books and introduce them to
colours, shapes and numbers.
There is even a parent handbook, which tells you how to make the best use of
everything, gives suggestions on homemade toys and includes a weekly workout
program for your baby.
Baby School is not about making a genius out of your baby or straining him to learn
at an early age it’s about enhancing the natural development of their senses and
providing hours of fun and stimulation at the same time.
FIRST SKILL AND LANGUAGE
We all want to make the most of the early years, but that’s not always easy! We
have to compete with TV’s, computers, video games just to get their attention let
alone keep it. So we need some really entertaining stuff to do that.
That’s why we have the 1st skills and language programme, this covers all of their
basics, the alphabet, colours, shapes and time and includes the 85 skills they need
before school, things like recognising their ‘own’ name when written down, using a
pair of scissors and understanding time.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
Child development expert agree that next to physically hugging your kid nothing
has a greater impact on their early development than the time Mum and Dad spend
reading to them.
So there are 39 bright colourful books full of original stories, songs, poems they
cover ABC’s, 123’S, colour and time. Some of the books link up with CD’s which
link up the written word with the spoken word, which helps them learn to read a lot
easier and a lot quicker.
Then there are videos and CD’S To get them up singing and dancing. A star
achiever chart with big gold stars and all the fun things. Wall charts, posters, clock
faces, flashcards, and work pads so they can learn by doing. There are jigsaws,
wall friezes, driver’s manuals for mum and dad and even work mats and painting
mats. These kids have stacks of fun whilst they’re learning.
For kids play is serious business (that’s their JOB!) Now you can make the most of
that playtime with the first Skills and Language program.
…………………………………………………………………………………………
CHILD’S DICTIONARY;
Next we deal with their vocabulary, the first 1800 words the kids will most likely
come into contact with. It’s designed like a big storybook with lots of word picture
association and really simple text. Example a polar bear is a white bear that lives
in a cold place.
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
Also things alike are grouped together so it’s easy for the kids to find what they’re
looking for. As for a little one an apple, pear and banana it’s all fruit so that’s were
you’ll find it.
This is invaluable for not only now when they want to know what this and that
means but also when they get to school when they bring lists of words home each
week. The kids will pick this up and read it more like a storybook.
………………………………………………………………………………………
Now we’ve taken care of the basics, the ABC’s and 123’s, the next part of holistic
learning is to develop their thinking skills. We do that with the
…………………………………………………………………………………………
EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM- To give the kids a head start in school.
This looks at things like imagination, reading, nature, good behaviour and even
flexible thinking, with this we ensure that kids get exposed to all these skills and
start developing them at the earliest possible age.
Kids need to see that books are just as much fun as toys, so guess what? We
turned the books into toys.
So we have fun stuff like hammerhead cats and hound eagles in a split page book.
Kids have a giggle with all the funny animals, and it’s their very early problem
solving skills. Balderdash the Brilliant is all about colours. It develops their lateral
thinking which is difficult for us! It then introduces all the colours of the rainbow
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
one by one, explains all about primary colours and how they mix into secondary
colours even tertiary colours.
Purple Parrots eating carrot is a rebus reader which means the words are replaced
with pictures so the kids can read along too, (it’s a great confidence builder).
These are really hands on with lift and learn flaps, where’s Wally type pages, cut
outs and movable clock faces.
They develop history and geography in a fun way. And in the Bumble town
detectives the kids get to be super sleuths and solve mysteries. They are required
to use skills such as sorting sequencing and deductive reasoning. These skills are
essential for maths and of course introducing these early means that maths is going
to be easier later on.
There are 17 different thinking skills spread throughout 17 different volumes so
that nothing gets left out.
………………………………………………………………………………………….
The Third part of their holistic learning is their social and emotional development;
this is the
…………………………………………………………………………………………..
Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
Child’s Library Of Values. This is all the good stuff we want to instil in them at an
early age. Things like honesty, sharing, caring making friends and even not giving
up.
They are drawn from storytellers and illustrators from all over the world to give that
multicultural feel.
Stories like Mimi the Selfish Kitten is about sharing our toys, The Grumpy Dragon is
about making friends and Even the search for the missing light is about not giving
up.
Not only do they teach they entertain because they relate to kids. In the Naughty
Mole (USE YOUR BOOK). Mum and Dad say lets all have a long sleep for the winter
and Ben says It’s boring to go to bed I want to stay up and play!! (Bet you’ve heard
that one before).
The children love to listen to stories so they are all on CD”s as well and there are
finger puppets of all the main characters so the kids can role play.
At the end of the day if we don’t teach this stuff at home, who’s going to??
…………………………………………………………………………………………..
Now you can see we are doing very different things here developed the basics, their
thinking and behaviour skills and next we expand their knowledge. Because It’s
about now you start getting the Why? Why? Why Syndrome, kids want to know
everything about everything so you have..

Toddler Lesson Plans - Early Childhood Education
CHILD’S FIRST LIBRARY OF LEARNING
Which covers everything from animals to the body dinosaurs to How things work,
space, nature, environment right through to music and art.
It’s all in question and answer format because that’s how their brains process
information- it has to make a lot of sense quickly to get them to want to learn. And
all the answers are given clearly and at a child’s level of understanding. (Because
we might know the answers to most of the kid’s questions, but we don’t think like a
4yr old.)
So we’ve got a couple of short sentences- that’s all the kids need - Great pictures
so they can really understand what’s going on, and they’re real questions, (stuff
kids want to know about, like why are rabbits ears long?)
There’s also mini data, (a bit of extra information), try this and check it out, (simple
experiments the kids can do to get them involved with their learning), and a bit for
mum and dad so if they keep asking but why? You have some extra ammunition!!
There’s a growing up album at the end of each, activity books and even parents
guides.
This is one of the most popular children’s series ever, with over 23 million volumes
sold in over 22 languages and in 45 countries around the world.
And you can see why because it tells kids what they want to know, when they want
to know it and in a way they can understand it!!!

Your child is ready for school. His world will now transition between your

At this age, teachers and peers will have an upper say over several facts for
the child sees his teacher as a person of authority and of great knowledge.
Who could blame him, it’s his teacher who’s teaching him things that he was
not able to learn at home.
INDUSTRY VS INFERIORITY
This stage is what others call as the child’s
entry point to the adult world. The child will now
learn how to accomplish a task. The social skills
that he’s acquired during his pre-school years will
be further honed and developed in this stage.
They will now have a sense of responsibility over
tasks that they are assigned to do. It’s not
merely important that they start a task. They
must finish it in order to have a sense of
accomplishment.

Now would be a good time to introduce him to team sports so he will know
what it is to achieve a goal and still be a team player. Do not push him too
much in this area. Let him enjoy his chosen sport, hone his skill, but don’t
make it seem that his world should revolve about winning. Do not push him
to his limits. If he fails, he may detest sport all together and think that he’s
worthless in this area.
Give him tasks that he can accomplish easily, yet with enough challenge that
would give him a sense of self-worth. Let him put his own dishes in the
washer. Have him look into his school bag and arrange the notebooks
accordingly. Give him a simple puzzle that can be completed by a child his
age. Or buy him a coloring book and say that if he colors a page properly,
he will get a treat.
A child will develop narrow virtuosity if he is forced to always accomplish a task
perfectly. Doing the same thing over and over again does not give him enough
room to know other activities and explore what else he’s capable of doing.
A child that is constantly belittled on everything that he does, or on a field that he
sees as important to him will be inert, or will not do anything for fear of ridicule.
Children like this have inferiority complex and have a hard time coping with his
peers.
What you need is to have your child develop a sense of competency and
method. He must know how to it is to make things in order to produce results. He
should given the opportunity to systematically follow a goal in pursuit of knowledge
and success.

(13-18 YEARS)
This would be the most difficult point of development both for you as a
parent and for your child. A period called “growing pains,” your child now has
issues with his peers, as well as with himself.
Not only you will have a problem with understanding your child – he will also
have problems understanding what is going on with him for changes are happening
in a pace that he cannot quite cope up with
IDENTITY VS ROLE CONFUSION
Some say this stage start between 9-13 years
old, depending on the level of maturity of your child.
Several years ago when this theory was made by
Erick Ericson, children reach this stage at age 13.
But with the advancing technology, mass media, and
a higher level of education offered in schools, your
child’s transition to this stage can start as early as 9
years old.
At this stage, your child is now concerned over
developing his identity. An identity that him himself
can accept as well as by his peers. What peer groups
are formed and loyalty or fidelity is a core requirement.
Ideology is now formed, and acted upon vigorously. As they explore their vastly
changing world to find out who they are and what they are, experimentation often
leads to discovery of something they are not ready for.

Drugs, sex, smoking and alcoholism in particular is tried because of peer pressure
and the need to “belong” and be “accepted” in society. On the other hand, their
experimentation and exploration can be constructive where they will find their path
and do everything that they can so they can achieve a future full of promise.
Never control your child in everything that he would do. The more you
control your child, the more he would rebel. Guide him in what he wants to
achieve, and only interfere if he’s causing harm to himself and to others.
Always communicate and listen to what he would want in life. If he asks
questions answer him truthfully. Never close your door on him for he would
only find answers elsewhere that may or may not give him the right answer.
Do not tell him to become something that he does not want to be. An
identity crisis would ensue, causing further conflict between you and him.
If your child was not given enough confidence to find out who he is and what he
could be, he would divorce himself from the norms of society and be a part of a
group that gives him an identity that he did not put much effort in forming.
If your child has formed an ideology, fanaticism may form. They will go through
lengths to achieve what they believe in.
A resolved stage gives your child a sense of fidelity. This means that even though
he knows that the society that they live in has flaws and commits mistakes, he
would remain loyal and still follow a set of standards.
They would be confident on what they are and who they are and will now contribute
to correcting those imperfections of the society that they live in.
