Dear Parishioners of Mary Star of the Sea: We continue the month of November dedicated to prayer for the Holy Souls. Below is an Article I came across entitled: “The Miracle of Montserrat”. I hope you enjoy it. Have a Blessed Week. Fr. Harrigan Pastor This grieving girl witnessed her father travel from purgatory to heaven By Philip Kosloski All because she had three Masses said for the repose of his soul. During the 17th century, a grieving young girl approached Benedictine Abbot Millán de Mirando at the monastery of Our Lady of Montserrat. She begged the abbot to say three Masses for her deceased father. The young girl was totally convinced that these Masses would speed her father on his way to heaven, releasing him from the pains of purgatory. Moved by the girl’s child-like faith, the abbot said the first Mass the next day. During the Mass the young girl was kneeling and as she looked up she saw her father near the altar where the priest was saying the Mass. She described her father as “kneeling, surrounded by frightening flames” and located at the bottom step of the altar. The priest was alerted to this miraculous phenomenon and he instructed the girl to place a piece of tissue where her father was kneeling. The tissue immediately started on fire for all to see, though the priest could not see the child’s father. This represented her father being purified by the flames of purgatory. A second Mass was said for the repose of her father’s soul and again the little girl saw her father. This time he was up a step standing next to the deacon and was “dressed in a vibrantly colored suit.” At this stage her father was still in purgatory, but no longer touched by its flames. At the third Mass she saw her father for the last time. During the Eucharistic celebration he was “dressed in a snow-white suit,” but then something extraordinary happened at the conclusion of Mass. The little girl exclaimed, “There is my father going away and rising into the sky!” She no longer had to worry about the soul of her father as she knew with confidence that he had reached the gates of heaven.

Did You Know?/¿Sabia Usted? Family travel safety rules: If you’re traveling to spend Thanksgiving with friends or family, it’s important that everyone in your group is up to speed on travel safety, and this safety starts at home. Make sure you have plans in place that let friends and family know where you’re headed, and set up your house to look “lived-in” when you’re on the road. Teach kids to pack smart—avoid bringing unneeded valuables and carry only the necessary ID cards and money in the event of an emergency. Congratulations to the 6th Annual Pro-Life Essay Contest Winner “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these

may forget, yet I may not forget you.”

Life is 100% the most beautiful thing in this universe. But why would anyone take one away? In fact for the simple reason that they don’t want a child yet because it’s too soon, and for many other reasons. But doing that to a harmless life is absolutely wrong. The baby did practically nothing to that parent. This first sentence quote is looking upon abortion and how a mother should never

leave her own child behind or have no compassion for they should love them. The second sentence of the quote is talking referring to God that he will never forget you even though your mother has, for he is representing a father figure to all of us.

In the first sentence of the quote it’s questioning the fact of a mother taking her Child’s life away because she doesn’t want it. A mother aborts her child mostly because she’s not ready. In my opinion, If a mother isn’t ready, they should give them off to an orphanage to at least give the harmless child a life to live. Every mother should love their own child of their womb because that’s a next generation version of themselves, a part of them will live through their child. In the second sentence of the verse, it reflects upon the fact that even though they think they don’t have a real parent, God is the father of all of us, for he has eternal, unconditional love for each and every one of us. The first part of the sentence says “even these may forget”, it’s referring to the mother’s who weren’t ready to give birth to their child so they aborted the harmless life. Then it says “yet I may not forget you.” That part of the verse is God, speaking to us, speaking to every lost unborn child. God speaks of himself as having a tenderness love for everyone , that even though a mothers affection and love may wear off, God’s love is eternal. In conclusion, this verse from The Bible is so strong and meaningful. It’s speaks on so many levels to every mother, and also everyone else showing us that God will always love us. God's love is eternal, and unconditional. A mother should never leave her child behind, for the child did nothing wrong.

In today's Gospel Jesus is inviting us to stay awake and reminding us about a bigger journey: the journey that will take us to eternity. We are to be

like firefighters who are trained and equipped to fight fires. They know there will be fires, but they don't know when. So they are in a constant state of readiness. In complete trust and hope, we prepare for the journey, and are ready, alert and awake.

Adult Faith Formation session will take place on Tuesday, November 14 at 7:00 pm in church. The topic is Death and Dying: facing the end. The topic is appropriate especially during this month of November when we are invited to pray for all our loved ones who have gone before us. This session is for the parents of children who are preparing for First Holy Communion. All are welcome to attend.
