REFLEC FOR 33TH SUNDAY IN C JUDGMENT IS COMING

Last Sunday, our readings began this reflection about the after-life and urged us to entrust ourselves into God’s hands, for He is the God of the living. Today again the liturgy wants to call our attention to the fact that the end of all things will come and then there will be judgment. That this world, with its beauty will all come to an end. Some how the liturgy paints a frightening picture of this end, with statements like "nation shall rise against nation, plagues and famines, fearful omens and great signs, persecutions and trials" will all take place. Understanding these statements about the end time has distracted humanity all through history. Many sects and groups have arisen to claim to know the exact date of the Lord’s coming, and the failure of previous predictions never seems to discourage them from settling on another date for Armageddon. This continues to confuse and distract many Christians from the actual message about how to prepare for the Day of the Lord. But how should we understand and interpret the message of Jesus about the end of time?

I see today's readings as an invitation to us to reflect on the end of the world, not in an atmosphere of panic or fear but in an atmosphere of Christian commitment and Christian confidence by using our talents and resources not for selfish purposes but for the purpose of building God’s kingdom on earth. The first reading assures us of God's justice when we shall appear before him on judgment day. While St. Paul and Jesus want us to know that the end will bring us an understanding of what it is like being Christ-like. That at the end time, Christ will come as the Sun of Justice. All those who are like him will live forever with him; and like him, they will shine like the sun. So if we are like Christ in his first coming, in his suffering, we will be found like him at his second coming, too.

Correct understanding of the message about end time makes us see the challenge we have from the readings more than the fear. The readings seem to have looked at the sum of our life’s work and ask, ‘What have you done with the time you have had’? "How ready are you to give account of your stewardship here on earth"? In truth, the central message is a call to live with a purpose. To use what we have been given, because there will be a reckoning. We will give an account! It is a call to share the gifts of goodness with others. What good is the Good news if we keep it to ourselves? Christ’s mes-sage – the Good News of compassion, of mercy, of justice, of hope, of love – is meant to be lived. It is meant to be shared. It is meant to be spread to others. Are we doing that or are we too frightened of what that might involve? This should be our main concern and not about any catastrophe like wars or falling stars. Fr. Julius

FULFILLED-Uncovering the Biblical Foundations of Catholicism- PART ONE

On Thursday, December 5th, we will begin our new series on “Fulfilled” in the John Paul II House garage. “Fulfilled” explores the biblical roots of the Catholic Faith. It uncovers God’s consistent design for our worship of him and his relationship with us. Learn how the Old Testament Tabernacle can be used as a blueprint for the Catholic Faith and how Jesus fulfilled it in the New Testament. Part One focuses on the elements found in the outer sanctuary of the Tabernacle and how they connect to the liturgical calendar, the priesthood, purgatory, baptism, and more.

Cost of the program is $25 for the workbook and companion book.

If you are interested in attending any of this Faith Formation opportunities, please call the Religious Education Office to register.

Dear Family, Over 50% of our school families qualify for free or reduced lunch and every redirected tax dollar makes a difference. The Giving Tuesday challenge is a dollar for dollar match offered by Catholic Education Arizona (C.E.A.). Last year, Our Lady of the Lake Parish was #1 in the matching challenge. Can we strive for a second year? Let’s keep our #1 spot by redirecting our tax dollars for Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic School. Because all envelopes or transactions must be post-marked on December 3rd, we will be collecting completed envelopes in the parish and school office. Please call Liz in the school office for help or more information (928) 855-0154. Ms. Mu

Remembering our Loved Ones

By tradition the Catholic Church dedicates the month of November to the

Holy Souls in Purgatory, those faithful Christians who have died and

gone before us but who still must atone for their sins. The time they spend in

Purgatory cleanses them so that they may enter Heaven free from all effects of

sin.

Praying for the dead, especially for those we have known, is part of Christian charity. Our

own prayers and sacrifices can be offered up to relieve their suffering.

The parish will offer over 40 Masses this November for all the faithfully departed whose

names are written in the Book of Memory located in the Narthex of the church.

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to pray for and remember your parents, children,

grandparents, family, and friends. Envelopes are available for your sacrificial offering to pray

for the deceased.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH RETREAT

with 500 other students, our teens will pray, meditate, and be inspired to grow deeper in love with Christ and His Church. The cost is $135.00 for the retreat ($50.00 deposit to hold your spot):

Discounts are available. Spaces are limited so reserve your spot ASAP.

LOST SPOUSE MASS

During the Month of November we remember our loved ones who have

gone before us. On Saturday, November 23rd, at 10:00 am we will have

the Mass for Those Who Have Lost a Spouse. We ask that you bring a

flower for your loved one and during Offertory you may bring your flower to

the Altar. A reception will follow the Mass in the Holy Family Parish Center.

Prayer to Saint Michael, the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and

do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYER (For those who are not able to receive Communion at this time)

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to

receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite

myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

Psalm 98

The Lord comes to rule the earth with justice.

Gather Your People Bob Hurd

Refrain Gather your people, O Lord. Gather your people, O Lord. One bread, one body, one spirit of love. Gather your people O Lord. Draw us forth to the table of life: brothers and sisters, each of us called to walk in your light. We are parts of the body of Christ, needing each other, each of the gifts the spirit provides. No more harm on the mountain of God; swords into plowshares. Free us, O Lord, from hardness of heart. Wash us, Lord, in the waters of life; waters of mercy, waters of hope that flow from your side.

Bread of Angels Curtis Stephan

Bread of angels, we receive you; with us now abide. Precious Jesus, manna of ages, with us now reside. Panis angélicus fit panis hóminum, Dat panis cáelicus figúris términum. Cup of Mercy overflowing, fill us with your grace; wine of passion, O Son begotten, we flee to your embrace. O res mirábilis mandúcat Dóminum, Pauper, Pauper, servus, et húmilis. Word incarnate, dwell within us; pierce our hardened hearts. Tender Jesus, Love so gentle, never let us part. Te, trina Déitas únaque, póscimus, Sic nos tu vísita, sicut te cólimus. Though unworthy, we receive you, sacrament divine. Bread of angels, accept our praises, let your glory shine! Per tuas sémitas duc nos quo téndimus, lucem, Ad lucemquam inhábitas.

How Can I Keep from Singing Robert Lowery

My life flows on in endless song, above earth’s lamentation. I hear the real though far-off hymn, that hails a new creation. Refrain: No storm can shake my in-most calm, while to that rock I’m clinging. Since love is Lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing. Through all the tumult and the strife, I hear that music ringing; it sounds and echoes in my soul; how can I keep from singing? What though the tempest ‘round me roar, I hear the truth it liveth. What though the darkness ‘round me close, songs in the night it giveth.

Seek Ye First Karen Lafferty

Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Allelu, Alleluia. Ask, and it shall be given unto you. Seek and ye shall find. Knock, and the door shall be opened unto you. Allelu, Alleluia. Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in their midst and whatsoever ye ask I will do. Allelu, Alleluia. Man shall not live by bread alone, but by ev’ry word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Allelu, Alleluia.

Creo Señor mío que estás realmente presente en el Santísimo Sacramento del altar. Te amo sobre todas las cosas y deseo ardientemente recibirte dentro de mi alma;

Amen.

Oración a San Miguel Arcángel

————–———————–— Tu Palabra Me Da Vida

Juan A. Espinosa

Gloria a Nuestro Dios Tradicional

Juan A. Espinosa
