    Passport to Adventure

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

Over the years, this quote has erroneously been attributed to Mark Twain.

However, credit for it must be given to author H. Jackson Brown's mother.

Regardless of the origin, it's still one of our favorite quotes.

Looking ahead!A taste of our Passport to Adventure 2016

The Loyd Files Research Library and Archives recently received three images of the 1912 Midland Trail expedition from the grandson of H.A. Bradeen.

In October 1912, H.A. Bradeen was one of the 27 motorists that drove ten cars from Grand Junction to Salt Lake City as part of A.L. Westgard's plan to create a national coast-to-coast auto highway. Westgard dubbed this route “The Midland Trail” and the Midland Trail Association was formed later that year in Grand Junction to promote it. The trail proved to be quite difficult with the road often dwindling to wagon tracks and deep mud causing problems as well. The motorists made the journey in 12 days and Salt Lake City greeted the pioneers with a banquet. The drivers shipped their cars home via railroad.

To learn more about The Midland Trail, please visit the Loyd Files Research Library and Archives. Our winter hours are Monday 10 am - 1 pm, Tuesday through Thursday 10 am - 4 pm, and Friday 10 am - 1 pm.
