Principal’s Report

One week to go until ‘Pages in Time”

The excitement is building at school as we get closer and closer to our Performance

date of Thursday 20th September. For those of you still to purchase your tickets, the

instructions have been included again in this week’s newsletter. Remember you can

come to the matinee, night, or both if you just can’t get enough of our wonderful per-

formers.

Poetry Competition

It was such an honour, to watch the students from K-6 recite their poems for the

Poetry Competition finals on Tuesday. It was wonderful to see such talented speak-

ers, delivering their poems in such a clear and expressive manner. Congratulations

to everyone who participated. The winners are listed in the newsletter.

Kindergarten 2019

I can hardly believe we are back at this time of the year where we are asking you if

either your children, or the children of someone you know, is gearing up to start

school in 2019.

In order to make sure we can plan ahead regarding teachers and classes, please

make sure that you have contacted the office to let us know you will be sending your

Congratulations Tomaree on your fantastic effort to show your true colours and support the Fight Can-

cer Foundation by wearing your team colours.

We were able to raise $537.75 to support the foundation in their work to find a cure for cancer.

Footy Colours Day

Mr Hughes S1H

My name is Gary Hughes and I commenced working as a Stage 1 classroom teacher

at Tomaree Public School at the beginning of this term.

Prior to completing my teaching degree in 2007, I worked as a Child Development

Officer for Lake Macquarie City Council for almost 10 years. This year will be my

tenth year of teaching in primary schools. Some of the highlights have included:

teaching at an international school in Germany in 2013-2015, acting as AFL School

Ambassador and meeting players from the Sydney Swans, presenting a workshop at

the Working with Boys in Early Childhood national conference in Melbourne and

working as part of a team of staff and parents to establish the Stephanie Alexander

Kitchen program at Mayfield East Public School.

Now that my daughter Jessica has grown up, I like to travel overseas as much as possible in my personal time. I have visited

almost 30 countries around the world – at the end of this month I will travel to Israel. I like to spend my weekends in my

kayak or at the beach. I am studying German at a B2 level and I enjoy cooking with fresh produce from the Newcastle

Farmer’s Markets every Sunday.

I feel very fortunate to be working at Tomaree and have already met so many kind staff, students and parents who have

made me feel welcome at the school. I look forward to becoming an integral part of the Tomaree Education learning com-

munity.

TPS PBL Focus for this week is:

RESPONSIBILITY

Right place at the right time

Please refer to the school website for further information.
