Definition

Also known as “grave tourism”, “cemetery tourism” or “grave hunting”.

Tourists visit the graves of their idols and other famous individuals all over the world; the graves of people like Elvis Presley or Marilyn Monroe attract lots of people every year.

It also refers to the visiting of old and famous cemeteries rather than the their denizens.

Historically, it derives from the pilgrimage to the graves of religious figures and people who travelled to visit their own ancestors’ graves. It was done worldwide.
