The River
(We rehearsed an uptempo bluegrass version of this tune, but during a break, Larry began to play and
sing in Delta-blues style while wailing on the resonator guitar which was so killer, we came up with an
arrangement combining the two.

(lyrics by Larry Moore)
Sitting on this river drinking her out of my mind She left me one morning said that she'd done her time
Standing at the station leaving her troubles behind She's leaving Cincinnati Lord Lord and I'm about to loose my mind
Alone on this river so lonesome I could cry Listening to the sounds as the midnight baby passes by
Don't know where she's gone or where she may be It maybe Chicago lord lord maybe Nashville Tennessee
I miss here already can't get here out of my mind I was so in love with her why was she so unkind
She's on that ole greyhound I don't know if I am lost in time I wish we were together once again going back on time
Alone on this river so lonesome I could cry Listening to the sounds as the midnight passes by
Don't know where she's gone or where she may be It maybe Chicago lord lord maybe Nashville Tennessee
Alone on this river so lonesome I could cry Listening to the sounds as the midnight passes by
Don't know where she's gone or where she may be It may be Chicago lord lord maybe Nashville Tennessee It may be Chicago lord lord maybe Nashville Tennessee
It may be tomorrow lord lord she'll be coming home to me

The closest we came to an electric blues tune. )

(lyrics by Ron Liggett)
Some guy passes by and you flash him a smile
He gives you a wink and says call me sometime
Just when I’m ready to hear goodbye
You say let’s lay out under the stars tonight
You confuse me
I pay your bills and buy your clothes
but you run around with somebody we know
and when I’m set to say you’ve gone too far
You say let’s make love in the back of your car
I never learn my lesson
You always keep me guessing
And for me you’ll always be a mystery
Cause you confuse me
You spend the night and roll around with me
But comes the dawn I wake up and you’re gone
Leaving just a note and a pot of tea
That says give me a call when I get home
My friends tell me that I’m acting a fool
They say you’re using me like a tool
But I know how I feel when you’re at my door
It’s complicated and that’s for sure –

When the grid goes down and the lights go out
and friends and family are going without
We’ll fetch our water from underground streams
eat trapped meat and freeze dried beans
When the grid goes down the silence will be sweet
there’ll be no phone calls faxes or tweets
We’ll be ready for winter and weather the chill
when there’s no electric and the world stands still
While cities are burning and they riot in town
we’ll be snug in our bunker when the grid goes down
We built our shelters sturdy and deep
we did our prepping and tended our keep
We got weapons and plenty of rounds
we’ll defend our position when the grid goes down
If marauding bandits infiltrate our ground
we will take no prisoners when the grid goes down
When the grid goes down and it’s just you and me
we’ll have to repopulate humanity
clothing optional and birth control free
we’ll be the second coming of Adam and Eve
There’ll be quality time to cuddle and kiss
when the grid goes down it’s gonna be pure bliss! –

I've been sitting here looking for the train The brakeman tells me it's gonna be a long long wait
I don't understand it it's been so long Come on come on wont you take me home
The conductor tells me it won't be long I've been waiting to see my baby since the brake of dawn
She's waiting for me in our home town It's gonna be one hell of a night and I can't stop now
The train going home is a long long ride The girl waiting for me is going to be my bride
I can't help it by feeling this way The Change that's going on is going to be here to stay The trains pulling into the station time to get my bag
I can see my baby now she's holding the American flag The wars been so tough on me I can't believe I'm off of these tracks
The whole towns cheering welcome back welcome back welcome back The train going home is a long long ride
The girl waiting for me is going to be my bride I can't help it by feeling this way

The change that's going on is going to be here to stay All aboard –

This fine love is what I’m living for
Love like this always brings me back for more
What we’ve got and what it’s going to be
This fine love is custom made by you and me
I walked a lonely path in life
Day to day, night by night
Now I’ve found this love with you
Morning, night, the whole day through
What we’ve got and what it’s going to be
This fine love is custom made by you and me –

(lyrics by Ron Liggett)
In a dream I saw ghosts of the souls I miss the most
Friends and kin I loved who long ago passed on
And for a moment, it was like they’d never gone
It was my Pops and my sainted Mother
Brought my loved ones all together
We drank toasts told old jokes and sang along
Just like those joyful days gone by when we were young
I saw ghosts in my dream and they sang in harmony
Apparitions from my past reached out to me
All my life I’ve gained and lost every treasure has a cost
In the morning light I wakened reassured
And the dawning sun shone brighter than before
A trace of mystic in the air
Evidence that they’d been there
When I think I’ve lost my way under the sun
Page 13 of 28
Ghosts remind me that I’m right where I belong
I saw ghosts in my dream and they sang in harmony
Apparitions from my past reached out to me
Just to tell me that their love will always be –

(Lyrics by Ron Liggett)
3AM or maybe it was 4
I found my key
But it won’t unlock your door
The same old key
I’ve used a thousand times before
It set my mind to wonder
If I’d have to spend the night outdoors
I rang the bell
More than once but no one came
Knocked on your window
Called out your name
I phoned your number
But they said you disconnected the line
That’s when I was certain
You’d locked me out on purpose this time
(so I started shouting)
Baby I’m locked out
With nowhere to go
If our love affair is over
You never let me know
You set out my belongings
In a paper sack beside the door
With a notice of eviction
Saying don’t be coming ‘round no more
(How you gonna lock a brother out in the cold!)
Baby I’m locked out
With nowhere to go
If our love affair is over
You never let me know
Woohoo woohoo
With nowhere to go
(Hold on)
Just found a key in my pocket
That I’m sure unlocks your sister’s door
(I’ll go over and check out her biscuits and gravy)
(She just lives right around the corner) –

Way out in the middle of flyover country
Where the corn grows tall and the gravy’s never lumpy
A farmer’s in his field and he’s praying for his crop
Been waiting on the weather since who tied the pup
Who tied the pup Who tied the pup
Farmer in his field and he’s praying for his crop
Who tied the pup Who tied the pup
Been waiting on the weather since who tied the pup
Standing at the table with some dice in a cup
Got my baby by my side ‘cause she always brings me luck
Seven come eleven hope my number turns up
I’ll be rolling these bones ‘til who tied the pup
Who tied the pup Who tied the pup

Times were so good and then they turned bad
Page 19 of 28
We had a house but they took it back
They closed up the foundry. The diner was next.
We had a future
Now we’re all that’s left (they tried to put a curse on us baby)
We set high goals and rode the wave
Now we’ll feel lucky to be working again
Standing in line for a government check
Two bags of groceries
And some candy cigarettes (that candy’s for the babies you understand)
(They built everything on blood of the working class)
I’ve got you, and you’ve got me
We’ll make a home for our family
We got slapped down, now we’re jumping back up
Now we’re making the most
Of a half empty cup (Oh yeah, we gonna make it baby)
With the power of love and the strength of our backs
They can’t take the fight out of the working class
We’ve got these hands. We’ve got these hearts
We’ve got each other
That’s a jump right from the start (yeah we’re way ahead of the game baby)
It’s in the blood of the working class!
Thick as it gets! --

(Go ahead and cry. They can’t hold us down forever)

There was a girl in my hometown lived up on the hill
Went everywhere together she was my dream fulfilled
Her hair so soft and fragrant and wonder in her eyes
The air was filled with magic whenever she walked by
One day mom said son you’re grown, it’s time you took a wife
Gather up your one true love and make that girl your bride
But I was young foolish, my heart was set to roam
I packed my bags and said farewell to the one I left back home
I sailed the mighty ocean, braved the raging storm
Off to seek my fortune bound for distant shores
In search of monetary gain I cheated and connived
And lost my taste for simple things where all true riches lie
I wore the finest clothing, drank expensive wine
I could not purchase happiness, but Lord knows how I tried
Gold and silver cursed me with an empty place inside
In time I had forsaken love for avarice and pride
I romanced girls across the world Paris, Prague, and Rome
No other gal could trim my jib like the one I left back home
I sailed the mighty ocean, braved the raging storm
But I could never quench my lust or satisfy my soul
Page 22 of 28
In a letter Mom began: Dear Son, I hope you’re not too late
The one you left back home might be the one that got away
I saw a suitor call on her she let him in the door
It seems you stand to lose your love if she must wait much more
So I booked passage on a ship, her Captain brave and true
He said the weather could get rough but we’ll keep pushing through
But halfway home wild wind and waves condemned our fate to doom
Captain crew and passengers shared a watery tomb
I sailed the mighty ocean , braved the raging storm
My loveless soul was lost at sea, lived and died alone
For those who hear this dead man’s tale waste no tears to mourn
Greed is but a malady and offers no reward
I chose my path ran my course and spent my life in vain
Abandoning my one true love for wealth and worldly gain
I sailed the mighty ocean, braved the raging storm
But now I’ll miss that wedding kiss from the one I left back home –

Riding This Rock
(It’s all a round trip. This song’s concept was inspired by the music of David Bowie. We should also
mention riffs we imply from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix,
and Stevie Ray Vaughan as a tribute to their lasting imprint on rock music.)

A gravitatin’ sensation always holdin’ me in
Since mommy and daddy made the car windows steam

Found my own orbit Apex to apogee
I’m just ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock
Ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock
Ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock
Ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock
A revolutionary notion a circular motion
It’s all good baby ‘cause I’m ridin’ this rock
It’s all good baby ‘cause I’m ridin’ this rock
It’s all good baby ‘cause I’m ridin’ this rock with you
It was set in stone long before time had begun
Now we’re passengers on the third one from the sun
Now you and me make the car windows steam
and confess our interplanetary dreams
We’re just ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock
Ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock

Ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock ridin’ this rock

If you ask about my baby this is what I’ll say
she makes a better man of me in every way
Whatever I risk she’s my reward
She’s the after to my before
She picks me up when I fall down
If I pass out she brings me around
she rubs me down if I get sore
if I’ve got a fever she finds the cure
She’s my one and only
fits right in to my category
my karma, my dharma, the yin to my yang
she just loves me for the man I am
If I have an itch she’ll scratch my back
She’ll change the flat on my Cadillac
She gives me directions if I lose my way
She sets my alarm so I won’t be late
I went to the crossroads late last June
Handed ol’ Scratch my guitar to tune
he said sell me your soul and teach you the blues
but if you throw in your woman, I’ll make you rich too!
(I said hell no! That’s no deal Scratch! Not in this lifetime!) –

I’ve lived my life in a reckless way
Wasted hours night and day
But then I found that life made sense with you
Joined together one from two
Now I reflect upon my youthful bliss
Carelessness, foolishness
But when it comes to you there’s nothing I would change
From the top full replay
I wouldn’t trade a single memory
Moments shared, places seen
Can’t even think of living life without you
Everyday ends too soon
Seems like these times should last forever
I mean the way it is just now
Can’t see a way it could get better
No better than it is just now –
