Tough man actor, Clint Eastwood, made his singing debut with the

song, “I Talk to the Trees” from the 1969 movie/musical, Paint Your Wagon. The Smothers Brothers

followed with a comedy routine (“Hello, Mr. Tree! How’s Mrs. Tree and all the little bushes?”). Well, talking to trees is no longer a laughing matter. For $3,400, Amos Clifford can teach you how to talk to trees by means of the art of “Forest Bathing.” Forest Bathing is based on the concept that people trek too quickly through the forest and need to slow down. Don’t simply observe nature; bathe in it. Clifford says, “I want everybody to find a tree that’s your twin. Talk to your tree. Ask your twin about yourself. Find out all you can from your tree. Put your hand on your tree. Take your time to get to know your tree.” I can only guess that this is coming to a public school near you.Why would anyone want to talk to inanimate trees when they can have access to the Almighty One who created them? Even more so, He created humanity, the universe, and all that exists in it! Yet, in this pantheistic world of Zen/New Age madness, that question is not even considered, and for good reason.Talking to bark, leaves, and cellulous does not provoke conviction. There is no confrontation with truth, just you and your imagination. Whatever conclusion you come to becomes a consensus of one. Unlike the revelations produced by the Scriptures, human philosophy provides a potion for instant gratification as the solution to your crisis. It is believing in a remedy to life from a re-labeled bottle of snake oil.God’s Word, on the other hand, “pierces even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). It stands as the eternal discerner of right and wrong, good and evil, and grace and judgement. It is the ultimate disseminators of truth. You don’t need a twin, you need a Savior. Jesus is the Word that became flesh. He took your place on a cross, suffered your punishment, died for your sins but rose from the dead for your salvation. Jesus is not a tree; “He is the vine and we are the branches” (John 15:5). Don’t talk to trees; abide in Christ.

HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL AND HAPPY IN LIFEHABITS OF HAPPINESS

April 29, 2018

I. EVERY DAY: ___________ IN WHAT GOD HAS DONE FOR YOU.

Phil. 3:3, “Who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.” (NKJV)

A. You need to understand the difference between religion and Christianity. Christianity is a ________________.

A relationship has many more benefits than a religion. 1. A religion is trying to get you into a ____________ group. 2. A relationship means that you are _____________ in that group. B. The difference between ____________ and a relationship. 1. Religion is what you ______ for God. 2. Relationship is what God has _________ for you.

SO, WHAT IS GRACE? 3. Grace is God’s unmerited _________. C. In the Bible, the word "joy" is the Greek word “__________.” In the Bible, the word "grace" is the word “____________.” They come from the same root word – “chara” and “charis.” 1. Joy and grace go________________. 2. The more you __________ in the grace of God, the more joy you're going to have in your life. II. REMEMBER WHAT _____________ __________.Phil. 3:7, “But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.”(NKJV)

A. Every day WE need to remember what matters most. When we get up in the morning we need to remind ourselves what ________ and what _________ _______. Ex. 20:9, “Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.”(NKJV)Heb. 10:25, “Let us not neglect our church meetings, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near.”(TLB)

B. Why is remembering what matters most so important in ______-____-_______ life?

Have you realized: 1. It is easy to lose your joy over some __________ thing? C. Why is remembering what matters most so important for our ___________?Phil. 3:7, “But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.”(NKJV)

D. How do you know if you've really been saved? How do you know if you've been saved by Jesus Christ? One way is that Your ____________ change. 1. You can't have somebody as big as ______ come into your life and it not change you. Salvation changes your values.

Here's the problem: 2. When you first become a Christian you realize that. As time goes on the world around you tries to ______________ you back into thinking the stuff that's not important is important. 3. If you're going to be a whole lot happier than everybody else, you've got to focus not on what's ____________ but what's _____________.

Every day remember what matters most.
