The Benefits and Barriers of Small to Mid-Scale LNG Interview by Pranay Shukla, LNG OneWorld Journal

Tony Acton, Principal of ActOn LNG Consulting, joins Pranay Shukla, Editor of LNG OneWorld journal, to talk about the emergence of small to mid-scale LNG, the benefits and

uses of smaller sized projects and the cost challenges facing smaller projects. P Shukla: Please can you introduce yourself with a brief overview of your current role? T Acton: I run a management consultant company helping the LNG industry to grow. We’ve been trading successfully for 18 months, since I retired from my role as Project Director in BG Group. I spent about 30 years in the LNG business there, in a number of technical, safety and development roles. P Shukla: Today I would like to talk about some of the hot topics that will be covered at the event. Firstly, how has 2010 been for the LNG industry? What, in your opinion, have been the key highlights for the industry in general? T Acton: There’s been some consolidation following the difficult economic times of 2009, when energy demand actually fell. A number of new terminals have started up, and several new projects have been sanctioned. I’d single out export projects - start up of the mid-scale plant in Peru and the big Quatari plants, and the sanction of two coal bed methane to LNG projects in Queensland, Australia. P Shukla: At the conference we will be focusing on small to mid-scale LNG projects. What is your opinion on the emergence of small to mid-scale LNG?
