    10. Wai Ying Fastfood

There are two branches of this Hong Kong-style restaurant. It is a no-frills restaurant where you

get what you want cheap and fast. Taste-wise the food there are above what Chowking has to

offer but may not fare well to even the average of restaurants in Hong Kong. Still, some of the

menu items are worth the trip there. Dont expect too much on the ambience though.

What to order: Ham Soi Kok, Hakaw for Dimsums; Fish Congee, Beef Curry Rice; Spare Ribs pot

rice and Fish Fillet Rice with corn sauce for Main; Get a taste of HK Milk tea or Lemon Tea in hot

or iced too! While youre at it, Take home some Asado.

Budget: Meal (Food and Drinks) ~ P200-300/person; Take out ~ P200-400/order

Find them in: Two branches along Benavidez Street, the one in front of Hope Christian High

School is bigger while the one near Ongpin is smaller and mostly caters to Take-out orders.

    9. Tasty Dumplings

Whats more Chinese than Dumplings? Well actually, it isnt a proprietary trademark of our friends

in the north, Japanese call it Gyoza while other nations such as Vietnam also has some form of

Dumpling. Trivia aside, Tasty dumplings is famous for their dumplings! Who wouldve thought?

Their Fried Porkchop is also one of their bestsellers. Pair it up with their signature Soya Milk and

    youre set for the day.

    Budget: ~ P150-200/person

Find them in: Theres one near Binondo Church and another one in Aguilar Street, Binondo.

    8. Masuki

If noodle in your thing, youll never go wrong with Masuki Noodle House! Their first branch ever is

located in Benavidez street near Ongpin and directly across Wan Chai tea house is home to one

of the best Beef Noodle you can find in Chinatown. Although I must warn you that there is adistinct smell that doesnt go away and locals generally think of it as part of the ambience. Smell

for yourself as we cant quite describe it. If youre too afraid, youre in Luck, the Megamall branch

opened in 2011 to cater to people from the north of the metro!

What to order: Siopao, Beef Noodles, and Siomai.

    Budget: ~P200/person

    7. Lanzhou Lamien

Speaking of noodles, have you tried hand-tossed noodles? Well, Lanzhou Lamien is one of the

recent newcomers in the scene. Their signature open kitchen where you can see their Chef handtoss and knead the noodle dough until it magically becomes strands of noodles is pure

awesomeness for us mortals. Quickly getting a cult following, their two main branches seems to

be always full during Lunch and Dinner Rush.

What to order: Youll never go wrong with Beef Lamien (P120) and while youre at it, get a full

order of steamed or fried dumplings (P160 for 16 pcs.) The serving size is good for 2 for both of

them but I also see people able to finish the orders all by themselves.

    Budget: ~P200/person

    6. Presidents Restuarant

If youre feeling Royal at the moment, why not try a more upscale Chinese dining experience at

Ongpin with Presidents Restaurant. The original branch is still up and running at Ongpin street

and has undergone a major facelift some years ago. Their menu is huge and the prices are too

but youll never go wrong with food quality for their popular dishes though. Try their Yangchow

Fried Rice or Hot Prawn Salad.

    Budget: P400-600/person

    5. Mr. Ube

Oh look! Another noodle house, Owned by the operator of Eng Bee Tin, Mr. Ube spins off from

Just your traditional Hopia store. They have Rice and Noodles dishes that will surely satisfy your

cravings while also being easy on the pocket. Try their Beef Maki Noodles for that thick

consistency that you wont find in the noodle restaurants mentioned above. Their Siopao is also

nice and on your way out, you can grab some Hopias and other Chinese delicacies found on the

    shelves just after the entrance.

    Budget: P150-200

Tip: If youre really into food trips and has some extra change to spare, the Caf Mezzanine is

also owned by Mr. Ube, its a cheaper alternative bordering on carinderia-style Chinese food (no

Aircon though) the food selection are otherwise good.

    4. Uno Restaurant

Tucked away in the now-forgotten Escolta street, UNO Seafood Wharf Pala still draws crowds

owning up to the old adage: build it and they will come. This place specializes in seafood

delicacies but their Chinese menu from Pancit Canton to Fried rice are not bad and actually goes

well with their main dishes. Its the typical Chinese Seafood restaurant with live fish and crab

displays in an aquarium beside the walls to give you a sense of freshness. Try their Steamed

Crab, Prawns Over Garlic, Cold Cuts and Fried Kangkong.

    Budget: ~ P500/person for 2 or P320/person for 5 and up (sharing viands/ulam)

    3. Sincerity

I only recently came to know about Sincerity Restuarant. With Its humble beginnings at

Masangkay Street, their new store operates inside Lucky Chinatown Mall, an upscale mall built by

Megaworld in the center of Binondo. Their updated aesthetics to me is a plus while their food is

by my friends word: consistent and yummy! I tried their food first at their new branch in LCMand was blown away by two dishes: Fried Chicken and Oyster Cake these two are the bang-for-

buck dishes that they have and two of their bestsellers in-store. You cant beat Sinceritys Fried

Chicken with its special coating and always juicy meat. If you are in the area and you have to eat

at only one place with a budget below 300, this should top your list.

    Budget: ~P200-300

    2. Wan Chai

I may be crazy in putting Wan Chai at #2 but it reserved a special place in my heart (yes, Imsubjective). All this isnt for naught, their food is quite good and if you need a restaurant that is

quite better than Wai Ying/Sincerity but below what you expect from Presidents/Uno, this is the

place. The ambiguity of either bringing your family OR your barkada is there since their menu

prices can go both ways. Whats more awesome is the fact that theyre open til 12mn and some

of their menu items have discounts after 9PM. Try their Chicken Feet dimsum, Hakaw (which

tastes nearly to Wai Ying, same price), Yangchow Fried Rice and Sweet and Sour Pork. Their

Beef Button Mushroom with Oyster Sauce is also worth of note. They also serve rice bowl meals

    for single-person.

Find them in Masangkay street, Just across Masuki nearer to Ongpin Street.

    Budget: ~150-400/person

    1. Golden Fortune

Finally my number one pick would be another not so budget friendly but still yummy seafood

restaurant located at the dead end of Sabino Padilla Street and along Soler Street, youll find this

diamond in Binondo. Their food are always consistent and their service are good for a Chineserestaurant. The waiting staff knows their food and knows how to treat customers fairly well. It, too

had undergone renovations but its already showing its age, again. If youre going to try staple

popular Chinese foods on top of your mind, go here. If youre lucky enough they may still be

offering their dimsum all you can promo because their dimsums are one of the best in Binondo.

Feeling like a cook? Their tables can turn into a Shabu shabu table and an accompanying menu

will let you order sets of foods to cook in your choice of soup. Place gets crowded especially on

the weekends so arrive early with your family and friends.

Budget ~300-600/person depending on the number of people.

Honorable Mentions: Ling Nam, Ying Ying, Sa Lido, King Chef, Tao Yuan, Hole-in-the-wallChinese restaurant along Sabino Padilla beside Mang Inasal, Suzhou Dimsum (Xiao Long

Bao), and many more! I honestly havent tried all of the restaurant in Binondo and I have

lived here for more than 10 years already! Cant make up your mind? Just take a stroll

down Ongpin Street and you will surely find something for your palate. After all, most of

them are closer together than you think. What are your favorites? Share in the comments

    section below.
