2016 was a strong year for the door and window indus-
try with many companies posting impressive growth. While we didn’t ask for 2017 numbers, some compa-nies offered them anyway, giving us a hint at what this new year may bring. American Vision Windows in Simi Valley, Calif., for example, projects $57 million in 2017 up from $51 mil-lion in 2016. What’s more impressive is that 100 percent of this business is in doors and windows. Millwork Solutions projects $93 million, up from $85 million in 2016. And 76 percent of that will come from doors and windows. Several companies also announced 2017 will bring new locations. Associated Building Supply (ABSi) will expand into two more mar-kets. West Shore Windows and Doors in Mechanicsburg, Pa., grew from $19 million to $25 million in revenue as it went from one to two locations.
Newpro Windows in Woburn, Mass., increased from $20 million to $24 mil-lion-plus in projected revenue for 2016.
When asked the reason for that huge jump, the answer from Nick Cogliani, president, was simple. “It really comes down to leads and sales training.”
Although revenue has increased, challenges did have an effect on the bottom line in 2016, as ABSi’s Scott Thurber explains.
“We didn’t anticipate this, but the third quarter slowed down due to a decline in consumer confidence trig-gered by the ‘stress’ of the election campaigns. In addition, we had a few veteran salespeople whose builder base wasn’t as strong as it was the year before. We didn’t lose business; projects were delayed and pushed out to a later date. We’re carrying over a 2016 backlog into 2017 of over $2 million in closed business.”
At Lifetime Windows and Siding in Denver, revenue went from $8 million to $15 million.
“In the past year we have maintained our core value of quality before quanti-ty,” said Johanna Snow, digital market-ing manager. “We increased advertis-ing on television and radio, we are a
mainstay at home shows and events, as well as increasing the size and reach of our canvassing department.”
2017 is sure to see more growth as the company is expanding into Phoenix and will continue to grow into more states after that. (For more stories from our top dealers, see page 4.)
About the ListDWM editors did a great deal of
research, scouring various sources and conducting field surveys for the latest annual sales and other infor-mation.
