Top D-FW homebuilders increased construction in 2015

A look at the top homebuilders in North Texas shows not much change in the rankings over the last year.

The ten largest builders in the Dallas-Fort Worth area accounted for almost half of the single-family home starts in 2015, according to a study by Residential Strategies Inc.

North Texas home sales surged in December to set record for 2015

D-FW-area new home starts up 4.5 percent in fourth quarter

And most of the biggest builders had increases in local starts last year.

Fort Worth-based D.R. Horton continued to lead the big builder list with more than three times the construction of its closet competitor.

Horton and its Emerald and Express home divisions started 4,468 D-FW houses last year, Residential Strategies reports.

“D.R. Horton continues to have such dominance in this market,” said Residential Strategies Ted Wilson. “They continue to expand their Express Homes construction.”

A newcomer on the top builder list for 2015 was CalAtlantic Homes, which merged the Standard Pacific and Ryland companies.

And Megatel Homes made it into the list of top 10 builders for the first time.

D-FW homebuilders started more than 27,000 homes in 2015. It was the best year for local building since before the Great Recession.

But home starts in the area remain about 40 percent less than they were a decade ago.
