Alexandria assists the residents on the third floor in what her supervisor describes as a very compassionate and caring manner. She is quick to answer their calls and is never selfish with her time. I think we can all agree time is a most precious commodity and very important in the caregiving business. To quote Pastor Rick Warren, “the greatest gift you can give someone is your time.” It is no doubt this willingness to share her time is one of the many reasons Alex is so highly regarded among the assisted living residents here at Glenbrooke. Congratulations again, Alexandria. May you always stay as generous of spirit as you are today. Resident of the Month Congratulations to Gladys Scanlan, Resident of the Month. Gladys spends a lot of time reading, as is evidenced by her time in the Glenbrooke Library as well as her participation in our Book Club. Gladys can also be counted on to add to the fun at Glenbrooke’s Special Events, and who can resist that infectious laugh? Added to her fun side is her deep well of kindness. If you are a person in need, Gladys will be there to help, most times without being asked. Henry James once said, “Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.” Were Mr. James to meet Ms. Scanlan today, he would no doubt agree that she has easily mastered all three. Congratulations, again, Gladys, it is indeed an honor to count you as part of our Glenbrooke family. Top DogsThey steal our hearts and make us laugh. Some of the world’s most memorable stars have been canines. Celebrate these “pup” culture icons on National Dog Day, Aug. 26.

Petey — The original pooch in “The Little Rascals” had a partial black circle around one eye, which makeup artists completed with dye, giving him the distinctive look he’s known for.

Pluto — Since 1930, Mickey Mouse’s pet and faithful sidekick has entertained audiences with his silly facial expressions and playful personality.

Toto — Dorothy’s loyal companion, who journeyed with her from their Kansas farm to a magical land in the classic film “The Wizard of Oz,” was played by a black cairn terrier named Terry.

Snoopy — Sleeping on top of his doghouse, pretending to be a World War I flying ace, and writing stories on his typewriter are just a few of the quirky pastimes of Charlie Brown’s pet beagle in the “Peanuts” comic strip.

Benji — This heroic mixed-breed mutt, whose box office film debut was in 1974, got in many predicaments but always managed to save the day.

Glenbrooke is not without its own line-up of canine stars which includes Puddin’, Redskin, Sarge and Sasha, just to mention a few. It’s been said a dog is the only thing on Earth that loves you more than he loves himself. Is it any wonder they are often considered part of the family?

Alexandria assists the residents on the third floor in what her supervisor describes as a very compassionate and caring manner. She is quick to answer their calls and is never selfish with her time. I think we can all agree time is a most precious commodity and very important in the caregiving business. Congratulations again, Alexandria. May you always stay as generous of spirit as you are today.

Resident of the MonthCongratulations to Gladys Scanlan, Resident of the Month. Congratulations, again, Gladys, it is indeed an honor to count you as part of our Glenbrooke family.

Boogie Down at the DiscoPut on your boogie shoes and join us for “Boogie Down at the Disco,” on Thursday, Aug. 17, at 6:30 p.m., in the clubhouse for light refreshments, music and dancing to the disco sound.
