January, we are delighted to announce that this exciting

showcase is set to make its debut appearance this September. Spotted Plus will be welcoming back 6 handpicked designers from January’s Spotted, to present their latest ranges to the retail trade market for the second time this year.

Once again, Top Drawer partner with leading trend forecasting agency Trend Bible to present the key trends for the coming seasons. Trend Bible is an authority on home interior and lifestyle trends working with retailers, brands

and manufacturers to forecast design and colour trends up to two years ahead of the season.

Director Joanna Feeley explains below the importance of trends to retailers and what you can expect to see at the show.

“We began working on our Summer 2013 trends back in early 2011, starting with discussion and debate among our team of experts at our bi-annual Trend Panel. As always, we begin each season by analysing social, economic, cultural and consumer behaviour information to help us build a picture of what we think the future will look like. Our in - house team work with a network of industry experts to refine our trend and colour stories and ensure they are commercially workable for all market levels. We’re delighted to be bringing four key trends to Top Drawer this season, and demonstrating how the audience can buy into the key looks through our Product Cards.”

Melissa’s Pick, Sales Executive

After seeing all the hundreds of ranges on offer at Cosmoprof recently, it became clear that Wellbeing brands need that

something extra to stand out from the competition. MOR Cosmetics for example, grab your attention in an instant with their lovingly created packaging and uniquely blended scents. I particularly love the Belladonna Perfume Oil in its great handbag size whilst the bold colours mean I won’t lose it in the bottom of my Mary Poppins handbag! A great Christmas gift for all my fashion-forward friends. MOR Cosmetics, G5

Julie - Anne’s Pick, Sales Executive

Being a board game fanatic I loved Ginger Fox’s board

game collection, especially the 1930’s inspired “Dinner with the Mafia”. Making it a great gift that can be shared with all who take part. i.e. Me! Ginger Fox, D127

Fran’s Pick, Marketing Manager

I am a big fan of Chase & Wonder’s Victorian-inspired designs, that they use across prints, cushions, and other

home and gift items. This ‘They ride above it’ cushions is one of my favourites. Chase & Wonder, B108

Tim’s Pick, Marketing Executive

My pick for Top Drawer is Esme Winter who can be found in the Spotted Plus section. I first saw Esme’s work at Top Drawer in

January, and was so impressed I bought a notebook on the spot. Her designs combine beautiful geometric patterns with really bold, yet understated colours. Esme’s range includes notebooks, wrapping paper, as well as one off bespoke pieces. Esme Winter is definitely one to watch for the future. Esme Winter, SPP3

Editors’ PicksRaj Gill, Show Director

Directing the Top Drawer show is always a pleasure, and this is in no small part down to the remarkable passion and knowledge shown by my team. This season, I wanted to give my

team members the opportunity to share their rich experience and make an “Editor’s Pick” for Top Drawer.

I hope this will not only make for an interesting read, but will also be an insight into the people behind the show, and how they go about making Top Drawer the special event that it is.

Taha’s Pick, Sales Director

Michelle’s Pick, Senior Sales Executive

From Premiere Class in Paris, to Ambiente in Frankfurt, to London Fashion Week

at Somerset House, the message has been consistent; people are still looking for that statement piece that manages to be versatile enough to appeal to a large market, but one that can still set off an outfit and get everyone talking. After spending a year visiting international fashion and gift shows and researching what is hot with the trade buyers, I am pleased that Top Drawer Autumn’s Fashion Accessories section has an excellent offering of products that meet these demands. One to watch this year is Jenny Sweetnam, who is making her debut to Top Drawer Autumn with her stunning silver and gold jewellery. Her pieces manage to be both classy and edgy at the same time, meaning they are sure to be a hit this season. Jenny Sweetnam, J3A

Selfridges W1/ Arguably, the world’s most influential department store

Fortnum & Mason W1/ There is more than fine food and wine; the Piccadilly store offers wonderful china and glass and a cook’s shop. Founded in 1707 the store has found a new lease of life after a multi million pound refit

Harrods SW1/ The store is enjoying record sales with massive investment from its new owners; a new golden age for this London icon

Liberty W1/ Re-invented with new style but retaining its heritage

Conran SW3/ Still the benchmark for British style and taste

House of Fraser W1/ See Mary Portas’ new offer of women’s fashion and home accessories

Boxpark Shoreditch E1/ The world’s first pop-up shopping mall, located in the heart of East London.

Brick Lane E1/ Affirmed itself as the number one destination for vintage shopping in London in recent years. Brick Lane’s vintage stores and quirky markets make it a fantastic place to hunt for a bargain, but it’s also just a nice place to relax, have a drink and people watch.

London has always been one of the world’s great shopping destinations, but the current offer is better than ever; department stores have re-invented themselves, street markets found new cult status, London villages have found

new retail vitality and independent stores add individual style. Museums and Galleries like the Tate Modern, the Whitechapel Gallery and the V&A provide an inspirational background of culture, style and design. Top Drawer capitalises on the creative vibe of the city by providing a platform for unique and inspiring products to help your store be at the forefront of the retail industry.

Product GB & ECO

With a greater acceptance of global environmental issues comes the awareness and benefits that sustainable products bring both to those that have made them and to us all; a result of which is that many of the larger high street stores are now jostling to dominate the ethical market, and so they should.

But where does this rise in well-designed ethical products come from? I believe it’s from smaller designer makers who are inspiring the market on a far larger scale than any of them could ever imagine. When I sit down to review the list of entrants for the Eco Trail I am overwhelmed with the passion, depth of care and lengths that these suppliers go to, to ensure that their products meet their moral ethical and environmental beliefs. You can see this with the likes of Filbert’s Bees’ (C103) wide range of lovingly-made products, but also in the depth of design and contemporary detailing of Space1a Design (A122). For me a true test of a season’s range of eco trail products lies in the number of times I send quick emails to my wife telling her to check out this site or another – products such as those found on Coulson Macleod (C32) which radiate out love, care, personal attention and, dare I say it, soul. I can tell you that this year sees me send more emails than ever before!

No wonder the high street is desperate to capture this outpouring of “better products”- for me it’s this blend of ethical provenance and good design that combine to make a winning product not just in the world of sustainable retail, but for us all on a wider global scale. So go on - check out my pick of this year’s most exciting sustainable products at Top Drawer’s Eco Trail. You can follow Oliver’s Trail at the show by picking up an Eco Trail leaflet upon entry.

Don’t forget, Top Drawer also promotes British-made products with its Product GB Trail. More information on both Trails can be found at www.topdrawer.co.uk.
