Front cover analysis. The Masthead- The font has a thick bubbly outline around the text, this makes it stand out from the rest of the magazine. The colours used, stick to the colour scheme throughout the front cover. It also makes it recognisable to the audience. Background- The background is just a plain purple colour which sticks to the colour scheme. The page has a lot on it anyway, so the editor has decided that a busy background is not needed. The main image- This suggests the genre of the music. The artists are well known . They all look happy, well groomed and smartly dressed. The sell lines/cover lines0 These give the audience an idea of what is included in the magazine. The language used suggests the age and type of people the magazine is targeting. Barcode-date/issue/price- this helps sell the magazine in the shops, so they know the price when they scan the barcode. The issue number helps keep the readers organized with which issue they need or haven’t read. The main cover line- ‘you’re a STAR!’, is in a white font on a pink background making it stand out. This suggests the genre , as the colour pink is stereotyped as a girly colour, also the font is quite curly, suggesting its feminine. Target audience.

The colours pink and purple on the front cover suggests that the target audience is aimed at women, as this is the colours stereotyped with females.

The language used is informal, and all font is easy to read. The artists on the front cover are well known and mostly all young in age. Which suggests the target audience may be for the younger/teenage generation.

Top of the pops History.

• Top of the Pops magazine is a monthly publication published by BBC Magazines. It features chart information, star gossip, fashion and beauty advice, quizzes, song lyrics and posters. It is a supplementary magazine for the TV show Top of the Pops.

• The magazine was launched in February 1995, and is famous for giving girl group The Spice Girls their nicknames. Alongside a revamp of the TV show. It was originally marketed as the missing link between Smash Hits and NME, but its format was gradually changed, with less music content and a demographic shift to young girls. It is still in publication despite the cancellation of the TV show.
