Top Ten Attractions in Billings, Montana
Montana is all about the mountains, the prairies and the big skies, so you might be forgiven for
overlooking even the biggest city in the state when looking at the attractions in the state that you would
like to visit. But Billings, Montana's largest settlement, has plenty of things to see and do:
Lake Elmo State Park

Montana's most popular state park, Lake Elmo is used for non-motorised boating, fishing and other
recreational activities. It is a 64 acre site with a scenic lake is visited by over 150,000 visitors each eyar.

This sandstone bluff is pretty much a natural border for the city. There are plenty of easy to moderate
hikes to do here and when you reach the tops there are some outstanding views down over the city.
Pictograph Cave

Located five miles outside of Billings, these three caves are an interesting window onto the areas past.
Taking a pleasant trail to these caves will allow you to view some ancient rock paintings which are well
worth a look.
Moss Mansion

This historic, red-brick house was built in 1903 by Preston B. Moss, a man who moved to Billings from
Paris, Missouri. The Moss family lived in the house until 1984 when the building was saved by the
community. Now visitors can see the original furniture and enjoy the grand period charm.
Western Heritage Center

This regional museum tells the tales of local settlers and the local culture and community by means of a
series of interesting interactive exhibits, re-enactments and events. There are over 16,000 artifacts here
including a great many old photographs.

ZooMontana
This wildlife park covers around 70 acres and houses animals from all over the world. You can see tigers,
wolves, red pandas and more. There is an aviary and a childrens' petting zoo as well as a botanical park.

Yellowstone Art Museum
With a good selection of historic and contemporary works, this museum has a strong regional emphasis
and is the largest contemporary art gallery in Montana. This museum first opened in 1964 in the former
county jail.

Atop the Rims at the airport, this museum has views over the city of Billings and the scenic Yellowstone
River Valley. Enter through a pioneer log cabin to see over 15,000 artifacts detailing aspects of the areas
intriguing history.

Boothill Cemetery

Though the location is somewhat uninspiring and the local authorities need to do something about the sad
state of the site, there is something to be said for paying a brief visit to this old graveyard, which starkly
highlights how much things have changed here. Those interested in pioneer history should definitely
briefly stop by.

One of the many scenic attractions in the vicinity of Billings are the Pryor Mountains on the Crow Indian
